"Tell.. me... about... it," the girl said when she caught up, supporting her sweaty hands on her knees as she leaned over. She strained to stabilize her breathing. The girl knew exactly where Nora had brought her.

Nora gazed into the red-stained eyes of the girl. They no doubt got droplets of sweat in them from running. She felt her tears coming on hot, now that she had removed her hands. The girl took a seat in front of Nora. She tipped herself forward to wipe away Nora's salty tears that broke out of their holding cell.

"She was my best friend," Nora started, not once tearing apart the eye contact she held with the girl, "She was the perfect sister, the perfect human alive." Her voice shaking with each word. She wondered why she was opening up to the girl in front of her.

She went on to tell the girl the whole story about her sister. She swallowed hard after each pause. Yet, she was grateful she could feel emotions again.

"When I read that piece of paper, I prayed it was me instead, but, I read her name, not mine. Later, she died on this goddamn rock from a heart attack my dad told me. A heart attack out of all things!" Nora yelled in frustration, her voice cracking. Unable to hold back the tears that begged to stream down her red cheeks.

"How.. how did that stupid piece of paper know she would die... she died from a heart attack!"

"Hey, hey, hey," the girl whispered, "I'm so sorry," she said as she leaned to hug Nora. She was on her knees now, wrapping her arms around Nora. Nora lifted her arms to gently hug the girl back as she cried into her shoulder.

"My dad found her. I just can't believe she's gone, and now it's my turn. I don't even want to die anymore," Nora admitted.

"I'm here for you," the girl whispered.

The two sat in silence in each others embrace. Nora finally pulled back and adjusted herself so she could lay in the grass, staring at the fluffy clouds in sky. The girl followed suit.

The words from the girl floated through Nora's mind. They calmed her just slightly. The two stared at the sky together in a comfortable stillness. Nora focused on her beating heart. It desperately pumped blood throughout her body to keep her alive. She pondered if it knew its job was soon to be done. She had not felt emotion since the loss of her sister. The thought of it caused a tear to roll down her cheek. The girl next to her reached her hand into Nora's for comfort, and continued to sit in the hushed sound of the wind.

"I think I love running," Nora blurted out of nowhere. She turned her head to face the girl next to her. She realized she never remembered her name. The girl smiled at Nora, squeezing her hand tight at the sudden outburst.

"What is your name? I can't remember. From the incident," Nora said, embarrassed.

"Melanie," she replied, smiling wider this time.

Nora replayed her smile in her mind. She had perfect white teeth that complimented her skin and lips. Her eyes crinkled when her mouthed curved upward, and she had a tiny dimple next to the corner of her full lips. Her hazel eyes glowed, and Nora felt her heart flutter at the thought of Melanie.

As Nora laid with the girl who proved to care about her, she could feel pieces of her heart being glued together. She felt something again, but in that moment, she felt regret. She remembered her father, and instantly hated herself for how she treated him prior to being with Melanie.

Nora rapidly got up from the soft grass, grabbing Melanie's hand into hers and racing toward her home. Toward her father.
