"No, no, no!" I yelled towards the flat screened TV. "How? How could you beat me five times already?"
"Come on, Lee. I'm just a pro." Nate said cockily.
I tossed one of the pillows on the couch at him. We were currently in his huge living room seated on the floor. We had pillows and blankets at around us and were currently playing Mario Kart.
We started on the project, worked on it gathering information and starting the PowerPoint. But when the food arrived all bets were off.
And the gaming session started.
"I don't like you right now." I told Nate as I took a bite of noodles from my chopsticks.
"You can't be mad at my skills." Nate defended taking a sip of his soda.
I scoffed. "Skill? Wait till I beat your ass." I picked up the controller.
"Talk smack when you win five games in a row." Nate said with his game face on.
The game started and of course I started to lag behind from the start.
Maybe.
What if.
I just.
I grabbed the controller out of Nate's hand and tossed it across the room.
He looked at me eyes wide and completely flabbergasted.
"How could you do that!?" He yelled and hopped onto his feet. "That's not fair!" He whined.
I laughed and focused on winning the game.
"Why is this house so damn big?" He complained picking up the controller.
But before he could make it back, I crossed the finish line at first place.
He gaped at the TV.
"You cheater!" He shouted.
I couldn't control my laughter. He looked like a little kid who just got his favorite toy stolen.
"That's not fair." He pouted.
"No one said we couldn't play dirty." I told him simply taking another bite of my noodles.

He was speechless.
"It's just implied!"
I chuckled at him as he stomped over to his spot and sat down.
I held a chopstick filled of noodle to his mouth.
Nate glared at me, but took the bite.
He could never stay mad.
"I'm still mad." He stated.
I rolled my eyes. Liar.
"Don't hate the player, hate the game." I told him just as his front door opened. In waltz, Kayla.
"Ooo, Chinese." She said plopping down on the couch and grabbing one of the containers.
"Is the home Reno finally done?" I asked her. Nate had texted her to come over when she was done at her house.
"Yes! Finally." She said taking a bite of noodles. "I should have gotten paid for it."
"Agreed." Nate and I said in unison.
"What are you guys doing?" She asked.
"Apparently, cheating at Mario Kart." Nate said grumpily.
"Do you need some water for all that salt?" I teased and he just angrily ate his food.
"Redeem yourself." I tossed the controller back to him.
"You're on." He said selecting a game.
I knew Nate was trying to get my mind off of what I saw earlier and it was working.
But it lingered a bit whenever silence settled in.
I just wanted answers.
I shook my head clear of the thoughts. Not right now.
Focus.
Whoop Nate's butt.
Let me tell you.
It was when you start to play dirty, it continues that way.
I would shove his shoulder. He would block my eyes. I would mess up his controller. He would stand in front of the TV.
At one point Kayla pulled his hair just as he was about to cross the finish line.
But unfortunately at the end he won majority of the games.

"Ha! Even with your cheating, I still won!" He cheered.
Kayla and I rolled our eyes.
"Whatever." I dismissed him. "I'll get you next time."
Nate grinned. "Yeah, okay."
Kayla checked her phone. "Oh it's late. We better get home before our mom's have our heads."
I nodded. I would prefer to keep my head.
We bid goodbye to Nate who promised that he would whoop my butt when we played again.
Yeah okay, sir.
Kayla dropped me home. I should really start driving or at least drive Kayla around sometimes. She always driving everywhere.
Once Kayla drove away, I walked to my front door when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
I was just about to let out a scream when I heard a familiar voice.
"Leah." Jace called out and turned around face him.
"Don't do that!" I smacked his shoulder a few times. It felt like my soul left my body.
"Ow! I'm sorry." He apologized. "I didn't mean to scare you."
I crossed my arms across my chest. "Why are you here?"
"I just wanted to check on you." He said rubbing his hand on the back of his neck.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Check on me?"
"I just wanted to make sure your were okay." He explained.
"You could have just texted me."
He didn't have a counter for what I said and we stood in silence.
"Well if that's all, I'm going inside." I turned to open the front door.
"No wait." He spoke up.
I looked over to him. "What is it, Jace? Are you actually going to explain what I saw in the parking lot? Or are you going to beat around the bush?"
"Can't you trust me?"
That's statement just ignited a fire with me.
"All I have been doing is trusting you!" I raised my voice. "Explain things to me. Tell me. I'm tired of just 'trusting' you."
He looked taken back. "Leah."
"No. Don't 'Leah' me. Who was that girl? What are you planning? Why can't you tell me? What are you hiding?"
He stayed silent.
"You know what, here's some honest for you. Nate confessed his feeling for me. He told me that he liked me."
Shocked was written written all over his face.
But I wasn't done.
"And he kissed me. But I've been so wrapped up in your shit that I can't even focus. Out of respect for our 'relationship' I'm telling you. See honest, the truth."
I didn't let him get a word in.
"Go home, Jace. Find me when your ready to talk." I walked into my house and slammed the front door shut leaving him outside.
My heavy breaths starts to even out.
Realization hit me.
Shit.
That probably wasn't the right time to tell him about Nate.
But I can't keep trusting him with no answers.
I'm pretty sure I screwed everything up.
