Frozen.

I stood frozen in place as the man in front of me smiled wickedly.

"Leah Tate. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." He said peering straight into my eyes. An icy shiver ran down my back. How did he know my name? "I'm Damian, a friend of your boyfriend."

Something within me knew that this guy was far from good and far from Jace's friend.

"Leah!" I heard Jace's voice shout. I looked over my shoulder to see Jace a distance away with a quiet large man blocking his path. His eyes scared, nervous and furious. He tried moving past the man, but couldn't break free. "Get out my fuck way!" He roared.

"You might want to tell your boyfriend to calm down, before he gets hurt." Damian said with amusement in his voice.

I wanted to say something, anything but words were not forming.

"Leah Tate. I've had my eye on you for a while now. Not for me, but for someone." The man leaned in close and to my eye level. He did tower over me. I would say he was an inch or two taller than Jace.

His green eyes felt like they pierce into my soul looking for my deepest and darkest secrets. The air around us was tense, I felt another icy chill run down my body. The feeling was suffocating.

Damian let out a deep chuckle. "Seems like the cat has got your tongue."

Again, no words. I wanted to say something, but what? The words were gone.

"That's okay. I'm sure we will be seeing each other quite often." He said taking a step back. "Felix, let's go." The large man followed suit as Damian turned on his heels.

I heard the sound of footsteps running from behind. A strong arm grabbed and pulled me into a hug. I look up to see hazel eyes filled with worry and regret. "Leah, are you okay?" Jace asked softly.

The only thing I could do was nodded my head. Jace let out a sigh of relief and just as that relief came it left and was replace by rage. Absolute rage.

Jace ripped away and started to follow the path that Damian was taking. "Damian!" Jace called out in pure anger.

Damian turned around and looked at Jace with pure amusement. My feet finally decided to work and I ran after Jace and grabbed his arm right before he faced Damian. I could feel the heat radiating off his body. It was so hard to keep him from moving any closer. Jace was too damn strong, but I needed to stop him before he did anything stupid.

"Jace, don't." Was all I could say.

"Come near her again and I will fucking kill you." Jace said, his voice dripping with venom.

I knew if Jace wanted to he would beat Damian's ass to a pulp, but I was very aware that Damian could do the same especially since he had that large man, Felix by his side.

Damian let out a dark chuckle. "I would love to see you try." His eyes narrowed towards Jace. "Know your place." was the last he said before walking away completely.

Jace started to move forward to go after him, but I still had my grip on him. I used all of my weight to hold him down. I was barely able to keep him.

"Jace." I called out to capture his attention. His eyes were trained on the path that Damian had taken and I swear if Jace could he would light it on a blazing fire. "Jace."

He finally teared his eyes away and look at me. His hard cold eyes soften. "Leah." He breathe out. Jace place his hands onto my shoulders and looked into my eyes searching. "Are you sure you're okay?"

I nodded and have him a small smile to help relieve his worry. "I'm fine." Honestly, I was still shaken up.

How did Damian know me? Biggest question who the hell is Damian? And who is Damian to Jace?

His tense shoulders relaxed slightly and he rested his forehead on my shoulder. "Good." was all he said.

We stood there for a few moments just like that. I focused on Jace's breathing as I noticed it got slower. He was finally calming down. "I'm sorry." He whispered so softly I barely heard it.

He stood up and grabbed my hand. "Let's get you home."

Walking back to his house, I could see that Jace's attention was elsewhere.

What I would give to hear what is going on in his mind right now? What could he possibly be thinking?

We stopped in front of my car. "Can I have your keys?" He asked.

I furrowed my eyebrows, but still oblige.

Keys in hand, Jace unlocked my car and walked to the driver's side. "Get in, I'm taking you home."

"Jace, I can tak-" I started, but the look he gave made me shut my mouth quickly.

I got into the passenger seat without another word. Starting the car, he placed it in drive and drove onto the main road.

We were silent for the car ride. I would glance over to Jace every so often, his grip on the wheel was so tight I was shocked that it didn't break.

I wanted to say something to him. Trust me, I have so many questions to ask, but this was not the right time.

I looked out to see the passing greenery under the dark sky. The moon was glowing brightly in the sky which illuminate the entire area. It was always calming to look at the night sky. It gave sense of peace.

Pulling the car into my driveway, I didn't realize we had reach. I was captivated by the scenery. Jace cut the engine off and slipped out of the driver's seat. I followed his lead.

I walked over to the driver's sided to Jace and he handed me my keys. "Thank you." I told him. It meaning more than just the car ride.

I started to walk to my front door when I heard footsteps following me. I turned around to see Jace right behind me.

"I can make it to my front door without getting hurt, you know."

"I'm sure you can. It doesn't look like anyone is home."

"My mom is working night shift tonight, she won't be home until the morning." I told him.

"Oh." He said. "Then it looks like I'm spending the night.

"What?" I asked incredulously. No freaking way.

"I'm staying the night." Jace said firmly. The look on his face told me not to question him but I did anyways.

"Absolutely not." I argued.

"Leah." He said in a warning tone.

"Jace." I mimicked.

"I just want to make sure you are safe." He looked at me with doe eyes, but behind that was absolute worry.

Damn it, Jace.

I groaned. "Fine." His expression brighten up. "But only until you know I'm safe."

I would be lying if I said I wasn't still a bit shaken from the recent encounter with Damian especially after what he said.

He had his eye on me?

Has he been watching me?

How does he even know me?

What could he possibly want?

I unlocked the front door allowing us to enter. Once inside, I made sure to double lock the door.

"This is gonna be a fun night." I heard Jace say.

Oh joy.

Fun.
