Testing Fate

Part 20

*Justin’s POV*

“What?” I asked blinking away the tears the threatened to pour out.

“I’m sorry guys,” he said turning to bury his face in Leigh’s hair.

Selena dropped the cupcake carrier and turned to me with pain, sadness, and fear written all over her face.

“Come here,” I whispered softly opening my arms for her as the tears began to stream out of her eyes.

She crashed herself into me as I held her tight as she cried into my chest.

“He can’t be gone, Justin he can’t. That’s my baby,” she cried.

Suddenly, Selena stopped crying and looked up at my face.

“It’s all their fault. They didn’t take good enough care of him and he got cancer and that’s the reason he had to go into surgery and the reason he bled to death,” she whispered getting louder by the word as her eyes went cold. She turned to James with a hit of anger under her eyes.

“You did this to by son!” she yelled trying to get towards them.

I wrapped my arms around her waist pulling her back towards me as she lunged at them repeatedly.

“What are you talking about?” Leigh said wiping her eyes.

“I was the one who gave him up for adoption!” she screamed making everyone else in the hospital look at us.

“Baby please calm down,” I said trying to sooth her.

“You were Brayden’s birth mother?” she asked in disbelief.

“Oh course I was and you killed my only child! I knew I should have taken him back when I had the chance to,” she said as I pulled her towards another hallway to calm her down.

“Baby look at me,” I said gently grabbing her face and turning it towards me so we locked eyes. “Hey calm down. It’s not their fault. It’s no one’s fault. Just shhh,” I said as the tears began to fall down her face once again.

“He’s gone,” she whispered. “He’s really gone.”

“No, he’s with us. We have a personal angel looking out for us now. He’s always with us. Always in our hearts,” I said holding her tight as I let go of tears of my own I had been fighting off.

“We’re going to get through this Selena. Together. We can do this,” I said kissing her head holding her closer.

It had been a week since Brayden passed and Selena had not gotten any better, and honestly, I don’t blame her.

In a way I feel that it was my fault. If I wouldn’t have left, Brayden would have been our child and would have not gotten cancer therefore he would still be alive.

“Babe, are you ready?” I called up the stairs.

“I’m not going!” she yelled.

I sighed knowing this would happen. I climbed up the stairs two at a time before going into her bedroom.

“Selena, Brayden would have wanted you there. Please don’t do this baby. It will help you cope. I’ll be by your side the whole time,” I said lightly brushing my fingertips up her arm lightly.

*Selena’s POV*

I’ll admit I am a complete and utter wreck. But can you really blame me? My son, who I just met, only a month ago, was not dead. Of course I’m going to be upset. Granted, maybe I was taking it a little hard but he was my son. Anyone who wouldn’t be sad about the situation was heartless in my opinion.

Since the horrible day at the hospital, I personally, hadn’t seen or talked to Leigh or James. However, Justin had and he apologized for my action.

“Baby, we got to go,” Justin soothed bringing me back to my horrible realty.

I nodded and put on my black Louis Vuitton’s and grabbed my clutch before leave the house with Justin.

“I don’t want to do this Jay,” I said looking at him with tear-filled eyes. “Please don’t make me do this,” I said in a small voice.

“It’s okay,” he said placing his hand on my face lightly wiping off my tears with his thumb.

We got out of the car and I held onto Justin’s arm for dear life as the church where the ceremony was being held, began to fill with friends and family members.

I looked up from the aisle and inhaled a sharp shaky breath seeing the coffin lying there.

“Just- I – I can – I can’t do this,” I got out breathing heavily as a waterfall began to fall from my face.

“You can do this,” he said pulling me to the front pew as I cried into his chest.

Soon the ceremony began and people began to stand up and speak all these wonderful things about Brayden. They told stories of the cutest things he would do.

“Would you mind saying a word or two?” Leigh said to us with dead eyes.

Justin nodded and pulled me alongside as we stood behind the podium.

“I’m sure most of you know us,” Justin said looking at the crowd. “But what most of you don’t know, is that Selena and I were Brayden’s birthparents. Thankfully, a month ago Selena job brought us to the children L.A. hospital where we happened to meet one of our biggest fans. Over the course of the month we knew Brayden the three of us had so much fun. Even individually, we were able to spend time with him one-on-one and he was joy. We got really close over the month. I loved him so much and even thought I only got one month with my son, it was the best month ever, and I am so grateful for the time I was able to spend with him. So thank you James and Leigh,” Justin said making everyone cry. “Do you have anything to add?” Justin asked me quietly.

I shook my head and we sat down listening to what the others had to say about my son.
