《You Saw Right Through Me》Your Backstory 2

It was the next day, at lunch time. You were waiting by the cafeteria's door for a certain blonde girl.
You saw her walking down the hall, gripping her sleeves, nervously. "Hey Kaede!" You greeted. She nodded in response and you led her inside.
"What do you want?" She looked up at the cafeteria's menu. "It's not like I can afford it anyways. I usually take money from the purple haired brat."
You looked at Kaede. "Well, I can spare some money. Just say what you want and I'll get it for you." You paid for her lunch and handed her the tray. "Our table is over here, come on!"
Dragging her by the arm, you brought her to the table you're normally at. "U-uh, Y/N..." Maki stuttered, nervously.
You waved an arm in reassurance. "She won't do anything, trust me." You sat down and she sat down next to you. "Hey Kokichi." He waved at you, but seemed to be more focused on Kaede, sitting on the opposite side of you.
You gently elbowed her as she was eating, and used your head to signal that she should greet everyone. "H-hey..." She greeted, awkwardly. Everyone waved back. "So..." You began in an attempt to start a conversation. "I saw you playing piano during your free period."
Kaede looked at you. "How creepy are you?" You rolled your eyes.
"Well, maybe you should disconnect the piano from the speaker if you don't want people to hear." The table erupted with laughter. Everyone was speaking together, as if Kaede had been sitting with you all since the first day.
You felt a hand brush up against yours and looked to your left, to see Kokichi nervously eating the food you had bought him. You stood up. "I'm going to quickly go to the bathroom." Once you left, Kaede and Kokichi were left sitting next to each other.
"So... how was.. your day?" Kaede attempted to ask. Kokichi looked down at his lap.
"It was fine. Y/N was helping during class." Kaede nodded and looked at the table she used to sit at. "They seem to do that quite frequently."
Everyone at the table nodded. Kirumi looked at Rantaro. "I saw you with Y/N when school first started. How long have you known them?"
Rantaro thought for a moment. "Well, since we were five. They were at the playground, trying to climb a tree... surprisingly they actually got up."
Tenko's eyes lit up. "When they were five? That's so cool!" Himiko nodded and continued to silently eat her food. She had the lines of the play next to her, which she was trying to read.
"You should try the leading part!" You had urged. "You'll do great!"
Kirumi smiled. "Y/N seemed to have encouraged Himiko to take the leading role in our play." Rantaro nodded. "Sounds like something they'd do. They push people out of their comfort zone, but not so far that they'll fall. Somehow, they manage to do it every time."

Kaede hummed in agreement and rested her head in her hand. "They did the same to me yesterday. They straight out brought me to the shopping mall as if we've known each other for years."
Ryoma tilted his head. "How do they have so much money to spare?" Rantaro chuckled once he realized you hadn't told anyone. "They're the child of the richest person in the city." All heads turned to him. "They.. what?!" Kiibo asked. "I'm surprised they aren't stuck up."
Rantaro looked at his food. "Well, they've faced a lot of... humbling experiences." He muttered, grabbing everyone's attention.
You returned to the table and sat down. "If you want, I can tell you, but I'm not entirely sure what good it'll be." Rantaro pressed his lips together in concern, but you shook your head. Everyone listened intently.
"When I was 10, my mom committed s*****e. I'm not entirely sure why, but my dad didn't tell me. This made my dad super distant from me, and he seems to only care about money." You shut your eyes and gulped. "When I was 12, my school lit on fire, and Rantaro almost died in it. For a while, I wouldn't leave his side. The cause of it... was unknown as well. A few years later, Rantaro went missing. When he came up again, he said he didn't remember anything that happened. And now we're here."
The table was silent. You smiled. "It's all in the past, though. Don't worry about it!" Kokichi leaned on your shoulder, which you took as comforting.
At the end of the day, you saw a certain magenta-haired boy go towards one of the abandoned buildings near the school. "Rantaro.. you can go on ahead."
You followed him to the roof of the building, where he sat at the edge. Your eyes widened and you quickly ran towards him, grabbing his collar as his grip on the edge of the building loosened. "W-what the..." He saw your familiar face. "What.. what are you doing here?"
You sat down next to him and looked down from the building's roof. "That would've been a nasty fall, don'tcha think?" Kaito nodded and looked away from you. You put your arm in front of him and lied down, making him lie down with you.
You pointed to the sky. "You know that constellation right there? That's Sagittarius." You turned to him. "That would be your zodiac sign, right?"
Kaito sat up. "What are you, some stalker?" You shook your head. "It's your phone password." Kaito tilted his head. You giggled and reminded him that you sat behind him. "I notice the little things, you know."
Kaito nodded and brought his knees to his chest. "How'd you know what I was going to do?" Your eyes travelled to the graffiti on the wall. "My mom did the same thing a few years ago."

Kaito looked up from the ground to see you, tracing your fingers over the words graffitied on the roof of the building.
"You know, the stars tend to calm me down." You stated, changing the subject. "The way they seem to light up the night sky, and how they can make different constellations. Kind of like how people seem to light up the world... and together they make a beautiful friendship."
Kaito nodded. "I-I thought you wouldn't want to talk to me because... you know."
You turned to him. "Well, I spoke to Kaede, didn't I? Tell you what, I'm going to invite you to have lunch with us, just like Kaede, alright? Would that.. make you feel a bit better?" Kaito looked at the edge of the building he tried to jump off mere minutes ago. "Sure..."
In your morning classes, Kokichi noticed that Kaede and Kaito weren't picking on him like usual. In the hall, Kokichi ran up to you. "Y/N... did you say something to Kaito and Kaede?"
You smiled and looked back in your locker. "Not at all. Why?" Kokichi shook his head. "N-Nothing."
At lunch time, Kaito and Kaede sat on your right, while Kokichi was sitting on your left. You looked around the table, and picked up your tray. "I'm done. I'll get to class early, alright?"
You got up and put your tray away, and Kaede and Kaito were next to Kokichi. You stayed by the cafeteria's door and watched the event play out.
"Hey Kokichi..." Kaito awkwardly greeted. Kokichi waved and continued eating his food. Kirumi folded her hands in her lap.
"Kokichi, do you think you have any common interests with these two?" Kokichi looked up. "W-well.. I'm not sure... I don't know what they like." You pulled out your phone and typed in Kokichi's number, making his phone ring.
He pulled out his flip phone, and everyone at the table noticed his small Monokuma accessory. "Oh! You like Danganronpa, too?" Kaede asked, excited. Kokichi nodded with a grin on his face. You smiled and left the cafeteria. You got a notification on your phone.
Your in danger.
You scoffed and messaged back.
*You're
You blocked the number and continued walking to class. When you sat down, you heard a rustle from the window. You walked up to it and looked through the glass, only to see another movement in the bush near the window. You shut the open window and close the curtains. You took a shaky breath and took out your phone.
Rantaro, can you please come to class?
Y? Wuts wrong?
I think there's a creep outside.
...
Hold on, I'm coming
You sat at your desk, hands trembling as you heard the window's screen slide open. "Y/N!" The door burst open and Rantaro barged in, his bag flinging behind him, and the others at the table following. "Are you alright?" Shuichi asked you. You nodded and looked at the closed curtains. Hesitantly, you walk over and pull the string to lift it up.
You stumble back as you see the window you had closed mere minutes ago was now open. "You're... you're not walking home alone anymore." Rantaro stated. You nodded as the rest of the class came flooding in, and the others went to their respective classes.
After school, you walked home with Rantaro, who had a protective arm around you. "Avocado man, you're looking really suspicious, right now." You muttered. He let his arm drop. "Fine, but it's kinda expected, isn't it?" You nodded and looked at the ground.
Once you arrived at your house, you waved to Rantaro and went inside. "Good evening, young master." You bowed your head at the maid. "Doesn't Mr. Amami normally come to do homework with you?" You realized that you had probably shut the door in his face. "Shoot, thanks Bella." You opened the door and went outside.
"Sorry for... Rantaro?" You looked around. "Rantaro? Rantaro!" You dropped your backpack on the ground and looked around in panic. "RANTARO!" You called out his name. You felt this urge to be quiet and you took a deep breath. Your eyes travelled around the hedges surrounding your house and saw that there were some branches broken.
You pulled out your phone and slowly began calling the police. "H-hello? Y-yeah, I think there's s-someone at my house.. but I-I don't know them." You bit your lip as the operator spoke to you. "Y-yeah, I live- HEY!" Your phone was grabbed from your hand. And you were pushed into the hedge.
As a man's hand reached for you, you grabbed his wrist and went under his arm, locking his arm behind his back. "How did you get past the guards?" You asked. "Let him go, or your friend gets it." Your eyes widened and you looked up. A woman in all black clothes was holding Rantaro, one arm across Rantaro's torso, and another clamped over his mouth.
You pressed your lips together as you slowly let go of the man you had in an arm lock. "Mm mmph!" Rantaro attempted to protest. You took a deep breath. "N-now let him go." The man you were just holding in an arm lock now held a knife at your neck.
Rantaro struggled against the woman, but then she took a bat. "Rantaro!" You screamed, just a little too late. The wooden bat hit Rantaro's head, making him fall to the floor. "Ranta- mmph!" A cloth was placed over your mouth, and the moment you breathed in, you felt tired.
"No.. Y/N..." Rantaro tried to get up, but immediately fell to the ground. He saw you being carried over the man's shoulder. "No.. Y/N!!"

8 108The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

8 213Directorate: Nationbuilding in Apocalypse
A nation is just a means of survival. Metro Manila fell within 5 months of the first report of cannibalism. Once a hyperurbanized region of 15 million inhabitants, it's been reduced to a dead, greenless shell. Most of the infected had since left to ravage the countryside. The central government was nowhere to be found. Among the survivors who clung to the few gardens and humble plots of arable land left, one of them finds evidence that the slaughter wasn't going to just end with the first wave. Without a nation and a wall of guns, everyone will die. Directorate is an original nationbuilding webnovel that focuses on the gradual rise to power of a select few individuals, and the subsequent unification of the survivors of a devastated Metro Manila. Releases targeted at every 1 to 3 weeks. If there are no chapter updates after 3 weeks, there will be a progress update. Number of releases targeted at a maximum of 100 chapters. Every 10-15 chapters, there will be a 1-month hiatus to let me plan for the next 10-15 chapters. Double releases have a not-insignificant-but-still-small chance of occurring.
