This novella was prompted by the Open Novella Contest of 2022. If you don't know what this contest is, you can find all the info on the ONC profile run by Wattpad Ambassadors, but the short explanation is that participants write a novella based on a prompt. I won't be participating in the actual contest, but I'll be following their rules/schedule.

The prompt I chose is: "Was this a game to you?"

Note: the world this story takes place in is inspired by the real world, but it's not based on it. If things don't quite make sense, that's completely intentional.
