Testing Fate
Part 7
*Justin’s POV*
“Where do you want to go to lunch?” I asked as Selena handed me the keys to her car.
“I don’t care. Anywhere is fine,” she said climbing into the car in a daze.
I got in and looked at her as I put the key in the ignition. “Are you okay? You’ve been acting kind of funny since we went to see Brayden.”
“Please don’t say his name,” she said quickly.
“What is wrong with you, Sel? I’m not leaving until we talk about this,” I stated.
“Just stop okay. You know how I feel about sick children! It makes me miserable because I have it so good and they don’t. They never know what’s going to happen to them. I just feel bad. I’m letting it all sink in and dealing with it the best way I can. Are you happy now?”
“Sel, I’m sorry. I just hate seeing you like this. It’s like you are in another world. I just want to make you feel better,” I sighed playing with my fingers that were sitting in my lap.
“I know. I’m sorry for snapping like that. Let’s just get my mind off this,” she said placing her hand on top of mine.
“Fancy or simple?” I asked already knowing what she was going to say.
She gave me a look that said you already know that answer. We both burst out laughing as we put on our seat belts and I began to drive to a small café.

“Thank for all this. I had a nice time,” Selena said as she wiped her mouth with the napkin before setting it next to her empty plate.
“Me too,” I said with a smile. “Thank you for letting me go to the hospital with you. We should do it again sometime. Maybe Brayden’s parents will call or something.”

“I thought you said you would leave me alone if I went on one date with you,” she said narrowing her eyes.
I stared at her in shock before she began to giggle telling me that she was kidding.
“Sel, can I ask you something? You have to promise you won’t get mad though.”
She nodded signaling for me to ask my question.
“Where is the baby?” I asked slowly afraid that she would get mad.
She sighed and turned her face a little. “I don’t have him.”
“Did you lose it?”
“No,” she stated point blank.
“Then what did you do?” I asked not wanting to say what I thought she did.
*Selena’s POV*
I swallowed hard, trying to weigh my options. I could tell Justin what I guess happened or I could tell him the lie that I had allowed myself to believe for so long.
“I got rid of him,” I said looking down at my lap.
I honestly have no idea why I decided to lie but I hadn’t had time to look into what I assumed. For all I know, what I think is not even close to what is really going on. Then I would have gotten his hopes up and it really just wasn’t worth it. Not yet at least. Maybe one day I would tell him, but not today. Not until I knew.
I watched Justin’s blank face as he tried to process this information. “Got rid of him as in…?”
“Exactly what you think.”
In a way, that wasn’t one hundred percent a lie. I just let it open for interpretation. He could think I had an abortion or that I had given it up for adoption.
He nodded and thankfully decided not to push the topic anymore.

“Ready to go?” he asked standing up and pushing in his chair.
We walked outside to see the place surrounded in paps.
“Are you two dating again?!”
“What happened last time?!”
“How long have you two been together?!”
They continued to yell random and somewhat hurtful things until we finally got in the car.
“That was crazy,” I said with a smile trying to lighten the mood a bit as I could tell that Justin was irritated by the paparazzi.
I watched as he breathed in long rugged breathes but nothing seemed to be settling him.
I reached over to his hand and I could feel him relax under my touch right away. “Jay, it’s okay. They didn’t hurt me. It’s fine, calm down.”
He took one more long deep breath before opening his eyes and nodding. He muttered a sorry, and then began to drive off.
“Maybe I should have drove,” I laughed as we drove down the road.
He cussed under his breath and began to drive to his house.
“Thank you for all of this,” I said as we pulled into his drive way.
“Thank you for giving me a chance. I’ll call you, okay. Bye Sel,” he said before leaning in to kiss my cheek but before his lips made contact with my cheek I turned my face so his lips brushed against mine.
He pulled back and looked at me for a moment before getting out and walking back inside to his house.
