《The Retribution of the Ice Cold Maiden》13-Do you really not know?

"Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha....!!!!" Soul kept laughing, despite hearing about Selena's failing grades about 5 minutes ago.
"To think... The Ice Cold Beauty is as dumb as a donkey...!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha...!!" Soul's laughter made Selena felt depressed and annoyed.
This was her greatest shame. When she first started studying, her grades were average at the least. But two years ago, she failed in one subject in the mock-exams. As time went on, the failing subjects increased until she failed every subject out there. It seems being clever and quick-witted could not help her academic skills. However, the results of the mock-exam were kept private and were only known to students. Even the examiners didn't know whose papers they were checking in order to avoid favoritism. So she had escaped embarrassment for the time being. But when the true Aristocrat exam comes, everyone will know by then about Selena's awful academics.
Unlike Earth, for some reason, the Examination Hall does not send over the checked papers. So Selena had no way of knowing what she did wrong.
"Ha Ha Ha...!!" *Swoop* The Laughter abruptly stopped as Selena couldn't take it anymore and wore the ring given by the church which subdued Soul.
"M-My lady...?" The maid called out as Selena didn't respond for over a minute in the real world. Hearing her maid's voice, Selena snapped back to reality and replied with a calm expression as if she was not mocked harshly just now.
"Un... Invite teacher Walker in." Selena replied to the maid calmly.
"Yes..." The maid replied.
A couple of minutes later, a middle-aged woman walked inside Selena's room. She had wrinkles starting to form on her face and had a stern look. She also wore round Glasses and had an upright demeanor, as if she was military trained. She carried a bag with her that was filled with books.
"Lady Selena..." Teacher Walker greeted Selena without bowing. Even though Selena was an Aristocrat, Teachers were considered their beneficiaries, hence it is the student who bows down, irrespective of their position.
"Student Selena greets Teacher." Selena bowed and greeted her.
"Hm..." Teacher walker nodded in response before taking her seat.
"I hope that Lady Selena will pay good attention today, The Aristocratic Exam is after two months. I am pretty sure if you work enough, you may even pass in more than half of subjects... at least."
"Yes..." Selena replied bitterly as she took her seat too. Her Teacher, Claire Walker, has been teaching Selena since she first started learning. She felt awful to see her teacher's efforts wasted. Claire Walker was an Elite hired by her father, which meant that she taught every subject to her. From ranging to Academic subjects to proper manners of an aristocrat lady. She hadn't reported her failures to her Father because she worried that her Teacher might be held responsible for it and it would affect her Teacher's Career in the long run.
An hour passed painfully slowly...
Selena's brain hurt as she failed to grasp the Arithmetic Equation in front of her. Despite her teacher explaining it to her two times, she still failed to grasp it. She suddenly felt like going to the person who created Math and strangle him to death.
"Sigh... Never mind. Let's skip Arithmetic for today and concentrate on History. All you have to do is remember the major facts. I hope you will fare better with a memory-related subject." Teacher Walker rubbed her temples in frustration as she finally gave in.

"Ugh... Yes." Selena relented as well. She washed her face in the basin to calm down before returning to her chair.
"Let's start with the establishment of our Kingdom of Evergreen..." Teacher Walker stood up and paced around as she taught Selena the history of the Evergreen kingdom.
Selena's memory is usually sharp, but for some reason, she kept failing in History, Geography and other memory-related tests. After the incident with the bangle, she now suspected that maybe someone was trying to defame her by making her fail some of the subjects. She decided to check out the Examination Hall after the lessons. After all, she could understand failing in Math or even Grammar, but she doubted the results of the other tests.
But this puzzled her more, to avoid favoritism, they would give random numbers to students in the form of a token. They would write the token number on their exam sheets and when the results were out, they would know which one is theirs by checking the token number. So, how did someone manage to break that system? Is the one who was trying to defame her, actually in a very high position? But then, why would such a person target Selena?
"Hey, what happened?! Who's this woman? When did she enter? Is she a teleporter? Then tell her to teleport to hell...!!" the annoying voice of Soul suddenly clamored inside Selena's head.
"What? How?!" Selena was stunned. She instinctively looked down and saw that she was not wearing the ring from the church.
"But, when...?" Selena pondered, then suddenly it struck her, she turned her head to the basin and the ring was kept beside it. It seems she took off the ring while washing her face and forgot to put it back since she was distressed about the Math Equation failure.
"You...!! Did you wear the ring again?!" Soul felt betrayed.
"How could you do this to me?!' Soul cried out as if his Husband asked for a Divorce and took the kids with him.
"Ugh... Shut up...!! I am trying to listen here." Selena snapped at him. She really regretted being careless right now.
"Oh? Oh, that's right. I remember now...!! You suck at studying....!! Ha Ha Ha Ha...!!" Soul laughed out loud.
"That's it...!!" Selena was already frustrated as it is. Having Soul mock her was not helping her situation. But before she could fetch the ring, something happened.
"Ha Ha Ha H---- Eh? Wait..." Soul suddenly stopped laughing.
"What now?" Selena bellowed. She really had enough of Soul's mood swings.
"If you think you can stop me from getting that ring then I---"
"Did you wrote these answers?" Soul asked, looking at one of the Arithmetic Sheet.
"Eh? Yes... Who else but me?" Selena snarled back at Soul.
"...and is it just me or do Check Marks have a different meaning in this world?" Soul asked a really weird question.
"Soul, what's going on?" Selena was puzzled by Soul's behavior.
"Hmm... Give me a moment. I need to check something out." Soul replied and then went quiet.
"I... Okay." Selena got back to listening to Teacher Walker's lecture.
Five minutes passed without Soul uttering a single word.
"Hey..." Soul's voice suddenly came back.
"What?"
"Ask your Teacher... about Elder Miren's Birthdate." Soul asked from Selena a strange request.
"Elder Miren's Birthdate?" Selena asked. Elder Miren was a Diplomat who died more than 50 years ago. His skills had helped avoided a brutal war with the Mountain Tribes. However, despite all this, his accomplishments take barely 2 lines of a small chapter in the history textbooks.

"Just do it..." Soul said in a serious tone, which rarely occurs.
"Teacher Walker...?" Selena called out with a small doubt in mind.
"Hmm?" Teacher Walker stopped her lecture and looked at Selena. "Do you have a question?"
"Yes... er... When is Elder Miren's Birthday?" Selena asked, acting sheepishly.
"Sigh..." Teacher Walker exhaled in a sad tone, "Didn't we cover this last time? Did you forget about it already?" she asked in an irritated tone.
"I-I am sorry..." Selena put her head down and had a very pitiful guilty expression. Even the devil would feel bad because of it, so what is a teacher?
"Sigh... remember this carefully. Elder Miren was born on the 22nd of the Tenth month during the reign of King Avlon the third." the Teacher replied after seeing Selena's pitiful face.
"I see, then ---"
"OH HELLL NOOOOO...!!!" Suddenly, Soul screamed inside Selena's head. It was so loud that Selena's brain almost imploded.
"What?! What the hell is wrong with you...?!" Selena snapped at Soul after settling herself down from that sudden outburst.
"What's wrong with me?! What's wrong with you?!" Soul asked in an angry tone.
"Did you lose your god damn mind? Oh wait, you lost everything but your mind." Selena blurted out in anger.
"You...!! Do you even realize the freaking mess you are in?" Soul replied.
"What?"
"That Teacher...!! She gave you the wrong answer...!!"
"Eh?"
***
In the room, Teacher Walker continued her lecture after answering Selena's question.
She kept peeking at Selena from time to time. She was acting weird today. But she thought it was because of what happened with Grant that Selena had a change in her behavior. Since the whole country knew about it, of course, she would too. But it seems the weirdness started after she washed her face. Selena was showing random expressions which led the teacher to believe that Selena wasn't paying attention. This annoyed her a bit but before she could reprimand Selena, she asked her the question about Elder Miren.
'Thud Thok...!!' Teacher Walker heart jumped in fright at that question. 'Why did she ask me that question?' She stared at Selena to see any signs of it. But the latter only looked at her with a pitiful face. This calmed Teacher Walker greatly and then she said,
"Sigh... remember this carefully. Elder Miren was born on the 22nd of the Tenth month during the reign of King Avlon the third." Teacher Walker answered after thinking about for a second.
She stared at Selena after answering the question to find a reaction. But Selena only contemplated the answer for a second before concentrating to hear the rest of her lecture.
Seeing that, Teacher Walker calmed down and continued her lecture, but still peeked at Selena from time to time.
Suddenly, Selena seemed to lose her balance for a second but calmed down immediately. Teacher Walker attributed it to her breakup and continued the lecture.
After around five minutes...
The lecture continued and Selena kept looking at her listening to her lecture. But something seemed off.
During this time, Selena randomly picked up her Arithmetic paper and checked it once and kept it down before continuing to listen to her lecture.
But her stare now was much more intense. If it could, her stare would have burrowed a hole through her head.
After another five minutes of intense Staring...
"Teacher, may I be excused for a moment." Selena suddenly got up and asked.
"Eh? Um... Sure." Teacher Walker answered. 'If you want to use the bathroom just say so. Why the intense stare? Is going to the bathroom like an intense battle for you? Are you an old man with constipation problems?' she thought as she turned around and kept her book down.
After Selena left, She sat on her designated chair and drank her tea while waiting for Selena to return. Her chair was facing the window and she stared out of it in contemplation.
"Humph... These Aristocrats sure have it easy. I bet this chair I am sitting on cost more than my monthly salary." Teacher Walker harrumphed. She had come from a humble home and became a teacher of her own merit. She graduated when she was 20. Women teachers were rare and high in demand for teaching the Aristocrat daughters. She made good money and hanging around Aristocrats gave her a sense of superiority over her peers. Not that there is anything wrong with bragging about your accomplishments but this made her isolate herself from others. She didn't even realize this problem before she turned 30. By then, her good looks were gone and her haughty and stern nature had set in. Hence, even after trying to set a family, she couldn't find anyone who would like her. She did have a couple of handsome boyfriends from time to time, but they were mostly non-working lazy men who leeched off of her. Meanwhile, her peers were already married and had children. The whole experience made her bitter. She started having costly hobbies to cope with her loneliness. But then, she met a wonderful man. He was handsome, rich and ready to marry her. She only had to do one thing for him. That is-----
WHACK....!!!
Slam...!! Thud...!! A harsh pain assaulted Teacher Walker. She felt a heavy object crashing on her left temple which was so forceful that she fell from her chair harshly on the ground.
"AAARRGHHHH...!!" Teacher Walker cried out as after a minute of dizziness, the pain seeped in extremely fast. She opened her eyes and realized that she was on her knees. There was a never before seen red liquid on the Carpet.
"Bl-Blood...?!" She cried out as she tried to step back but lost her balance and fell on her bottom.
Recognizing the fact that she was in danger, she swiftly looked around to find her assailant, only to see Selena standing behind the chair.
"M-My lady...? My Lady...!! Help me...!! Someone just attacked----" Teacher Walker exclaimed, but before she could finish, Selena walked away from the chair towards her and the following words stopped from her mouth.
Selena looked at Teacher Walker with an icy cold stare. Each step Selena took felt to her as if Death was approaching. In Selena's right hand, was a Fireplace poker which is a metal rod used to stir up the fire in a fireplace. It is usually heavy and well built as its job requires it to withstand heat.
It didn't take Teacher Walker much time to make sense of what happened.
"L-Lady Selena...?" Teacher stared at Selena with a shocked face.
"W-Why...?" she asked as she crawled back but stopped when she felt a wall behind her.
"Why?" Selena repeated the question, but in a tone, which was void of any emotion. As if assaulting the Teacher with a heavy weapon was a daily routine for her. She stared at her Teacher, who she had trusted, for a long time and asked...
"Do you really not know?"
