《Muddy Green Waters || Draco Malfoy》58 - The Ring

I stared at Harry, struggling to grasp what he was saying.

"What do you mean he's gone?"

Harry sighed, sitting on the end of my hospital bed.

"The Manor was already deserted when I got there."

"But why? Draco wouldn't leave, not without saying goodbye."

"Rosie, he was a Death Eater. They fear arrest after their involvement with Voldemort. The ones who haven't been captured have long since fled the country. Including Drac- Rosie? What are you doing?"

I was climbing out of the bed. I didn't want to be here anymore. I needed to find Draco. This was getting ridiculous. Draco wouldn't leave me, not now that Voldemort is no longer around to stop us being together. Harry didn't know what he was talking about.

"Rosie, stop. You need to rest!" Harry implored as I started gathering my things.

"I need Draco."

"HE'S LEFT YOU, GOD DAMN IT!" Harry's face was red with anger.

Ignoring him, I started rifling through my pockets but I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I started searching the bedside cabinet.

"Where's my ring?"

"What ring?"

"The ring. Draco's ring. He gave it to me to remind me that I've always got him. Harry where is it?" My heart was racing, for some reason I knew everything would be alright if only I could find the ring. I got down on my knees, looking frantically under the bed.

"Rosie," His voice was quiet. "You probably lost it during the battle."

I stood up wringing my fingers through my hair. I felt like everything was falling apart. Nothing made sense to me anymore.

"I need to go," I said, making a decision.

"Rosie, what about your parents? We need to find them and-"

"No, Harry! They are better off as they are - not knowing. I'll find them and give them their memories back when I'm ready. When I've found Draco."

Harry stood up, facing me. He looked at me with grave concern, placing his hands on my shoulders.

"Rosie, please listen to me. Draco has left. He is not coming back. Ever."

I looked furiously back at him. "He loves me. He wouldn't give up on me. I know him, Harry. I know him."

I stepped away from him, grabbing my things and walked out of the room without a backwards glance.

I knew how to get there. I'd been there before. I closed my eyes and thought of those wrought iron gates which stood in front of the looming, dark Manor.

My feet landed on the footpath and I managed to steady myself. Wind and rain billowed around me, whipping my hair over my face.

I gingerly stepped forwards, noticing the gates hung open. My pulse racing, I started the walk up the driveway, remembering the last time I did this.

The Manor looked dark and empty. No lights shone from the windows. I shivered at the sight of it, the idea of stepping back in that place terrified me.

But I needed to do it. I needed to see if Draco was really gone.

The door wasn't locked. It swung open when I touched it. I stepped into the large hall, looking around at the dusty surroundings.

"Hello?" My voice was small and nervy. I cleared my throat and called out again, this time louder.

"HELLO?"

The Hall echoed an empty reply. I slowly stepped further in, taking in my surroundings. I wandered over to a doorway and poked my head inside.

It was the drawing room. The place where Bellatrix had carved deep into my skin in front of Draco. My heart was hammering so hard in my chest and I could feel my skin prickling with sweat. I quickly stepped back out into the Hall, shutting that door firmly behind me.

I decided to check upstairs, if I could find Draco's room, then maybe I could get answers.

I reached the landing and swallowed. There were a lot of doors. I carefully opened them one by one, holding my breath each time I peered into the unknown rooms. They were all empty, bar from a few bits of basic furniture. None of them looked lived in.

And then I came to the door on the far left. As soon as I opened it, I knew this was his room.

It was covered in green. It was just like the room we spent in, on that last day together, before the battle. It didn't seem possible that was only three days ago. It felt more like a life time.

I walked over to the wardrobe. It was empty. All the drawers were empty too. I looked around, exasperated. I didn't want to believe he was gone. I didn't want to believe he would just give up on me like that.

And then I saw something glinting at the corner of my eye. It was on the windowsill. Something silver.

I walked over to it and my breath hitched in the back of my throat.

It was Draco's ring. The ring he had given to me. You've got me, Rosie. Always.

I slowly sank to the floor, clutching the pain in my stomach. It felt like someone had punched a hole right through the middle of it and I struggled to find breath.

He was gone. He really was gone.
