《Reckless Entitlement》Chapter 18: Nick

I am an idiot.
I have to be, I can't get this damn Pink Peony mask to come off. Splashing my face with water, I tried again to get the dried goop off my face. My eyes were still closed, but I could tell there was still a lot on there.
I need help.
"Maya!" I yelled from the bathroom. Hopefully, she had more success washing her mask off than I did.
I heard her quick footsteps rushing towards the bathroom. "Oh my God, Nick what's wrong?" I couldn't see anything, but I could hear her coming inside the bathroom.
"It won't come off," I said in distress. "I've tried rubbing it but it's not coming off."
I heard her giggling. "You poor thing. It's really stuck on there."
"Please, help me," I begged.
"I will," she hummed. "But on one condition."
"I'll do anything." I just want this stupid mask off my face.
"Admit that water is wet."
I groaned loudly. "Maya." I knew that argument would come back to bite me in the ass sooner or later.
"Say it or you can stand here and drip pink mask off your face," she said. "The choice is yours."
The thought of having to wait for it to drip off my face sent chills down my spine, so I bit my tongue and said what she wanted to hear. "Water is wet." It is not.
"There I said it. Can you please help me now?"
"Yes, I will," she said joyfully. I heard her reach over and turn the faucet on. "Bend down."
I crouched down, so to give her more access to my face. She began by wiping the excess water and mask that had dripped into my eyes before going to clean the rest of my face. She had to scrub harder in some places than others, but other than those few spots her touch was very gentle.
"I shouldn't have put it on so thick some places," she said as she finished wiping off the last of it. "It would have been easier for you to take it off."
Opening my eyes, I blinked rapidly. Maya stood a few inches from my face. Her mask was completely gone revealing her clear brown skin. I'd committed every inch of her face to memory while I had applied the mask to her face.

"Thanks for helping me." Neither of us made any attempts to move from our position.
"Happy to help," she said softly.
I don't know who leaned in first, but the next thing I know my lips were on hers and I had my arms around her waist. Her lips were as soft as I had imagined. I ran my fingers against her soft jaw, her round cheeks felt smooth against my finger tips. I could have stayed that way forever, but unfortunately, we had to breathe.
"We have some weird firsts don't we," I said resting my forehead against hers. My arms were still wrapped around her waist. When she put her arms around my neck she dropped the towel that she had been holding.
"Our first kiss is in my bathroom," she said. "That's not very romantic."
"Well, the first time I saw you with your pants off was when you opened your front door for me. It can't be less romantic than that."
She smacked my shoulder lightly. "You said you'd pretend like that never happened."
"Right, Sorry," I smiled. "We're just different, you and I."
"I'll say," she agreed. She ran her fingers over my jaw. "It feels so smooth, I'm impressed."
"I'll have to tell Lavender how great it was."
I gently kissed the side of her neck taking in her fresh fragrance. "I like the way you smell."
"That's funny," she said, "I was going to say the same thing to you."
"Great minds think alike."
"In that case, you're a genius."
I smiled kissing her again. "If you say so."
"Well, now that you've admitted that water is wet. I know that you're a genius for sure," she said against my lips. I scrunched my nose, I did not agree with that at all.
"You are something else," I said amazed.
"Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way?" she asked.
"The best way," I assured her. I kissed her again I couldn't get enough. Maybe I'd never get enough.
She pulled away slightly causing a sound of discontent to leave my lips. "As much as I like my bathroom, I don't think it's the best place to make out."

"Really, I enjoy making out next to a toilet."
She poked my nose. "Hey, I'm the only one that can reply with sarcasm around here."
I smiled kissing her on the cheek. "Sorry. Can I watch one of your silent movies with you?"
"You want to watch a movie with me?" she asked surprised.
"Yes, you sound surprised."
She said, "It's just that normally people think it's weird."
"You watch me fix your car every night and I know you're not interested, this is the least I can do.."
"I watched you because I had ulterior motives," she admitted.
"And what were they?"
"I was looking for the perfect opportunity to kiss you," she admitted proudly. "And I did it."
"I thought I kissed you first..."
She laughed. "Nope, I kissed you." I've never had a girl initiate a first kiss before. There's a first time for everything.
I gave her a peck on the lips before steering her out of the bathroom. If I didn't do it now, we might not ever leave. I sat on the couch and waited for her as she set everything up.
"I don't have any of the Fast and Furious films so you'll have to watch something else."
"I'll bring my set over next time," I said.
Her eyes went wide. "Set--as in all of them?"
"All eight," I grinned. She didn't look excited in the slightest, but she didn't respond. Finding the dvd she was looking for she came and sat next to me on the couch.
"So what movies do you like best?"
She answered her gaze focused on her old laptop screen. "Genre wise, I like pretty much everything. But eighties movies are my favorite."
"Are we watching a movie from the eighties tonight?"
"We are actually." Looking up at me, she asked. "Have you ever seen The Goonies?"
"Will you be disappointed if I say no?" Of course I've heard of it, and I may have seen parts in passing but I don't remember it.
"Just a little," she admitted. "Since you've never seen it. We should watch it with sound first."
"But you don't usually do it that way."
"Well, no, but we can watch it again with the sound off later," she said.
"But I want to watch it the way you do. And see it how you see it."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
She looked at me skeptically. "Okay, we'll listen to the official soundtrack then. You'll get the jist of the story better."
She leaned into my side as she scrolled through her phone. Taking my chances I pinched one of her cheeks. If she punches me she punches me.
"What are you doing?" asked Maya, but she didn't punch me.
Increasing my chances of bodily harm, I squeezed both of them. I said, "I'm admiring how cute you are."
She narrowed her eyes. "By squeezing my face?"
"Mhmm." I gave her a peck on the cheek once I was done. "I've wanted to do that for a long time."
She shook her head. Sighing, she said, "You are so weird."
I shrugged putting my arm around her. Maybe I am but so is she, so we even each other out.
"Now that you're done touching my face," she said. "I can start the movie now."
"Go ahead," I said. But little did she know I was not done touching her face. She started the movie and soundtrack on her phone simultaneously. After setting the laptop on the table, she took her spot back next to me. She rested her head on my shoulder.
A lot like the Grinch, I felt my heart swell in my chest. I've never felt this content before.
"Nick, you have to pay attention," she told me after catching me staring at her.
"Okay, I'm sorry." I turned my attention back on the screen and tried my best to focus on what was happening in the movie.
