Can the next one be a guy?”
Carter gave Sloane an inquisitive look before he popped the french fry he held into his mouth.
“Don’t give me that look. I wanna hunt a guy.”
“I just don’t get why.”
“Do you think I’m up to something? Or rather, that I would be?” She challenged him, not bothering to touch her food until she got what she wanted.
“Of course not. It’s just, you won’t be able to handle a guy by yourself. I’ll have to help you.”
“I know. And I’m fine with that. I just want to know if there’s a different kind of rush to hunting a man than a woman.” She shrugged, envisioning the two of them stalking a man through the woods.
“If you’re absolutely sure you wanna hunt a man, we’ll do it.” He shrugged and went back to his dinner.
“Awesome. So, tomorrow, you need to go get the dude trapped in number seven.” The words flowed with ease and her expression was calm.
He jerked his head up to see that she was nibbling on her piece of shake-n-bake chicken. “How do you know there’s already someone trapped?”
“I checked out the traps yesterday.” The tone she used was nonchalant.
“Yesterday? So, you’ve been cooking up this scheme?” His shock had worn off and he stared at the woman with pride.
“Yeah. Pretty much.”
“My Sloane.” He sat back and just watched her for a minute. “Okay. But you’re gonna go with me.”
“Really? ‘Cuz I thought you’d tell me that I had to stay behind.” Excitement lit the air around her as she perked up.
“You’re the one that wants to hunt down a man. You get to be the one to sweet talk him.”

True to his word, the next morning, he followed her to trap seven. She’d given each trap a number so they’d know which one they talked about when discussing finding new prey.
He stood back and watched her approach the pit, hearing a deep voice feign bravery when she peeked over the edge.
“I told you I’d come back. I’m gonna help you.”
“How? I can’t…move my leg.” He groaned, almost losing his control.
“It’s okay. I can help you.” Sloane was squating now, looking down at the man.
Carter edged forward, ready to reveal himself.
“Even if you can help me get my foot free, how the hell are you going to help me get out of this hole?” The more he spoke, the angrier he got.
“Because I brought someone to help.” Her smile shifted from sweet and innocent to evil as Carter came to stand next to her. “Just relax. You’re gonna be okay. We’ll help you get better.”

Cilen was you typical, run-of-the-mill kinda guy. Well, until his parents passed away when he was 17 forcing him to learn to grow up. Fast. He figured it wouldn't be that bad. He had a house, he had an inheritance, he had friends that kept him company. And at first, it really wasn't anything But sometimes, the loneliness just gets to you. Sometimes, the expectation to not disappoint just gets to you. Sometimes, life just gets to you. And it brought Cilen to his knees, lamenting, cursing, questioning, "why?" "Why did his parents pass away as they did, forcing him to fend for his own?" "Why wasn't he born in a rich household, with a silver spoon in his mouth that catered to his every need?" "Why was every step forwards so difficult, in this accursed society?" He wished that everything would be easy, like inside the worlds of the wuxia novels that he had grown up reading. Special constitution, lucky breaks, fast powerup, get all the chicks and defeat the big evil guy. Simple, easy, satisfying. But life ain't cut out to be that way. The main actors were already set, and there was no changing them. Unless, you moved to a different stage... But this ain't one of your friendly neighborhood transmigrations. It rewards those that are patient, creative and willing to adapt. But perhaps Cilen is able to make use of this opportunity and become something more. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ This story is a personal love letter to all the pieces of fiction that I have read. Its a culmination of the things that made me laugh, cry and smile when I first read them and It has been a personal wish to craft a story that makes me feel the way I did when reading those stories for the first time. For example, Icon's song "Why Why Why" is inspired by the Kpop group Ikon's song "Why Why Why" in my story. Other group names and song titles used in my story are all original. Chloe does chores and stays in her room everyday. She doesn't get to have fun like the other kids. For years she has been adopted, but also brought back. The families only wanted her for slave reasons. Chloe loves to watch the Piston Cup races and watch her favorite racer, Lightning McQueen. Once she hears that he's coming to her orphanage to adopt, she prays that he'll be the one. The one who would be her hero to save her from this prison. Her prayers come true; she's adopted by McQueen. But Mrs Nelson threatened that if Chloe ever came back, she would suffer the consequences. Will Chloe love her new life? Or will she be brought back and spend the rest of her life suffering and rotting in an orphanage?
