The wee hours of Thursday was upon us more swiftly than I had expected. My wife and I had a very big day ahead of us. I should've been resting, however, it was damn near impossible with all the thoughts racing through my mind. It was almost impossible to get one shred of sleep. It was still dark out and torrential rain encompassed us about almost drowning out my thoughts. Almost. Raindrops thundered against the rooftop coupled with violent winds that whipped in the curtains that had been drawn apart to aid the warm night. The mighty weather seemed to match my qualms though I wouldn't tell her that. At the moment, I sat up my back pressed against padded surface of the otherwise wooden headboard studying nothing in particular. As I'd done several times in the past hour, I glanced down at the form of my sleeping beauty.

Earlier the night before Ada had cocooned herself under the coverlet in a foetal position effectively conditioning her self for sleep. I'd returned from the bathroom to find her fully submerged in a soundless sleep. Her long locs drawn to the right side of her shoulder, leaving the other and her neck to the harsh elements. Though, despite the turbulent weather rampaging around us, she still seemed at rest in her dreams. The notion helped to put me at ease ... at least briefly. She would need a lot of rest considering she would be sleeping for two. I would make sure that she got her daily fix.

Suddenly, the wind picked up forcefully knocking the double doors against the wall, whipping the curtains inwardly this time discharging a crisp cold air. A shiver ran through me. Especially, since I'd gone to bed without a shirt. Trying my best not to wake her, I crept out of bed making my way to the double doors. I closed the door restoring peace .. well at least within these walls.

On my way back to bed, a deafening thunder registered in the air, effectively rousing Ada from sleep. I could sooner her traumatized gasps before I could break the corner. She scanned the room, noting my absence.

"Nicky," The faint sound of her voice reached my ear. God she sounds so helpless ... so terrified that I was desperate to join her again. To calm her woes.

"Shhhh baby, it's alright!" I cooed walking briskly to meet our bed in a few strides. I pulled back the covers drawing her body close to mine in a hug before the realization dawned. She was trembling with fear. "I'm here."

Ada buried her head in the crook of my neck, wrapping an arm around my midriff and intertwining our legs. In what time I'd spent with her, I learnt one of the things that terrified her the most was the roar of thunder. I kissed her forehead rubbing circles into her lower back in a conscious attempt to soothe her. However, try as I might, another core-ripping rumble filled the air causing her to jump out of her skin. Her rapid breathing and panicked whimpers caught my attention even amidst the heavy rain.

"Bella?" I called gently to her, caressing her cheek under my fingertips.

"Mmmm," She replied and I was almost certain that she'd shot her eyes tight. I chuckled despite myself despite the heaviness of her insecurities, I couldn't help but think this one of her cutest qualities.

"You need to get your rest," I began though if the incessant drumming of her heartbeat was anything to go by, it wasn't likely.

"I can't," Ada whispered, as though it wasn't already a problem to hear her, confirming my suspicions.

"Ok, then you leave me know choice." I announced.

"Wha-" She began unable to finish before I rolled her unto her back, settling between her thighs. "Must you find every opportunity to the advantage of getting laid?"

"Baby, making love with you my sworn duty and I intend to keep my promise every chance I get!" I kissed my way down her neck and back up to gazed into her shimmering dark eyes. The sound of her giggle reached me before I glanced at her lips to find my reward: her winning smile. With her finger she guided my chin closer so that my lips met hers in riveting passion. With every kiss, every touch her insecurities fell away as we made love against the stormy dusk.

Later that morning, I woke to find her sound asleep against me failing to stifle the grin that it brought to my lips. Who knew making love was an antidote? Well, I did. The early sun peaked through the curtains casting a light glow against her beautiful brown skin. I found myself in awe of this beautiful life, this beautiful soul beside me more often than not. Surely, she was more than I deserved and yet we seemed to complement each other. We'd grown so unbelievably close that it was impossible to imagine a life without her. I may not be a saint or even prayer that often but I thank God for her every chance I get. At this point, I was well aware that she was a part of me. A piece of the puzzle so many seek out their entire lives and almost always never find. I don't know what I'd done in my life to warrant such a prize. God only knows.

Stealthily, I crawled out from under her glorious body that held me captive mere hours ago, making for the bathroom. After freshening up, I dunned a t-shirt and sweatpants before leaving our room. Krysta was already at the kitchen counter by the time I entered.

"Morning," She smiled, before sipping from her cup, which smelt of mocha.

"Good morning," I beamed, unable to hide what was an incredible start to my day, from my expression. Krysta noticed.

"Well aren't you in a good mood despite last night's weather." She placed her cup on the counter. Her Gazette all but forgotten, as she looked at me expectantly.

"Krys-" I began before she held her hands up in surrender cutting me off.

"I'm just happy that you're happy Nikki. Heck, it's about damn time." Krysta grabbed her cup again pressing it to her lips.

"Krysta!" I nearly scolded her for her language but her words matter more to me than I could say. I made my way around the island to place a kiss on her cheek. "Thank you."

"Now when are my lightly nephews and nieces going to get here already." At her words, I wondered if Ada had slipped and told her, maybe even Tionnè but my alarm soon evaporated when I realized that she was joking.

Ada and I had sworn her best friend to secrecy but not for much longer since we planned to announce the exciting news this evening at the small gathering in celebration Papa. I'd known for weeks that his birthday would be today. It slipped one day when I was giving Ada a massage. Her thoughts had been so far but the admission seemed to sober her up. We'd been planning a secret gathering ever since.

"Krysta," I sighed in exasperation.

"What I'm not getting any younger and quite frankly, neither are you." She announced using the opportunity to turn her interest at an article in the paper.

I shook my head at her bluntness. There was no one to blame but myself. I raised her to speak her mind or at least that's what she picked up compliments of yours truly. I knew better than to go down that path especially since amber lights flashed before my eyes. She had yet to learn of the visit mother paid us earlier in the week and I intend to keep it that way at least until found the right words to say. The topic of our mother always was a delicate matter and especially because my sister had a soft spot where it was concerned. Besides I couldn't well spring in on her at breakfast ... that would just slow down digestion. It wasn't a five minute conservation either, she was bound to have a healthy supply of questions once I'd gotten around to telling her.

No. I would just go about making breakfast. Her sister-in-law would certainly be hungry after the morning we shared. I know I am. Deciding on Tacos. It's been a while since I've had it. I've been doing some research or rather, studying the recipes that are healthier and can be eaten during pregnancy. It's by shear luck that this just happened to be one of my favorites. Just then the landline rang, fortunately Krysta answered it and I was abled to continue with breakfast. I noticed that she beamed at the response from the caller and I couldn't her get a little nosy. Though I knew if my sister had anything to tell me she certainly wouldn't hold back certainly not like I was. Guilt swamped me just as she made her way back to the island gesturing the phone towards me.

"Who is it?" I asked, wanting to sate my curiosity.

"It's Ren." At her admission, I near exhaled aloud. That would've been a mistake. I trust Krysta and didn't want her to think otherwise though I might get overly protective at times.

"What did you want you bum? I'm making breakfast, I have a wife to take care of." I smiled into the device.

"I was looking over my outfit tonight and I was wondering if sexy waitress from Krysta's birthday would be there." I paused my chopping to take the phone into my hand. "Well?"

"It's her best friend's father we're celebrating. What do you think?" I answered vaguely knowing full well that it would serve to rile him.

"There's never a straight answer with you is there Quasimodo?" He yelled into the mouthpiece just as I had the good sense to move the phone away from my ear.

"Serves you right for interrupting a perfectly good morning." I chuckled despite his rants in the background.

"You got to be my wingman man!" Lorenzo pleaded but I knew better than to give into his antics.

"She's better off without you." Lorenzo was my polar opposite. To put in latent terms, he was a womanizer. I wasn't just overprotective about my wife, I also served to guard the things she cared deeply about and Tionnè was no exception. Besides, she kind of grew on me. "I'm not going to subject her to your tricks Ren."

"What kind of best friend are you?" He wined.

"The only one you have," I supplied shortly before he groaned.

"Fine I'll just turn on the charm." I could hear Lorenzo smirked through the phone.

"God help you then, because you're going to need all the charm you've got." I scuffed just as I could feel the smirk disappear from his face. "Goodbye Ren."

"Tionnè?" Krysta asked. I almost forget how perceptive she was, then again it wasn't a secret that my best friend had a thing for Ada's.

"Yip," I said handing her the phone and turning back to breakfast.

"I could've told him that spare you the drama," Krysta chuckled rolling her eyes. She was no stranger to his antics since he was like a brother to her. Besides, he'd gone through a tide of women he could make a sailor blush.

Focusing on breakfast, I was intent on making only the best for my Ada and nothing less. Hopefully, my best was enough to convey how much I've grown to appreciate and cherish her. How much she meant to me. I garnished each plate with love, serving Krysta and kissing her goodbye before I left the kitchen, retracing my steps to my bedroom. By the time I get back in the kitchen she may have already left for school. After all she is an early bird. I entered our room to be met with the sight of my wife resting between the sheets. To this day, I couldn't think of anything more satisfying. One of her chocolate legs ducked out from under the coverlet. As if to defy how gorgeous I already thought she was, Ada subconsciously held the fabric to her breast under her arm. I moved quietly to our bedside, placing the wooden tray on the nightstand before dipping my head to kiss her bare shoulder. When she stirred, I kissed the edge of her shoulder again reluctant to wake her but we had a tight schedule to keep.

Ada groaned burying her in my pillow and I chuckled sitting beside her in the bed rubbing circling into her back. Her eyes finally fluttered open to appraise me. Before she could blink again, I dipped my head to meet her plump lips in a kiss. Her response was to be expected. She recoiled from my kiss making it brief to hide her face from me. Ada wouldn't let me kiss her moments after waking up because she grew self conscious of her morning breathe.

"I love you baby, even with your morning breathe." I professed, grinning though I knew well enough from experience that it would only make things worse.

"That isn't helping Nicky," She said into the pillow, causing me to erupt in a fit of laughter. "It's not funny babe."

She had absolutely no idea how endearing she was. "I made breakfast!"

I stood from my place on the bed, heading in the opposite direction, towards our shared closet. It was in Ada's best interest that I find an outfit for her to wear to the doctor's. Not that she couldn't do it. She would try them on and express her discomfort that it didn't fit the same. Her claims that she would soon outgrow wardrobe seemed ridiculous, at least at the moment. Besides, I'm of the opinion that she would be beautiful at any size but I had the good sense not to tell her that. Finally, I found her a pretty blue denim button down overall that would complement her pale grey long sleeve turtleneck. There wasn't a shred of doubt in my mind that she would wear it well. She might have been ten weeks into the pregnancy but I firmly believe that it would be a long time before her clothes couldn't fit anymore.

Dr. Henrique's secretary called on us, giving rise to my anxiety, and we followed her into the sonogram theatre. She instructed Ada to have a seat in the green adjustable examination chair positioned at the center of the room. After mentioning that Dr. Henriques would be with us shortly she left. Hopefully, that gave me enough time to gather my thoughts because my nerves were in a bundle. Ada did as instructed and I helped her into the chair carefully. At the moment, she seemed to notice my disorientation, taking my hand into hers.

"Hey hey ... think positive. It will be alright. You'll see." It was almost ironic that mere hours ago, I'd been at work trying to dispel her insecurities. How the tables turn.

It was another minute before Dr. Henriques entered the theatre greeting us with her warm smile and bubbling personality.

"Good morning Doves. How are you doing this morning?" She was with us in brisk strides, powering up the monitor and setting everything in place.

"My mouth is a little dry," I answered truthfully. This almost felt like a dream like I was only imagining it.

"I admit I'm a bit nervous," Ada looked to the obstetrician, an anxious smile on her lips.

"Well it will all be over soon." She smiled, glancing down between Ada and myself.

I helped to undo the buckles of Ada's overall before she pulled her sweater to expose her baby bump.

"This gel will feel cool a moment," Dr. Henriques mentioned, preparing Ada for the initial cool-to-touch experience before pressing the transducer against my wife's belly. The room seemed to come alive with sound via the monitor as the doc took her time searching for signs of life in Ada's womb. "There ... we have ... one, two and finally, three heartbeats."
