turned to boxing so he could let off steam.

And the matches were even better.

The crowd screamed. Everyone was wild. The cheers were encouraging. He felt all the energy from the crowd radiate onto him. He felt alive. Walking into the ring, the screams for 'Mad Max' were even louder. They loved him. No one knew who was under the bandana that covered his mouth and nose.

His eyes were all they saw.

Maddox gave a once-over to the guy who looked way too confident for his own good. He'd be disappointed once Maddox beat him unconscious.

Circling around the ring for a few seconds, as if testing each other, the opposition's name was introduced.

Dementor.

The reason he was called Dementor? The guy had been in so many fights and received his fair share of punches, his face happened to be demented. And the play on words favored him.

Waiting to see who would make the first move, they simply watched each other until eventually 'Dementor' made the first move.

Rookie mistake. If you know you're better at defense, then defend. Don't play offense.

It was Maddox's favorite trick. Hold back long enough to make the opponent think that Maddox wasn't good at playing offense.

Then let the game sway towards Maddox's favor.

Blocking the punch, Maddox immediately retaliated with a round-house kick towards the opponent's jaw. Not backing down, Maddox punched the guy in the gut, winding him. Watching as the opponent staggered back trying to catch his breath, Maddox punched him in the face as they both fell down with Maddox on top.

Maddox was raging. All he saw was red. So making sure the opponent wouldn't get even a single hit, Maddox punched him repeatedly until the guy was unconscious.

Soon, the M.C's daunting words named Maddox the winner. Breathing heavily with his eyes on the crowd's craziness, he threw his hands up showing his confidence.

The roars of the crowd became louder and the noise was deafening.

Collecting his money from the bets won, Maddox left to go back to his changing room.

It was close to 12am by the time Maddox packed up his stuff and left. The light breeze made him shudder as tiny water droplets dripped from his wet hair.

A shower was exactly what he needed to relax.

The drive back to Madison Heights was about thirty minutes. An excruciating thirty minutes of silence. As Maddox reached town, he parked by one of the local diners to fill his appetite. Upon entering the small place, he noticed how close to no one was there. Grabbing a seat by the windows, he observed the menu as someone eventually hurried their way over for his order.

"What can I get you?" a small voice mumbled.

"Can I just get some fries and a small coke," he asked.

"Of course, we'll get that done pretty quickly considering you're our only customer right now," the voice said letting out a quiet laugh.

Chuckling, he looked up at the waitress and froze.

He let out a frustrated groan. "You?"

Looking up from the small notepad, Evelyn's smile dissipated as she realized who she was talking to.

She paced as she took a step back. "Look there are three of us here right now. If you want your order to be taken from Lexie then I can request for her," her words were rushed.

Shaking his head, he grumbled a "no thanks" before she left to bring his order over.

Finishing his food and drink, he sat back and closed his eyes. It was so quiet, Maddox felt he'd have fallen asleep if it weren't for Evelyn's soft voice cutting through.

Tapping his shoulder lightly, Evelyn spoke.

"Maddox."

Did someone say his name?

"Maddox," the voice tirelessly mumbled.

Sighing as he didn't reply, she flicked his ear causing him to jerk up.

"I was ignoring you," he duly stated.

Flinching, she put some distance between them. "The diner's closing, you need to leave. I close up and I'm leaving right now so you have to as well."

Looking around to see the lights off and a now deserted looking diner, Maddox got up. Grabbing his keys, he walked out the entrance as Evelyn followed before locking the diner's doors. Making his way to his car, he stopped as he noticed Evelyn walking away from the diner grounds.

Frowning, he lightly yelled her name.

Turning around, she was confused. What did he want?

"What?"

"Do you walk home?" he questioned.

Nodding her head, her heartbeat sped up from nervousness.

Staring at her before sighing and shaking his head, he spoke once more. "I'll give you a ride."

Her eyes widened and she immediately shook her head.

"No no no. It's okay. I walk home all the time."

Rolling his eyes, he continued. "Well I'm here right now and I would feel like shit if I didn't give you a ride so get in the damn car."

Shaking her head at his choice of words, she quickly walked over to the passenger side of the vehicle. Leave it to Maddox Lohan to make an innocent offer seem threatening.

The drive was quiet besides the occasional directions needed to get to her house.

Upon reaching, she leaned over him to let the guards know to let them through the gates.

Nodding their heads, they let the car in.

Maddox circled around the gigantic fountain before coming to a stop beside the entrance to the mansion. Evelyn wasn't sure what to do, but she felt it'd be wrong to just leave so she opened her mouth.

"Maddox?"

"Hmm?" he looked at her.

She inhaled sharply as their eyes made contact. He had beautiful eyes, she was entranced.

Biting her lip, her eyes flicked downwards before returning back to his face.

"Even if that fan stops, please don't hurt yourself."

He froze and looked away before his eyes settled back onto her, he spoke. "I could say the same to you."

Confusion. That's what she felt.

"Huh?"

His hand reached out to grab her wrist and extend her arm.

"These cuts couldn't have come from a ghost."

Looking down to see the uneven skin on her wrist and arm, she quickly snatched her arm away from him.

She felt bare under his gaze and that made her uncomfortable.

"I should go," she rushed out as she stumbled out of the car. Leaning down, she thanked him before turning away and entering the house.

Maddox watched her as she walked away before shaking his head and driving off.

What he said the other day at the warehouse nagged at his conscience.

It was cruel and certainly uncalled for. He knew he should apologize, but it's not like he would see her anywhere besides school.

He shook his head before letting a quiet laugh leave his mouth. He knew that was a lie. He'd been bumping into her quite a lot recently. It wouldn't come as a shock if he saw her again soon and next time he would apologize. Because Evelyn Moreau had been tortured since her birth.

For being born.

And Maddox knew she wanted to die for that reason. So he felt it was time someone showed Evelyn she was worth appreciating. He just didn't know it would be him appreciating her.
