《The Third Word》Chapter 90

Gwen
I was feeling dizzy. The last thing I remembered was drinking water that the receptionist offered while I was waiting in school. After that, I feel asleep. My eyes were opening and closing, allowing me to see momentarily what was in front of me. A dark figure. Black clothes.
My eyelids felt heavy. I felt a sharp pain on my left cheek. I smelled like mud.
I was drugged. I need to come back to my senses.
I propped my head on the back of the comfortable seat that I was sitting on. It felt familiar, as if I sat on it everyday.
I groaned and forced open my eyes and looked at the previous dark figure. I could see a guy sitting in front of me but he appeared dark. The whole room or whatever it was, was only lit by light escaping through the little gaps between the curtains. The place didn't smell anything like a basement.
"You're up." He laughed. I recognized that voice. Despite everything he had done, he was laughing.
The moment I opened my mouth to speak, I felt a throbbing pain on my left cheekbone and jaw. I groaned in pain. My hands or feet were not tied, yet it seemed so difficult to move. I lightly touched my cheek. It was swollen.
He raised his hand in the dark, as to hit me, but I felt something cold press against my swollen cheek. It was an ice-pack.
"You hit me." I gritted," And now you're treating me?" I asked in disbelief.
"You fell on your own." He chuckled.
"Stop laughing you sick fuck." I said," Why did you bring me here? Where am I?"
"No one will come find you in your own house if you're missing." He said and turned on the table lamp when I got a view of our hall.
This is my house? No wonder this place...seemed familiar.
I looked at him, his big shadow falling on the adjacent wall. His eyes looked scary. His expressions were so intense that my heart was beating quickly.
"Edwin Miler...what do you want...after all that you've ruined?" I asked locking eyes with him.
"Hmm, I want you dead. Is that fine with you?" He tilted his head to the right and smirked.
"So you want to kill me the same way you killed Ethan?" I asked.
"You're my first, sweetheart." He scoffed.
First?
"You want me to believe that?" I asked.
"You will, after you get punched like this in the gut." He said and in a juncture he punched me on my left ribs. I shouted in pain but he was quick to cover my mouth," That wasn't even one-fourth of my strength."
My tears touched his hand that was on my mouth. I shut my eyes tightly. I didn't want to cry.

"What? You believe me now?" He asked and I slowly shook my head. How could I believe him when he said that he didn't kill Ethan? I saw the ring with my own eyes.
He slapped me hard on my already injured face. More tears fell out, but I didn't make a sound.
"What about now, then?"
"You killed him! YOU did!" I shouted.
He sighed and took a seat in front of me," Do you like getting beaten?"
"Why should I believe you? What have you done to make me believe what you say?" I questioned.
"Nothing. But is my temper all you need to conclude that I can kill?" He asked.
"That's what you're trying to do right now. Why the fuck should I trust you?!" I cried with my head low. I wasn't going to show him my weak side. I wasn't going to show him that he could scare me. I wasn't going to satisfy him but I couldn't hold my tears back any longer. I'd had enough! Enough of that shit! Enough of my life being an absolute fuckery!
"Hey...you know I can still stop if you believe me." He said.
"I'm not going to do what you want me to, you dick." I frowned and continued sobbing,
He stood up again, this time turning away from me. I immediately glanced at the main door which was locked. I couldn't go out but I could lock myself in a my parents' room and use the landline to call Elijah. I slowly got up from the couch while he was still busy sighing. I was initially going to tip-toe, but when I sensed that he was about to turn, I sprinted towards my parents' room and he saw me. He was quick to grasp my wrist and even though I tried to break free, he was too fucking strong.
"Let me go!" I yelled," Help! Help me! He-" I was shouting when he covered my mouth and nose with his large hands. I kicked in the air, trying to escape but it didn't work. That's when my eyes fell on mom's favorite flower vase that was only a arm-length away from me. I bit his hand and he let go of my face. I shouted," Go fuck yourself!" and grabbed the vase and slammed it over his fucking head. The vase broke into little pieces and he fell on the floor.
I ran for my life. literally.
I broke open the door-lock and ran out of the house. I thought it was still bright outside, but it was getting dark.
What do I do? What do I do?!
I looked around me and the first option was to run to my neighbors but when I looked back to check if Edwin was after me, I couldn't see him where he previously was lying.
Shit.
Guessing he was probably going to appear in front of me any second, I couldn't wait for the neighbors to answer their door.

Instead, I ran to the main road and got a Taxi.
"Where do you want to go?" The driver asked me while I was constantly looking out for Edwin.
"Anywhere! Just drive!" I shouted.
"How am I supposed to take you anywhere miss?" The driver sighed so I asked him to take me to my school.
"Could I borrow your phone?" I asked him and he gave it to me. I didn't remember Elijah's number, but hoping that he came looking for me in school and found my phone, I dialed my own number.
Please pick up...
My phone was ringing and it was immediately answered.
"Elijah?!" I shouted.
"Gwen? Where are you right now?! Are you okay?" He asked. He sounded extremely worried.
"I'm in the Taxi. I'm- I'm heading to school. I'm fine." I answered, looking out the window again and again.
"Is he following you?" He asked and I told him no after looking behind.
"I'll head to school. Share your location with me. I'll get to you this time." He said and I nodded to myself.
"Is there a problem?" The driver asked me once I hung up.
"Here's your phone. Thank you." I said instead of answering him and handed him the phone.
I wasn't feeling well because of whatever drug was in the water. I couldn't believe the receptionist was helping Edwin. He had probably dragged me all the way, which was why my shoes and Jeans were muddy. I just wanted to get to Elijah and protect myself somehow.
I relaxed in the seat and rested my head back. In no time, I had fallen asleep.
.
.
.
"Excuse me..." I heard the driver speak and immediately opened my eyes," Are we here?" I asked.
"We're close but...that white car keeps following us." He said, unsure of anything.
I turned my head around to see and almost screamed but held it in. It was Edwin's car. I could see him through the front.
"Step on it!" I shouted.
"I- I think we should stop? I mean, it's dangerous." He said and slowed the car down.
"I understand! But please we have to escape! He's coming for me- You need to help me!" I shouted.
"I'll call the cops." He said and stopped the car on the side.
"No! You can't- Please! No! NO!" I screamed when Edwin's car stopped in front of the Taxi and he got off.
"Lock the doors!" I yelled and locked both the rear doors. I was kicking in my seat and moving away from him as he tried to open the doors.
"Open the fucking door!" Edwin yelled. He then went to the driver's side who was calling 911.
The driver rolled down his window just a little to try talking to Edwin and I must say, that was the biggest mistake he made.
Edwin grabbed the top of the window-glass and pulled the whole glass off in pieces with just his hand.
"I'm going to turn you in!" The driver was infuriated and Edwin took the phone from his hand and smashed it on the road. He unlocked all the doors from the Driver's side and I started shouting," He's going to kill me! Why did you stop?!"
"Kill you?"
"Oh god..." I said as Edwin opened the door and started pulling me out.
"You seriously need to stop!" The driver got off," let her go you bastard." He started pulling Edwin away from me and even managed to get his hands off me. I opened the other door and got out of the car while they both were fighting.
School isn't that far. I can make a run.
I was about to start running when I heard the driver cry in pain. I turned back and saw that the poor driver was squirming on the road with his hand dislocated and Edwin was advancing towards me.
I couldn't make a quick run in that moment and he caught me.
"Gotcha." He whispered in my ear.
"What do you want?!" I shouted and cried and begged until he dragged me mercilessly towards his car and finally pushed me inside. How could I believe that he didn't kill Ethan?
Did you kill Ethan like this?
.
.
.
This time, it was totally different. I was tied up on a wooden chair and it looked like a huge underground garage. The basement was dimly lit in orange and it smelled of petrol.
"No one likes to wake up alone in a place like this. Thought I'd give you company." Edwin spoke as he paced up and down coolly with his hands inside his pockets.
"I hate you." I gritted.
"Say that again? Didn't catch that." He bent low and came closer to my face.
"I said I hate you." I repeated.
"Gwen, in this situation when you're all tied up and one blow of my fists can kill you, you have the audacity to say you hate me? That's the most unpleasant thing I've ever heard, you know? You have any fucking idea how much I..." He frowned and crouched down," I'll say it only once. I didn't kill that low-life idiot."
"I don't trust you." I said.
"Fuck this. You're impossible."
"I'll say I trust you..." I paused and looked up at him," If you tell me why you did that to him."
"How can I give you a reason for something I never did? Don't you understand?!" He yelled.
"Then who killed him?! Who did?!" I yelled back.
"If I tell you, I'll have to kill you." He said and stood up.
"Stop lying! I saw your ring!" I shouted.
"It wasn't mine!" He sighed.

8 136My Girlfriend, the Necromancer
The power of the Orb cleaves the skies and shatters the earth. It heralds the advent of a new era, one where humanity is no longer at the top of the food chain and we must rise to the challenge when faced with our own extinction as a species. I could hardly care less. All I ever wanted was to love my Allie, to grow old and wrinkly by her side as I held her hand before taking my last breath on this green earth. To have our love echo through the ages, an ode to the last great love story on the planet, one that would endure the end of humanity, the breaking of the world, and even defy the dread summons of Death itself. It’s said that when the gods unleash their fury upon mortal kind, they grant their wishes. Well, crap. This is a gritty end of the world survival story with modern fantasy/romance/game-like elements in it. The main focus will be character development while stats and menus are there as a fun vehicle to empower the imagination. This is a work in progress and I deeply appreciate any helpful suggestions, so please don't be shy with input! Currently posting at least one chapter per week.
