Testing Fate
Part 14
*Justin’s POV*
“Hey, Sel. It’s me again. I was just calling to see how you are doing. I haven’t seen you in a few days. Anyway, call me back when you get this. Bye,” I said hanging up the phone to Selena’s voice mail once again. I had probably tried to call her 10 times in the last two weeks and she hasn’t picked up once. Which seemed really weird because when I dropped her off after our day with Brayden she seemed perfectly fine.
“Thank you for today,” Selena said and she rolled back and forth on her feet. “It was really nice hanging out with you and Bray. It was like we were a real family.”
“Yeah. We’ll have to do it again. I’m sure Leigh and James need a break every now and then,” I said looking down at her.
She nodded and sighed before looking back at the door. “I better get inside.”
“Yeah, I should get going,” I said as I moved my face closer to her so we were only centimeters apart. I moved my lips slowly into her kissing her, and thank goodness, she kissed me back. I felt her smile against the kiss before pulling away to kiss my cheek.
“Goodnight, Justin,” she said opening her door before walking in and closing the door behind her.
I ran my hand though my hair once again causing it to go all over the place as I thought back to that night. Everything was going so great, I don’t understand what happened.
“Justin you ready man?” Kenny said poking his head into my room.
I shook my head and nodded getting up off the bed.
“You know there are going to be a million paps there right?” he said as we both got into the car.

I nodded and turned to the window not really being in the mood to talk to anyone right now. I had way too much on my mind.
For the last two weeks, instead of waiting around for Selena to call me back, I had been using my time wisely and spending it with my son. James, Leigh and I had all gotten really close and they were actually really cool. If anyone in the world, besides me, got my son, I’m glad it was them. However, since I was spending so much time with Brayden I had a chance to get to see how bad the cancer was first hand.
I went to every appointment with them and watched as my son got poked and picked at all day by doctors and nurses. I watched him try and move his weak body to play and even sitting up to eat a meal was a challenge to him.
Kenny and I hopped out of the car and walked to the hospital entrance, pushing past paparazzi as they yelled at me, flashing their cameras.
“ARE YOU AND SELENA DATING AGAIN?”
“WHY HAVE YOU BEEN SPOTED HANGING OUT WITH THAT LITTLE BOY SO MUCH?”
“IS HE A REPLACEMNT FOR AVALANNA?”
“IS HE THE NEXT CHARITY CASE?”
“HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT SELENA KISSING ANOTHER MAN?”
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned my head in the direction I heard the comment.
“Come on man let’s go,” Kenny said pushing me through the sliding glass door of the hospital.
“No, I have to find out what they guy was talking about,” I said trying to fight Kenny off so I could go back out there and see what that man was talking about. There was no way Selena was seen kissing another man. I mean they had to be making that up to get a reaction out of me. I shook it off and continued to walk down the too familiar hallway to the room where Brayden was staying.

*Selena’s POV*
“How has he been doing?” I asked Leigh, as I leaned up against the wall watching as they put an IV into Brayden and it didn’t even phase him anymore.
“Honestly, not good. He doesn’t complain about the pain but I can see it in his face. The only time he isn’t reminded of the pain is when Justin is with him. They have gotten really. He really loves him,” she said watched her ‘son’.
I opened my mouth to say something, just as the door opened and Justin walked in.
“Hey Bud,” he said causing Bray’s head to pop up and a smile instantly spread across his face. “How you doing today?” he said going to sit next to him on the bed.
Brayden shrugged as he put his head back on the pillow.
Justin sighed getting up and froze when he saw me.
I sent him a small smile before I turned back to Leigh. “I’m going to go grab a drink.”
“Me too,” Justin said quickly following after me as I sighed and hurried down the hallway.
“Selena wait it. Why have you been ignoring me?” he asked once he caught up to me.
“I haven’t,” I lied. “I’ve just been busy okay?”
“Busy kissing other guys?” he asked.
“How did you know about that?” I asked slowly.
“So it’s true?” he said shaking his head with a bitter smile on his lips. “I get it now. It’s cool.”
“Justin, just stop okay. It’s not like we were even anything,” I said placing my hands to cup around my face.
“Yeah, well maybe we could have been if you, I don’t know, picked up the phone when I called. The least you could of done was said you weren’t interested. I was racking my brain for weeks wondering what I had done wrong because everything seemed great when we last talked. A family, remember that?”
I sighed and threw my hand up in the air, frustrated. “That’s the thing Justin. We will never be a family. We were just kidding ourselves. I’m going to sit here and play house with my son during the day and watch him so home and call someone else mommy okay? Maybe you are okay with that, but I’m not. I never will be,” I said, feeling the hot tears roll down my face.
“Is that what all this is about? You are pushing me away so that you don’t have to think about that fact that we don’t have Brayden?” he asked.
“We I wouldn’t have to worry about it at all if you wouldn’t have left!” I yelled at him causing the passerbys to look at us oddly.
“You are never going to get over that are you?!” he yelled. “How many times do I have to apologize? What else do you want me to do?!”
“Nothing! You have done enough! You are the reason he is in there, helpless!”
“That doesn’t even make sense,” he said shaking his head.
“If you wouldn’t have left he would have had never been with them and then he wouldn’t have gotten the cancer! This is all your fault! It will always be your fault!” I yelled before running down the hall going lord knows where.

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image

Second Patriarch: Rise of the Liu Clan
After the death of his father, Liu Zhu must prevail over his older brother in order to become the Liu Clan's second patriarch and bring his family to glory within Yutian Country. In the process Liu Zhu will come across lucky chances, have brushes with death, and slowly expand his world beyond that of the small country he lives in. NOTE: Currently dropped for various reasons. The short version of why I dropped it is because even the shortest form of my outlining resulted in a main plot of at least 300 - 400 chapters and I messed up massively by directly adapting it from my first attempt at this, which was a choose your own adventure on another website. It did not make the jump well at all imo.

Lesser Evil
In a perfect world, an alcoholic, hedonistic, mentally abusive individual like Audry Forge would never coincide with his attempts to stop the extinction of life. But there is no perfect world. There is no other person. Only the lesser of evils. Participant of the Royal Road Writathon challenge - 55k words Author's Note: This is story has been the easiest to write in my time of writing. I thoroughly enjoy it! You may not understand the premise in the first few chapters but need not worry buddy, I've been working ahead. Things will start rolling! I hope you enjoy it. Give me feedback and make sure to share it around! Other Info: Normally I wouldn't put any warnings but this story will be going down a pretty dark path (based on irl experiences) fairly early on. There will not be any overtly sexual content this early but some themes are suggestive. There is profanity. There are references to drugs and alcohol. There are dramatic relationships that I'm trying to base off of real life. There is more of a focus on characters. There will be unpleasant scenes in regards to death, while others will be brushed over. There will also be a fair amount of pop culture references too! Give it a try. You might like my form of storytelling!

Gamer
I am making this story as a revamp, edit, and transformation of the legendary gamer into something that can be better related to. I have done some work on writing, and also put more work into preparing the introductory thoughts. I will have a bare minimum of weekly updates, but there may be more depending on how much time I have. This story will follow Gregory Jeffrey Drake, a young man whose life is partially micromanaged by his parents, and in time will come to be a powerful character in his own story. For now though, the main focus for Gregory is to grow and find his place in this new world he has been dropped into. Gregory gained a new type of class, and must use it if he hopes to stay alive and make the world a better place.
