I woke up with a pounding headache, all the memories flashing back to me instantly, flooding my head. I sat up, holding my head in pain. I looked around the dark room, or so I thought it was a room.
"Hello?" I called out, my voice echoing throughout the large space. When I didn't get a response, I attempted to stand up, only causing me to fall back down in dizziness. It smelled horrible, like a sewer. I covered my nose and mouth with my forearm as I continued to look around. My eyes became adjusted to the dark and I soon realized I was in the middle of penny's lair. I was laying on a mattress I hadn't seen here before.
My heart pounded with excitement and fear as I realized Penny might be here.
"Penny?" I called out trying not to sound too excited. The only response I got was the occasional drops of water that fell onto the floor, adding an eerie vibe to the atmosphere. I tried to stand up once again, and this time I was able to succeed. I walked around the murky atmosphere, my hands in front of me, trying not to bump into anything. I looked up, staring at all the bodies that floated, it made me sick to the stomach. I looked away quickly, trying to ignore that it was there.
I continued to walk through the darkness that didn't seem so dark anymore, my head still pounding. I kept looking around, trying to see if I could spot Penny.
"Fuck!" I yelped as I bumped into something hard. I grabbed my knee in pain, holding onto whatever I had bumped into. It seemed to be some type of furniture. After the pain subsided, I decided to continue walking, trying to find a way out, the smell was too overwhelming. I stumbled into the dark tunnels, sighing in relief as I recognized the maze of concrete. I held onto the wall for support, trying not to get grossed out by the thought of it.
I continued to walk, not stopping at anything. I didn't know why, but I just didn't want to be there all alone. Not if Penny wasn't there. The sound of water splashing echoed through the tunnels.
"Lola" I heard the familiar voice speak. I stopped dead in my tracks, not turning around. I could hear him breathing heavily.
"Where are you going" he said slowly.
"Home" I lied, trying to hold back tears at the mere sound of his voice. I turned around slowly, preparing to face him. My eyes locked onto his amber ones and I felt excitement and sadness rush through me. We stayed like that for a minute or so, several feet apart, just staring at each other.
I bolted towards him, catching him off guard. I felt my body slam against his as I wrapped my arms tightly around him. He stood still, not hugging me back. I looked up at him confused at his dryness.

"Penny?" I asked looking up into his golden eyes. He looked down at me with a blank expression, not saying anything. Suddenly, I felt his large hands scoop me up, flinging me over his shoulder like he always did when he was annoyed or upset with me. I looked up, noticing he was walking back towards the lair.
"Don't leave" he said as he made his way back into the darkness. I relaxed under his grip, happy he had finally decided to speak.
I held tightly onto him as we entered the lair once again. He continued to walk up, passing the mattress. I looked at the back of his head, confused on where he was taking me.
I felt him lower me to the ground, my back turned to him. I turned around slowly, to face him once again. Behind him I could make out some type of trailer, sort of like a small camping home. It had old circus designs, something a clown would use to get ready for shows.
"I'm staying there.. correct?" I asked pointing to the trailer with furrowed eyebrows.
"Correct" he said, his voice deep and raspy.
I nodded understandingly as I made my way towards the door. I looked back at him before stepping in. The inside was messy, really messy. It was old and dusty, like the Neibolt house, and even then I'd prefer to stay in Neibolt. But I knew better now than to go against Penny's wishes so I complied.
"It's nice" I lied as I heard Penny enter the trailer behind me. He didn't say anything, instead he looked towards the mess.
"Safer" he said. My heart jumped at the word. I knew I'd be safer from the outside world if Penny was keeping an eye on me at all times, but would I be safe from Penny?
"I'll fix it up a bit, make it feel like home" I said as I turned to face him. He looked at me before giving me a slight nod and then walking out of the messy trailer. I sighed heavily as I looked at the clutter.
"I'll make it feel like home" I said with an aching heart.
"I have to go back to my apartment" I told Penny as he sat down on his stage. His back was facing me as his shoulders slumped.
"I have to get some of my belongings to you know, survive?" I said sounding a bit angry. I bit my tongue when I realized the tone of my voice. I told myself to stop being so stubborn and snappy. I didn't want to go through a whole fight again.
"No, I'll go" he said. I almost laughed at his offer. He would have no idea what was what but I agreed reluctantly.
"I made a list" I said as I handed him an old piece of paper I was able to find. He looked at me before walking off, not taking the paper. I sighed in frustration but didn't argue against him. I didn't want to fight anymore.

I saw him disappear into the tunnels, and it was hours before I saw him again.
I was finishing up by dusting off anything and everything in the trailer, sneezing my head off as I did. I didn't plan to stay here long, I was going to go back to my apartment when it was safe again.
I sat down in the rusty chair, sighing in exhaustion. I looked up as I heard the trailer door open. I saw Penny walk in, with a bunch of items in his hands. I wondered how he was able to hold all of that. I got up, making my way towards him.
"Oh you did good" I said as I realized he had brought me some pretty useful things. He had multiple clothes, candles, and blankets in his arms. I was surprised to see he was able to match my shoes to one another.
He sat the stuff down on the mattress I was able to move into the trailer earlier that day. I spread a blanket over it, to keep me warm. I folded my clothes, organizing it where ever I could. I lit up the various candles he brought me, he seemed to have taken notice from my apartment before. I loved candles.
The trailer was dimly lit, and it seemed quite cozy now. It began to smell better as the different aromas filled the air due to the candles.
"Do you like it?" I asked as I let my hands slap against my legs. I looked around at the semi clean room, feeling a little less stressed now that the clutter was gone.
"I had to kill like 100 spiders" I said as I looked towards him. He gave me a tight smile.
"Well I'm tired" I said with a big yawn. He blinked at me before stepping out. He was being so cold and distant, the same reason we had gotten into an argument before. I made my way towards the bed, flopping onto it. Even thought I was exhausted, I couldn't sleep. I wanted him to sleep next to me, the way he used to.
I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. I finally sat up, frustrated. I debated on wether to go look for him but I decided against it. I fell back onto the mattress. It wasn't my bed. I wanted my bed, my home, my room. I felt lonely, even with Penny around. Maybe I could run out of here and go back home with mom. If I didn't have penny, there was no point of me being here. Just as I was thinking this my phone began to ring.
I looked down at it and read Rebecas name on the screen. I answered it hurriedly, whispering into the phone.
"Hey" I said trying to sound casual.
"Omg! Omg thank god you're okay! I heard! I heard everything! Where are you? Where are you?!" She asked, gasping over the phone.
"I'm fine, just a bit shaken up" I lied. I was dying internally but was trying to play it cool. I pulled down the blinds on the window slightly, trying to locate Penny. I wanted to make sure he wasn't hearing me. When I didn't see anything, I made my way back to the bed.
"You're staying with me" Rebeca said sternly.
"Where are you? I'm picking you up" she said. I bit my lip, ready to argue against her. I sighed heavily.
"Meet me at the bus stop on Neibolt street" I said, my heart pounding against my chest. She agreed to pick me up, hanging up immediately in order to get into her car.
I knew I was dumb for trying to leave, but Penny wasn't the same anymore and if I couldn't have him, I didn't want be around him because being around him was just distant memories of what we used to be. My heart ached too much and I needed to relieve the pain.
I put my sneakers on, grabbing a random coat. I grabbed one of the candles to light the way but put it down when I realized it would attract too much attention. I slowly made my way out of the trailer, trying not to make too much noise.
I made my way towards the entrance of the tunnel, looking around every 2 seconds, scared penny would see me. I held my phone tightly in my hand, my other hand grabbing my coat anxiously. I continued to walk, and sighed in relief when I reached the tunnel.
I walked through the darkness of the tunnel, praying I wouldn't get lost but my prayers weren't heard. 5 minutes in, I found myself in the middle of a maze, not knowing where to go. I felt like I was going to cry, my only option now was to call for Penny and risk him ripping me apart for trying to escape once again.
I backed up against a wall, hyperventilating. I didn't even notice the smell anymore, I was too scared out of my mind. I looked down at my phone when it began to ring. It was Rebeca calling once again. I muted it. She continued to call and I realized this was the only way out now. I answered it with shaky hands.
"Reb-" I began to say before I heard something I dreaded to hear. A deep growl. I dropped my phone at the sound, scared out of my mind.
I looked forward, my legs shaking.
Deep down the tunnel I saw what I was fearing the most at the moment.
Golden eyes looking directly at me.

The Beauty Of The End
William was abandoned by his family and left with a mother who detests him. He is forced into a life of crime, stealing just to feed his mother and himself. But that changes when he's given an opportunity to turn over a new leaf in a world of magic, war and tragedy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Beauty Of The End takes place in a fantasy medieval world where magic exists in multiple forms. William is a boy abandoned by his family and left with a mother who detests him, and at a young age is forced into crime just to feed the both of them. But one day he is visited by a knight order who tell him he has potential for magic. Listening to their words, he leaves to start a new life and train to become a mage like them. The Beauty Of The End updates every day and I'm hoping to push out 100+ chapters consisting off, at the minimum, five arcs. Sometimes there might be double uploads to make up for a break I might've taken. I have most of the story planned out in my head and am just writing down where I think the story should go. I have planned up to arc 2 and maybe some ideas for 3, but that's about it. Thoughts and criticism are appreciated, there's obviously going to be grammar and maybe spelling mistakes that'll I'll try to spot and fix. I might occasionally post chapters that explain certain parts of the world, e.g. lore, countries, organizations, species, magic etc.

Will he be able to accept the new reality and prove himself by leading this country into a prosperous future? Or will he cease to the pressure of his past and lose everything once more? Disclaimer: This is not a power-fantasy or a 'feel-good' story. If you feel a protagonist should never lack agency (especially in early story) or make compromises because of difficult circumstances, then this fiction is probably not for you. It is a story that delves deep into real world sociological/psychological subjects and explores many topics of gray morality. I wrote it because I like stories that make me think more about the world around us, not to detach myself from reality. Some aspects you can expect based on the tags include:- [Kingdom Building]: political drama, geopolitical/geoeconomic strategy- [Army Building]: massive battles featuring in-depth planning, combined arms, and operational logistics- [Identity Crisis]: someone translated into a whole different world having to rebuild their identity and life aims The story starts off slowly, more like a slice of life than action-adventure, but I guarantee you it will get there. For those who want to skip the slow part, start from Chapter - 35 (Beginning of The End) (The whole Disclaimer section is copied from Aorii as I am too busy writing the complete story.) And yes, just for General Knowledge, James will become OP throughout the story. He is not some legendary guy who will pull out Excalibur & conquer the entire world. Update Schedule - One chapter a day. This novel is also available on Scribble Hub. And again, I humbly thank you for reading it. I hope you stick throughout the journey.
