《No Happy Endings? (COMPLETED)》XVII: Meet My Family 2

Claire's POV:
My heart beat fast when Robert stopped his car in front of the big light green house. "You ready?" he asked. I gulped and breath out. " I guess so" I said and gave a little smile back to him. "Everything will be fine; they will like you" he cheered me and helped me out of his car.
We walked in front of their door and Robert knocked. Soon a tall brown haired woman came open the door and smiled for us. "And here he's, my handsome son" she sang out and hugged tightly her son. "And then his beautiful girlfriend. Claire, right?" she asked and I nodded back just before she grabbed me around her arms.
"Welcome to Clinton's family, honey" she greeted and smiled before she let go of me. "I'm Laura" I nodded. "Thank you and nice to meet you" I smiled. Wow, people around here are so open with strangers, I though.
She let us in and soon there was a time to another big hug from Robert's father, Matt. "Is that your girlfriend?" he asked for his son before he shared a hug with me. "Yes dad, yes she is" he chuckled and looked me when I was having a hard time because how hard his dad was hugging me.
"Welcome, Claire" he greeted too and again a warm hug. "Please, come to table. I made a spicy meat pot. It's our Robert's favorite or at least it was when he still lived at home" she laughed and made me smile too. We sat on the table and started take food.
"Are you good cooker, Claire?" Laura asked when I was taking her meat pot to my plate. "I guess so.." I said out and looked Robert shyly. "Yes, she's amazing mom" Robert added and smiled for me. "More amazing than your own mom?" she questioned and we both shook same time our heads. "I don't think so" I giggled softly.

I tasted her food and it was like from heaven or well I didn't actually know what kind of food they served there if anything but I thought that food there would taste something like this. We did small chatting while we were eating and after dinner we moved to their big living room.
"So tell about yourself, Claire. I have heard about you pretty much already from Robert but I would really love to hear more. What do you do for living for example?" Laura asked. "I'm a psychologist" I told smiling and she nodded back. "Sounds great"
Roberts parents seemed to accept me as I was. They asked a lot of questions for me but I didn't feel uncomfortable of those. I answered them. I saw how Robert looked at me few times when I talked. He seemed proud of my great speaking skills.
"So have you thought about yet that when you will take things to next level?" a question came to her mouth and made me nervous a bit. Thankfully Robert saved me by answering that we wanted move slow and we didn't feel hurry to get married.
His answer made his mom look a bit disappointed but what he had just told was true. We wanted move slow and get know each other completely.
Time flew fast and soon the clock was already showing 9PM and we were ready to leave. "It was nice to meet you, Claire" Matt smiled and we shook hands before we moved to the door. "It was nice to meet you too, Laura and Matt" I smiled back.
"You're always welcome here. You're part of the family now" Laura hugged and whispered to me still just before Robert opened the door and we made our way to the car.

"It went great, they love you already" he kissed my cheek before he started the car. "Yes, you have lovely parents" I mumbled. He nodded and drove to the road. "I know, but do you know who's even more lovely?" he asked and moved his hand on mine. "You"
That little, simple word made my heart melt in seconds. "I love you" I whispered and I would have wanted to kiss him but I decided save it from later because he had to focus on traffic right now. "I know and I love you too, Claire" he said back

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.
