《Abandoned ✔️》Chapter 37- just a responsibility

Tick tock!

The slow sound of clock is ticking away the time while I'm waiting for Mrs. Chivalry in her office.

The nurse told me that she needed to make a phone call but she'll be back quickly.

I look around and find pictures of her, a man and a girl who seems to be 10. I smile as I notice more pictures hanging on the wall, behind her desk.

I get up and walk towards the pictures. They seem like a cute and happy family. I wish I had a family too.

I don't mean to go through her stuff but her computer is open and there is a mail which is opened.

I narrow my eyes and sit down on the chair, trying to read the email.

It reads:

Good Evening,

I have good news for you Mrs. Chivalry. I sent some of my investigators around to find some information and they reported back to me with some information.

I have found her location Mrs. Chivalry, get back to me as soon as you get this message.

Sincerely, Mr. Denton.

What?

What is he talking about?

Investigators?

It is none of my business so I shouldn't get nosy and all up in her business. But I am curious about it.

I hear footsteps approaching the room and I quickly walk to the chair and take a seat as Ms. Montgomery walks in with a small smile on her face.

"Venus," she says as she sees me sitting on the chair.

"Hey, Mrs. Chivalry," I smile at her.

"It's alright, call me Olive," she offers and sits down on her desk.

"I don't think I should—" I start but she cuts me off.

"C'mon, I'm not your doctor neither am I your shrink. You're here because you wanted to talk so think of me as your friend," she explains with a smile on her face.

"Yeah but I shouldn't call you by your name," I interject.

"Then I would feel like your shrink and the hospital wouldn't allow me to spend my time with you because I only deal with surgical cases," she says.

"Surgical? You're a surgeon?" I ask and she nods.

"Why, of course."

"I have always been fascinated with the human body, which is why I took anatomy. I think what you're doing is really cool."

"Really? Do you plan on becoming a surgeon?"

I don't respond for a moment.

"I uh- I don't know. I'm interested in singing," I say and she smiles.

"That's lovely. I wish I could sing but then people would leave the room if I start singing," she says.

"My mother used to sing," she replies after taking a pause and the smile vanished from her face.

"Is she-?"

"Passed away? Yeah," she replies, understanding what I meant to ask her.

"I'm so sorry."

"Anyways, what were you here for?"

"I just- I finished my therapy but the tremors didn't completely go away," I explain and she nods.

"Medications?"

"I have been taking them for weeks now. I think it will go away eventually but it's hard sometimes," I say and she nods, understandingly. "I don't know how but I bruise myself so easily these days. It's like anything that brushes against me leaves a bruise."

"Hmm," she wonders. "I could uh- ask the doctor to check your tremors again."

"No, I don't think it's necessary," I reply back. "I just don't know why my joints hurt sometimes."

"Should I call your mother?" She asks.

"I don't think it's necessary, I'm fine."

"I really think you should talk to your mother about this—" she starts but I cut her off.

"No," I interject. "I'm sorry Mrs. Chivalry but I don't want her to be notified about silly little things in my life."

I breath out and she smiles at me.

"If I were your mother, I'd like to know if something is wrong with you," she purses her lips.

"That's the thing, she isn't. She isn't my mother, she has never been one. I'm just a responsibility that my father left her with, nothing more," I breath out slowly.

"I'm sorry," she sincerely apologizes.

"No need, I have learned to live without a mother," I fake a smile while she looks away for a moment.

She sighs deeply and looks at her computer screen and smiles. I see her smile widening when she glances at the mail. She looks at the picture of her family and closes the computer.

"Enough about me, you seem quite happy," I sit up straight and face her.

"Yeah, you could say that I am."

There is a sincere smile on her face, like she just found a missing piece of herself. Like she has found something she's been looking for.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?"

She turns to face me. "Remember I told you about my daughter?" She asks and I nod in return. She's talking about the one she abandoned. "Well, guess what? We found her."

The side of my lip twitches but nothing comes out of my mouth. Suddenly my throat feels really dry and I can't talk.

I'm so happy for her but also scared for her daughter. How would she react?

"That's- that's great," I finally say.

"Indeed," she says and the smile vanished.

"What- what happened?" I ask.

"I don't know how to face her. I don't know what to say. I don't know how to act when I see her," she says.

A small smile appears on my lips. "Tell her about why you had to abandon her. Tell her how much you love her. Tell her how much she means to you. Tell her for how long you've been searching for her. Tell her everything you've wanted to for all these years."

She smiles and nods.

"What would you say?" She asks and I almost choke on my own spit.

"What?"

"What if your biological mother found you? How would you react?"

I think upon that question for a moment.

I don't know how I would react or respond. Maybe it's just being in the moment thing.

"I- I don't know," I reply back and her face falls.

I need to tell her something that will make her feel better. She can't seem this down when she meets her daughter after a long time. She seems like a great doctor and a mother.

"Personally, I would uh- I would just yell at her for abandoning me. I would be so angry with her. But then I would ask why she abandoned me. I would ask her everything I have ever wanted to for all these years," I explain everything she a small smile appears on her face.

"Then?" She asks.

"Then I would ask for space and time to figure things out," I continue.

"Thank you," she whispers and smiles.

"Anytime," I smile back.

I think about my own mother. What if she found me? I don't know how I would react to start with. It's easy to tell someone rather than doing it yourself.

Whoever this girl is, sure is lucky as hell to get Mrs. Chivalry as her mother.

Then, we just talked about how she wanted to become a surgeon ever since a little girl. She told me about her life in London and how she met the love of her life.

Talking to her gives me an insight of my own life. It makes me feel so much better, hearing someone who has been through the same as I did.
