Y/n = Your Name
L/n = Last Name

"Aughh, shut up"
Y/n reached for the off button on her annoying thrift store clock. Instead she pressed the AM button. Worst mistake ever to make in the morning. It started screeching and buzzing incoherent words which was supposed to be live feedback on a football game. She cussed and banged her fist on the buttons until it shut up.
The sudden sound made it impossible for Y/n to go back to sleep. It shook her right awake. She curled up in the blanket so only her head was sticking out like a turtle. After several minutes of procrastinating she uncurled and stretched her legs. The cold air touched her bare legs causing a shiver to erupt from within.
She scratched her butt and waddled out of bed and grabbed a pair of sweatpants from the floor. Shimmying them on and looking at herself in the mirror. "Hot" Y/n mocked, her thumbs caressed the elastic waist band and stretched it out before it snapped back onto her hips.
The steps creaked as the girl sluggishly made her decent. Once it ended she swerved around the corner into the kitchen and looked into the fridge. Milk, apple juice, creamer, soda. Her hand grabbed whatever was to her liking. After a few minutes of preparing her morning meal she flipped open the dormant laptop on the dining table and opened up a window.
Y/n took a sip from her drink as she scrolled through MySpace. The Laptop made a short sound, notifying that her Skype had three unread messages. It had to be Amanda. She clicked the tab and low and behold Amanda did indeed message her.

The feeling of awkwardness slithered up her spine. It was an uneventful conversation at most. But now Y/n had other things to focus on. A costume.
She slammed the laptop shut and made her way up the steps to her room. The closet directly across from her. She swallowed the lump in her throat. The floor creaked as she switched her weight from leg to leg.
Firmly grasping the knob and turning it, Y/n spared no time rummaging through to the box and searching its components. It was filled to the brim with old clothes. Most didn't fit anymore, others she didn't like or bother to return.
All the clothes she pulled smelled like cheap costumes you'd find at Spirit Halloween. And she didnt feel like going out and wasting money buying something new.
Eventually after sorting through most of the items, the bottom of the box was visible. All but one neatly folded piece of clothing. It was flattened from all the other things piled on top of it. Y/ns hands caressed the material. It felt like a mix of satin, polyester, and cotton when she touched certain parts of it. Lifting it out of the box to get a better look at it, she recognized the stitching and unfolded it to reveal it wasn't a shirt but a dress.
The old dress she wore to one of her dates. The date ended badly, but the dress was still gorgeous. Y/n pondered in her head what costume could work out with this dress.

'witch, demon, evil queen who overthrew the king...'
She placed the room in thought until-
"FUCKING OUCH!" a sharp sensation rung through her foot. Y/n hissed and held in her angry words.
Her eyes scanned the floor for the item that stabbed her heel. Clothes, clothes, more clothes... she kicked around the clothing until a plastic clatter erupted. A headband with long horns skidded across the wood. After picking them up she studied the shape and size of them. One character came to mind. Maleficent.
Y/ns face brightened a bit. She could finally tell people who she was dressed as (as long as they didn't assume). Now the only part she had yet to complete for the costume was the scepter. And with that, go to the store.
After a short grocery trip at the Local Walgreens, she was well prepared for the night.
Of course Y/n took a 6 hour nap in between
Now all she had to do was eat some supper, get dressed, and head out. The clock read 5 PM.
"Might as well call Amanda" she picked up her flip phone and scrolled through her contacts until the name popped up. With the press of a few buttons she heard the other line ringing. It was four rings in until Amanda picked up.
"Hey girlie! I've been messaging you for like four hours on skype, what's up?"
"Sorry was asleep, anyways uhhhh I'm letting you know I'm all ready for tonight" Y/n said with fake peppiness.
"Perfect, just so you know Brandon's gonna be there"
Her face twisted into a grimace.
"Oh of course he has to be there" she laced her tone with hate. Oh how she loathed Brandon. The name made her gag.
Y/n and Brandon didn't have the best history. For starters he was Amanda's boyfriend. Him and Y/n always got into heated arguments when they were around eachother. Stemming from politics to food, anything was up for debate.
"Would you stop? He's my boyfriend and tonight's the night..."
"What do you mean tonight's the night?"
There was a long pause between them.
"I'm giving him my v card"
Y/n choked on her spit and forgot how to breathe manually for a minute. "Are you fucking crazy?? Him? Of all people!" She bashed her fist against the table as if Amanda was actually infront of her. "Last I checked you don't decide what I do with my body"
"I know that! But maybe you should think about-" "oh shut up Y/n, what do you know about relationships? All the people you've dated ...." As Amanda continued to rant about Y/ns past a loud crack came outside. Y/n slowly lowered the phone from her ear and looked through the window placed above the sink. The lights from inside barely lit parts of the backyard.
She squinted her eyes, trying to point out anything out of the ordinary. Slightly behind the Bush line she saw a glimpse of white. The bushes were about seven feet in height, and the shape of white seemed to be sitting just as high. Her hand lost grasp on the phone and it fell into the sink with a loud bang. "Shit-" she fumbled and grabbed the phone, her friend still on the line .
"Y/n? Are you listening? Y/n!"
"Yes yes I'm here" "good, because if you get into another fight with him-" "You'll sue me bla bla bla, just make sure he stays in his lane"
More silence entrapped them
"Whatever, I'll see you when you get here" Just like that, the line went dead. "I love you too..." she muttered and rolled her eyes.
Her heart stopped when the memory of what she saw behind the bush came back. Y/n spastically looked out the kitchen window, inspecting every element of the backyard. Whatever she saw was long gone.
"Maybe I shouldn't drink too much tonight..." she started up the steps to get dressed in her costume
