Month Fifteen (March)

The Soldier and I were on a mission in D.C. when we were called back to base. We waited in the old bank vault for someone to tell us why we were called off our target. The bank doors opened and a dozen guards walked in with Secretary Pierce. My heart rate spiked and I looked over to the Soldier who was already calculating the threat.

"Project Insight is up in five days." Pierce told me. I immediately relaxed. I thought my cover had been blown. "I have a little problem that needs fixing though." He continued.

"Let me guess, your problem starts with Nick and ends with Fury." I said.

"Correct," Pierce told me. "And since he's such a high level target, no mistakes can be made. I'll need you two on backup."

"Why not just send us after him?" I asked.

"Because I don't want to waste firepower. You two will only engage if needed. Do I make myself clear?" Pierce asked and put his hands on his hips.

"Yes, Sir." I nodded once in understanding. Pierce looked back at the Winter Soldier before nodding and walking out.

"Go, now."

We were ushered into a truck with other HYDRA agents wearing S.W.A.T. suits. I sat next to the Winter Soldier and stared at the ground as I racked my brain on how to warn Fury. When we got into town, we were let out.

The plan was to get Fury while he was traveling away from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. We knew the route he would take through D.C. and while the rest of the agents moved to the front end of the route to stop Fury there, the Soldier and I waited towards the middle as the third line of offense. The first line was the police, second was the S.W.A.T. agents, third, and last, was us. We stayed out of sight in a parking garage where we could still see the road.

I took out two of my throwing knives and carved a word into one of the handles with the other blade. Once that was done, I looked down the street.

"I'm going to go ahead and watch. I'll be back." I told the Soldier and stood up. He reached out and grabbed my hand, confusion written on his features. "I'll be back." I said again and teleported to the top of the parking garage. I teleported across the tops of the buildings until I saw S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. I watched a black SUV pull out of the building and start on the route a few minutes later. It had to be Fury.

I followed the truck while staying on top of the buildings. Fury soon pulled up to an intersection and stopped at a read light. A cop car pulled up next to him and I knew that was my cue. I teleported the blade, with the handle I scratched 'Goose' on, into Fury's car. His windows were tinted, so I could only hope that he got it. I quickly teleported back to the Winter Soldier before I could see Fury's SUV get boxed in by police cars and fired on.

"They're starting." I told him and looked out onto the street. Soon the sound of gunshots echoed against buildings.

"What did you do?" The Soldier asked after being silent for a long time.

"Nothing." I replied without looking at him. I heard him take a deep breath before reaching for something. I turned to see him take one of his own throwing knives out and slip it into my missing knife's sheath. "Don't." I said and reached for my sleeve to give the knife back. The Soldier pulled my wrist away to stop me.

"But you didn't do anything." He countered sarcastically. It was then that I realized just how cracked the Soldiers walls were. Bucky was showing through. Even if he still couldn't remember, his personality was coming through just a bit. All I needed was one last break in the form of Steve Rogers.

I was confident that my plan was working out. That all these months were worth it. I could get Bucky back without him having to run away to sort through his memories. Everything I did wasn't meaningless.

With new found confidence I stood up with the Soldier, folded my goggles down, and walked into the street. The Soldier had an MK 13 Mod 0 grenade launcher strapped to his back, and grabbed it in his right hand. We came to a stop in the middle of the intersection and waited for Fury's SUV to make it out of the traffic jam. Once we saw the beaten to hell truck break through, the Soldier lifted his weapon and aimed for the SUV.

The SUV continued to speed for us as the Soldiers pulled the trigger. A circular, disk-like grenade shot out of the weapon and skidded under the truck. It attached with a metal clink and then exploded. The back end of the black SUV flew into the air and flipped over in a trail of black smoke. I teleported out of the way of the flipped vehicle while the Soldier causally sidestepped it.

The truck slid to a stop about thirty feet away from me and the Soldier. I quickly glanced over to him to see what he wanted me to do.

'Stay with me', he signed with one hand while the other held the grenade launcher. I nodded and stepped in line next to him. We started for the SUV and saw a blue light flashing inside. When we got to the upside down vehicle, the Soldier ripped the door off and I looked inside.

There was a hole burned through the hood of the truck and into the concrete below. Fury had escaped.

"Rock, paper, scissors on who's going in the hole after him." I said as I stood up and turned to the Soldier. He, as expected, didn't respond. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Doesn't matter, I know where he's going." I told him. "Come on."

It was dark. The sun had set in D.C. We were on the roof of an office building waiting for our target. I was holding a spotting scope while the Winter Soldier lined his shot up next to me.

We had found Fury. He was in Steve Rogers apartment. I knew he was waiting to give Steve the flash drive of information on S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA. Fury was in Steve's apartment alone. He was sitting in a leather chair completely in the dark.

I saw Steve walk up to his building and then leave to walk up the fire escape a few minutes later. Steve knew there was an intruder, so he was sneaking in through his window. I watched Steve cautiously walk in and grab his shield before he saw it was Fury.

"You ready?" I asked the Soldier next to me.

"When you are." He responded.

"Alright, stop being a smart-ass." I sarcastically told him and focused back on Furry. He was up and talking to Steve. "Now." I said and watched as three bullets shot into the apartment, two hitting Fury. "Hit. Now pack up and let's go!" I told the Soldier. He dismantled his rifle and slid the parts into a holder. I grabbed the holder and strapped it over my shoulder. Then we took off.

It wasn't long before I heard the crash of Steve Rogers in pursuit of us. I couldn't teleport. Steve would instantly know it was me. I had to run. We ran across the roof of the office building and for the roof of the building across from it.

"I can't teleport." I told the Soldier as we ran. "You'll have to catch me."

He didn't reply as we kept running. The Soldier was a lot faster because of the super soldier serum, so he was ahead just a bit. He made the jump first and I followed. He rolled to his feet before turning and catching me just as Steve busted through a window and made the leap to our roof.

The Soldier let me stand and pulled me with him to the other side of the roof. I heard Steve grunt and I turned to see his shield coming straight for us. The Winter Soldier dropped my arm and caught the shield... three inches from my face. The slight heart attack I had was overlooked when the Soldier threw the shield back at Steve. He then grabbed onto my waist and jumped off the building.
