《You Saw Right Through Me》Promise

The monitor showed up above Monokuma and the spinner landed on Kaito. You stared at the floor, unable to process what was happening.
"Well, I'm glad you voted for the right person!" Kaito said. "It was awfully hard to act like Kokichi, though. But he wrote most of his lines." He handed you the script that Kokichi had written.
You flipped through the pages and saw Kokichis familiar handwriting. "So this was what it was." You mumbled. "What do you mean?" You looked up at Kaito.
"I... I would hang out with him sometimes, in his room. This was on his table, but I thought it was a book from the library or something."
Kaito said that Shuichi basically got it on point. "Kokichi told me that he had been planning this for a while. He had said that he wanted to trick us into thinking that he was the mastermind. Kokichi said..."
You covered your mouth. Not in surprise, but in grief. Kaito continued explaining, but you hadn't quite listened.
"Kokichi said that Maki tried to kill him because the mastermind wanted it to happen." Shuichi assumed it was the Flashback Light found on the dining table. "I'm not sure what the Flashback Light was about, but that's its own mystery." Kaito continued. "I asked who the true mastermind was, but he claimed not to know either. But it didn't matter, according to him..."
"He wanted the victim to be unknown, make Monokuma think it was either him or Maki Roll, and his ruling would be invalid because I showed up. And then the killing game would be over." Shuichi looked at Kaito, confused. "How would that end the killing game?"
Kaito nodded. "Well, I asked Kokichi, and he said that Monokuma and the mastermind had their own set of rules they had to follow. It had to be fair. I asked him why he thought that and he said that killing games are meant to be watched. There wouldn't be a point to this game if it wasn't. That's why Monokuma had specific rules, and why he wanted the game to be interesting."
"Wait, but aren't we the only ones left?" Tsumugi asked. Kaito nodded. "That's what I thought too, but after this trial, I'm sure we're being watched. Monokuma couldn't afford to get it wrong, so he relied on Shuichi's detective skills."

"But why did you cooperate?" Maki asked, not facing him. "Because... he reminded me that if I didn't... you'd become the blackened. And he wanted to end the killing game, in the weirdest way possible, but he did want to."
Maki's eyes widened, both in disbelief and in guilt. "He blackmailed you into cooperating by using me?" He shook his head and claimed he was in by "ruin the killing game."
You walked over to him and gently opened his mouth. "That's another reason why, right?" He nodded. "B-But you said you were fine!" Maki said.
"Sorry, that was a lie. But I was fine when I passed the medical exam for my training." Kaito recalled. "I think it's the virus, from the meteorites." Shuichi assumed.
"But.. you hated Kokichi." K1-B0 said. "Why are you acting like he's your partner?" Kaito shook his head. "No, I still hate his guts. But... something he said..."
"Kokichi.. said that?" Maki questioned. "I don't know... it was probably a lie to get me-" "IT WASN'T A LIE!" Everyone turned to you, who wouldn't show their face. "Kokichi... he wasn't lying." You stood up straight, but stared at the ground.
"I knew about Kokichi's plan... not the details of it, but I knew he wasn't the mastermind. He just said that he'd pretend to be the mastermind to end the killing game. I wasn't sure how he was going to do that, but I didn't question him any further... because I trusted him. I assume that he didn't tell me the full details of his plan... because he knew I'd try to talk him out of it, or interfere. Because I would've! Why would I want him to die?!"
You took a deep breath. "He... he told me that he didn't want any of this to go any further... and he was telling the truth. You know how I said everyone has some sort of habit they do every time they lie? His was a side glance. It was easy to figure out because he lied so much. I said that someone might try to kill him to end the killing game, but he assured me that he would be fine... he was lying but I didn't see it at the time, and I-"
You fell to the floor. You couldn't take it. Your knees hurt, and you wanted to go to bed. You buried your face into your hands, your face to the floor. "I-I'm sorry..." You forced out.

You wanted Kokichi. You wanted him to pop out and yell that it was a lie, for him to show you his grin he always did, you wanted him to shine that little ray of light in these dark times.
You felt a hand on your back. It was Kaito. "No... it's fine... I would've vented out like that if any of you said something bad about Maki Roll or Shuichi." You couldn't face anyone. It's not that you were angry, you just couldn't.
You heard coughing and looked up, seeing blood drop to the floor. "Kaito!" You stood up and put your hand on his shoulder. "No..."
"I WON'T LET YOU KILL KAITO!" You turned around and saw Maki wielding a knife in her hands. Everyone agreed. The Monokubs appeared, meaning that the exisals could now be controlled.
"N-no... stop." Kaito forced out.
"No!" Maki yelled. "I've never... killed to protect. I've never been given.. a nickname like Maki Roll before. And... I've never fallen for someone before." Your eyes widened and you turned around, seeing the flood pouring from Maki's eyes.
Kaito said that he wanted to see you all smile before he died. Nobody smiled, but everyone tried their hardest not to cry. Maki, however, was unable to.
You heard the horrifying words that you knew would haunt you for the rest of your life. "IT'S PUNISHMENT TIME!"
Kaito nodded. "You better promise me that you'll end this killing game!"
You turned around and Kaito was already gone. "NO!" You screamed. But it was too late.
Kaito was seated in a classroom, where Monokuma was dressed up as an astronaut. A rocket ship enclosed Kaito, and you expected it to go up, but it turned around and went down, into the earth.
He went through the earth and out on the other side, in space. He coughed up more blood, and eventually, he died from the virus. He fell to the floor of the rocket ship, and the words above it said "execution failed." Then he came right back to everyone, or rather, his body did.
K1-B0 ran in front of everyone to protect them from the debris flying everywhere. But one of the rocks hit his antennae. The rocket ship opened and his body fell out, his clothes covered in blood.
You knew everyone was talking, but you couldn't hear. All you could hear was the muffled voices of each person as you stared at Kaito. He suddenly flickered and changed into all the dead bodies you have seen in the past month or so.
You shut your eyes and walked out of the trial room, your teeth gritted as you tried to hold in everything.
What was this everything? Sadness, anger, frustration, guilt, regret, all of it was held inside you and you just wanted to let it out.
"Where are they going?" Tsumugi wondered.
Everyone had followed you to your room. You left your door slightly open, since you didn't know anyone would follow you. You stood in the middle of your room for a moment.
Suddenly, you collapsed onto your bed and an agonising scream was muffled by your pillow.
You began sobbing into your pillow as you cried. "I'm sorry! I said I would protect you all but I couldn't!!"
Himiko looked at Shuichi. "Who is she talking to?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "I think... she's talking to everyone that's passed." Everyone heard your agonising sobs.
None of them wanted this for you, or for anyone for that matter. After a while, people slowly began leaving until it was only Shuichi and Maki at the door.
"We should give them some space." Shuichi said as Maki nodded, and the two of them walked away.
You were no longer sobbing. You had no energy. You just breathed heavily, facing away from your door as tears continued to stream from your cheeks.
...
"They've been at this for two hours." Maki said, worriedly, as she returned. "Yeah... and they haven't said anything but 'I'm sorry' or 'why did this have to happen.'"
Maki and Shuichi eventually left for good as well.
After 2 and a half hours, you finally stopped crying. You lifted your head from your tear-soaked pillow and looked at the time. "Oh.. it's 9:45."
You got up and reached into your pocket. You pulled out the device that was given to you during the trial and went to the area Maki, Shuichi, You, and Kaito used to train in.

He has no girlfriend he cannot meet up with his friends because there is another Covid-lockdown and getting a side-job is also unsuccessful. Therefore, he has started to write a web novel. “If I cannot be the main character with magical powers and a harem full of cute girls in real life then I will create my own universe and be its protagonist.” Although that has been his first thought, he neither dare to use himself as the main character’s template nor write a harem story. “I am not that desperate!” he muses to himself. Little does he know that he will get more than he asked for when a mighty existence becomes interested in his story and makes it a reality. Hello, this is my first attempt at creating something like a novel. English is also not my native language, so expect some grammar and punctuation issues. I am using Grammarly to help myself in this regard, but in some areas, the free app cannot correct everything. There is currently no fixed schedule, although I believe that two chapters per week should be reasonable. Depending on how much time I have, I can write more.
