《You Saw Right Through Me》Genesis

You watched as he walked back through the door leading to the roof and into building. You remembered what you saw when that device was put on your head.
~Flashback~
"Here they are..." The man examined you closely, making you back away. "Feisty, huh?" He stood up straight and blew a smoke ring at your face. "You're perfect~"
~End Flashback~
Wincing, you held your head and shut your eyes. Your eyes watered as you opened them. "Why...?"
You looked up. "Chiaki, what are you doing?" She was hovering above you, on her back, as if she were lying in the grass while stargazing. She didn't answer and you assumed she fell asleep. You sighed and got up to go back inside.
You peaked inside the room where everyone was sleeping, and saw Kokichi finally sleeping. Quietly, you walked up to his bed and pulled the blanket up to his neck. "I'm hungry..." You walked to the kitchen and grabbed a cookie.
"What're you doing?" You glanced at the door and met eyes with Kazuichi. "Ea'ing a cukie." He sighed. "Man, didn't know you stayed up late." You swallowed. "I do."
"Yes, I can see that."
"Do you need something?"
"Yeah, I'm hungry."
"Oh."
"What did you think I wanted?"
"Food."
"Then why'd you ask?"
"To make sure."
You tossed him a cookie, which he failed to catch, but you sped towards him and caught the cookie in the palm of your hand. "Oh well, you're not the Ultimate Baseball Player or anything." You placed the cookie in his hand and sat at the dining table.
"So... what's your deal?" You furrowed your brow. "What do you mean?" Kazuichi sighed and leaned on the table. "Man, you are so clueless." He walked up to the fridge and reached inside to get a soda.
"You shouldn't be drinking that this late."
"What're you, my mom?"
He opened the can and had a sip. "That purple haired gremlin doesn't give a crap about your past, or your strength, or anything." He told you. "To be honest, I think he's more worried about how you feel about him than anything. You aren't really being too open about it."
Kazuichi put the still opened can back in the fridge. "While being alive with powers is great and all, I don't think it changes how he feels about you. I should know." He pointed to himself. "I'm kind of a love expert."
You looked him up and down. "It doesn't take the Ultimate Psychologist to know you're not." His face dropped as you walked out of the dining room, another cookie in your hand.
"So rude!"
"I'm honest, nothing you can do about it."
"Ugh... you're like Miss Sonia..."
"Gorgeous? Thanks."
"That's not what I meant!"
You shut the door to the dining room and walked to the basement. "Hey, can I have some?" You looked up and saw Chiaki following you from above. "Yeah, sure." Then you remembered that Chiaki can't eat. "Hey! Don't try to fool me!"

The next day, you woke up last and saw that you were the only one left in the room. There was a plate of pancakes on your side table with a little note on the side.
We went on a mission. Don't miss me too much!
Love Kokichi
You pulled the plate closer to you. "Does that child eat pancakes plain?" You lifted one of the pancakes and saw nothing in between. "Oh my goodness..." You picked up the plate and made your way to the dining room.
"Kirumi!" She turned her head. "Ah, Y/N. Is something the matter?" You lifted the plate and her eyes slightly widened. "Y-You like plain pancakes...?" You shook your head. "Do we have maple syrup, or chocolate, or something?"
She looked in the fridge. "No, apologies." You sighed and grabbed your cloak. "No worries. I'll see where I can get some." Then you paused. "Where do you get maple syrup in a freaking apocalypse?"
Kirumi put her finger on her chin. "I believe there was a store Teruteru mentioned when we ran out of eggs." You squinted your eyes. "Things in a store still work? Like fridges and stuff?" She shrugged and continued washing the dishes. "It is north of the factory if you would like to check it out."
You went outside and looked at the factory in the distance. "Is that the one she was talking about?" A gust of wind blew you up onto a roof and you squinted to see passed the factory. "That looks like a supermarket to me."
A vine grew from the ground and a large leaf flattened on top of it to act as a platform for you. The vine underneath disappeared, leaving just the leaf. Before it fell to the ground, you made a strong wind current and you surfed through the sky.
"Whoo!"
Kokichi glanced at the sky as you let the wind blow through your hair. "Wow..." "KOKICHI! PAY ATTENTION!" Kokichi sighed and looked back at the exisals. "Man, this is why you're all single."
You steadied the wind current and made the leaf land on a building. "I have always wanted to do that." You whispered when you stepped off the leaf and sat down. The supermarket wasn't too far now, so you could walk.
You tried standing up, only to fall on your face. "Mmmh..." You stood up on wobbly legs. "Welp, there's no podium to hold onto now." You gripped onto the railing near the edge of the roof and stepped off the building, just as a gust of wind blew you into the air.
"As much as I miss flying, this is fun." You gloated to Chiaki, who just managed to catch up to you. You placed your hands behind your head as a wind current carried your body. "How're they doing over there, by the way?" You asked.
Chiaki tilted her head. "Where?" Just as she asked that, there was an explosion from the distance and you stepped onto a building. "Never mind." You smirked and ran towards the the explosion.

"Hey degenerates!"
The exisal looked up at the roof and you aimed your hand at it. "Don't get frostbite!" The ground underneath them turned to ice and froze them in place. "All yours!" Miu, Kokichi, and Kaito smirked and ran forward as Fuyuhiko and Akane stared in shock.
"Thanks Y/N!" Kokichi yelled to you. You smiled and made a slide out of ice to get to him. "No problem." He gave you a kiss on the cheek as you walked up to one of the exisals. Placing your hand on it, you felt a small vibration coming from the inside.
"Hm?" You hummed, making everyone turn to you. You held your ear to the exisal and heard a quiet breath. "Oh, there's a person in here?" Kokichi raised a brow as you lifted the hatch to reveal a sleeping person with a Monokuma mask.
"Ah... they fainted from shock... possibly." You lifted their mask and saw that it was the girl from the factory. "Man, she looks young!" Kaito pointed out as you lifted the girl from the exisal. You took a sharp breath through your teeth as your legs nearly collapsed from the extra weight you put on them.
"Y/N, hand her here." You gave the girl to Kaito and leaned on the exisal, taking deep breaths. "We should take her back to headquarters." Fuyuhiko stated. "She'll be safe there, and she'll go into the chambers to remember everything."
You nodded and Kokichi lifted you up. "Let's go then!" "Kokichi!" He giggled as you hit his shoulders. "You are NOT bringing me back there with my dry pancakes!"
.
As you ate your pancakes (with maple syrup), the little girl was put into the chamber and played in the virtual world for about an hour.
"Oh Mind Reader~" You looked up from your book and saw Kokichi at the door. "Alright, was it Kaito or Miu." Kokichi pouted. "Miu..." "Alright." You shut your book and made your way to Kazuichi lab. When you opened the door, you saw Miu swearing under her breath with glitter stuck in her hair.
"I'm not going to ask where you got that." You muttered to Kokichi. As you helped Miu get the glitter out of her hair, there was a knock on the door and you saw Kazuichi with the little girl holding his hand.
"Hello! Is she good now?" Kazuichi nodded and gently pushed the girl by the shoulders towards you. "Don't worry. They're friendly." You knelt down so you were eye level with the girl.
"Hi... My name is Y/N. What's yours?" The girl fidgeted with her fingers. "I-I'm Genesis." You smiled. "That's a lovely name. Would you like something to eat?" She nodded as you held out your hand for her hold.
"Alright, I'll ask Kirumi and Teruteru to make food." You led her to the dining room and asked Kirumi and Teruteru to make something for her. "What's your favourite food?" She put her finger on her chin. "Um... I like macarons..."
You smiled. "Alright. Teruteru? Kirumi?" They nodded and started making the macarons as you led the girl to the room you all shared. "Rantaro!" He sat up in bed and saw the little girl. "Oh, hey there! What's up?"
You lifted her tattered sleeve and he nodded. "Oh. Yeah, over here." You took a book from his side table and opened it, with Genesis and Rantaro on either side. "Which one do you like?"
She scanned the pages as you slowly flipped through and used her hand as a bookmark for one of the pages. "That one." She said as she pointed at the outfit. You nodded and folded the corner of the page. "Alright! We'll work on it."
.
.
.
That night, you were with Kirumi and Angie, making Genesis' outfit. "Alright, can you hold your arms out?" You measured her arms and gave all the measurements to Kirumi and Angie, who got to work.
She took your hand and you led her back to the room, where everyone was simply doing their own thing. Shuichi was reading, Himiko was sleeping, Ryoma was tossing a ball in the air, Maki and Kaito were talking, Gonta was playing with an ant, Miu was working on an invention, things like that.
"Come on, you can sleep over here." You brought her to your bunk bed, where you slept on the top. She sat on the bottom bunk as you assured her that nothing would happen if she went to sleep.
"Y-Y/N...?" You tilted your head. "Is something wrong?" She fidgeted with her fingers like before. "Can you sing a lullaby?"
All heads in the room turned to you as your eyes widened. "Y-You want me to sing?" She nodded. "My parents used to." You sighed and sat next to her, pulling the blanket over her body.
"What did your parents sing to you?"
"They just sang anything."
"Alright..."
Unknown to you, everyone was watching and listening intently.
"Ooh, I know this song!" "Then why don't you sing along?"
Kokichi's cheeks dusted with pink as you smiled down at Genesis. Tenko rested her head on her hand. "Degenerates."
Genesis' eyes started getting heavy as she rested her head on your chest, you stroking her hair and the song getting quieter.
You stopped and looked down at Genesis. "Sleep tight." You gently put her on the bed and looked up at everyone. All eyes were on you.
"Why... does this feel like a familiar experience?" You muttered . Then you remembered one of your memories. At your house. A sleepover, it looked like.
"Ah..." You smiled and sat down at the foot of Kokichi's bed. "Alright, I can see that you want me to finish." Kokichi nodded as he leaned on your shoulder. "If you don't make me fall asleep, then I will force you to start again."
"Alright, alright."
You placed your hand on Kokichi's as you finished up the song.
You whispered this last part
Kokichi did actually fall asleep in those few seconds and you gently laid him back on his pillow. "How cute." Shuichi leaned on the railing of his bunk. "I truly do not know how you get Kokichi to act like that."
You chuckled as you stood up. "I'm not sure... but he looks happier when he's like that, so I'm fine either way."

Vee Vales has been kicked out of his home and directed to make his own way in the world. Along with his friend Alforde Armorsoul, Vee travels to the city of Oar's Crest. Once a prosperous and well-to-do city, Oar's Crest has fallen into depression and disrepair. After finding a strange stone that takes up residence in a tattered top hat and introduces itself as Reginald, Vee and Alforde decide to open a dungeon in Oar's Crest to revitalize the city and, more importantly, make some fleurs. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!

Get hit by a truck, die, get reborn, the same old. But what happens when you're reborn as a tree? T.R.E.E.S.E.K.A.I. follows the story of a dryad in a frontier town, watching civilizations get born, thrive, and die on her roots, under her branches. This is more of an ongoing scratchpad of writing experimentation rather than a cohesive narrative so I might do weird things with it from time to time.
