《You Saw Right Through Me》Sometimes Betrayal is Unexpected from Both Sides

"Hey! What did you give to Y/N?!" Himiko yelled. "Calm down, lady. They're just blocking out your nonsense." Monokuma assured. "They know a little more than you dimwits, but they're unsure if it's the truth. You have the Ultimate Detective anyways. You should be fine without them."
Himiko scrunched up her face as she looked at you. Your face was still stained with tears and you didn't seem as enthusiastic as other trials. "Fine, but you better not be mind-controlling them or anything!"
Shuichi looked at you, but didn't bother you. He saw how devastated you were throughout this whole thing.
You cared for everyone, even the ones that were a bit strange, and you had shed tears almost everyday in here. He wanted to give you a break. He noticed you fidgeting with Rantaro's necklace, something you do when you're nervous or uncomfortable.
"We'll leave Y/N out of this until we think they have any information that they're sure of, and may be of use to us." Shuichi announced.
"There is evidence pointing to Kokichi being the victim. The clothes in the washroom had signs of Kokichi being wounded."
"So? Why would Kaito kill Kokichi?" Maki argued. "Kaito's clothes were in the hydraulic press. Why would they be in there if he wasn't the one killed?"
"Well, we only saw Kaito's sleeve sticking out." Shuichi recalled. "If it were him, his hand would be included, wouldn't it?" Maki scoffed. "If that's the evidence you're going off of, then you're even dumber than I thought. Kaito doesn't put his arms in his sleeves."
You took out your right earbud. "You're both wrong, actually. Kaito puts his arm in his left sleeve, but not his right."
"I thought you were blocking us out?" Himiko asked. You shook your head. "Just because I'm listening to something, doesn't mean I can't hear you." You looked at Shuichi, then Maki. You put the earbud back in your ear, but only a little so you could still hear the trial.
Maki seems so determined to say Kaito is dead. It could be grief... or something else.
You tried looking at Maki's body language, but she was still as a boulder. Her facial expression was stoic but at the same time, it was rather angry.
"Bring Kokichi out now. We already know who the culprit is." Maki ordered. "Alright, fine. Suspect! That's your cue!" On Monokuma's word, an exisal came out of a room, but it was a bit bigger than the others.
Everyone looked surprised, but then they heard a familiar voice. "Sorry, I probably scared you guys." It was Kaito's voice. "K-Kaito...?" You looked at Maki and back at the exisal.
"Nope! That was a lie!" Kokichi's voice rang through your ears. Thinking they were fooled by Kokichi, everyone's faces dropped.
"I have something for you!" Kokichi sang. He held up a camera as Monokuma grabbed it and connected it to the monitor. You put in the headphones that were given to you and looked at the screen. Everyone watched a video... of Kaito being crushed by the hydraulic press.
The moment you heard the bang of the hydraulic press, you saw Himiko raise her hands to her mouth. You rubbed her back and looked up at the now blank monitor.
You tilted your head as you thought back to the video of Kaito. "If you don't mind, can you please play it again?" The monitor turned on again and the video played once more. Himiko looked away as you watched the video carefully. The cord is uncut, the blood on his arm doesn't line up with the blood on his sleeve, the hydraulic press has a safety function, his hand was balled into a fist so he couldn't have been dead, but if he weren't already dead then why didn't he move out of the way?

You were so silent that others were wondering what happened to you. "Y/N?" K1-B0 dismissed your silence and turned to the exisal. "Well then, I guess we now know who the culprit is. You! The only one who could've filmed this video is the culprit, and we just got this video from you!"
You looked at Monokuma again. "Can you play the video one more time?" Himiko gave you a confused glance. "Why?" You squinted your eyes. "I just want to see something."
The video played once more, and you noticed the angle it was recorded from. It was too tall to be Kokichi, first of all. Second of all, the camera was completely still, and humans don't have that still of a grip, especially if one hand was holding the camera while the other was pushing a button.
"Before we vote for Kokichi," You began. "I'd like to ask him something."
You stood up straight. "Kokichi," The exisal turned to you. "Ah, my favourite person! What's up?" You tilted your head. "What were we doing last night? Where were we, what time, and what did we do?" The exisal froze. "W-What do you mean? We didn't do anything." Your normally happy and gentle expression had a murderous glare. Comparable to Maki's.
"Y-Y/N, you're scaring me..." You looked at Himiko, her hand on your clenched fist with sweat dripping down her cheek.
You sighed and looked at Shuichi. "What do you have to say about this situation?"
"Well, it all seems too easy. Someone dies, the culprit confesses, and it's over?" Tsumugi put her hand on her arm. "Well, maybe Kokichi got bored of it. You know, like the Remnants of Despair."
"But if he did get bored of it, then he wouldn't have taken the time to make this video." Shuichi pointed out. "Something doesn't seem right... I think Kokichi's trying to trap us."
Maki didn't look like it, but she was rather curious about you and Shuichi's point. "Are trying to say Kokichi isn't the culprit? And suggesting that one of us is the culprit?"
"That's not what we're saying." You took out both earbuds. "All we're saying is that Kokichi... wouldn't make a class trial this short if he wanted this 'game' to be interesting. He always tries to make it as long as he can. I just feel like Kokichi-" You stopped yourself. You honestly... weren't sure if Kokichi was the mastermind or not, especially since he was able to control the exisals. "-like Kokichi isn't telling the full truth."
"How distrusting, Y/N! Welp, I'd like to say that they're right." Everyone looked at the exisal with Kokichi inside. "What? But that totally contradicts what you said earlier!" K1-B0 yelled. He's a liar, what'd you expect? "Well, yeah! I decided to use this footage to make the game more interesting!"
"It's fine... because Kokichi is the killer!" Maki concluded. You and Shuichi looked at each other, both of you wondering if that was really the truth.
"But what about the safety function on the hydraulic press?" Shuichi mentioned. "It stops when it senses a living person underneath."
You put the earbuds back in. You were frustrated, but not at the people at the trial. You were just frustrated that you couldn't do anything. "They seem to really like that song they're listening to." Himiko assumed.
Maki lost interest in your constant music listening quite quickly. "Anyways, there's no other evidence proving that the murder weapon wasn't the hydraulic pre-"

"Actually, we do. There was a blood trail coming from the bathroom to the hydraulic press, signifying that someone was dragged."
You shut your eyes and shook your head, trying to get the image of Kokichi's body being dragged from the washroom to the hydraulic press.
"Well, we don't know if that was Kaito's blood." Maki said. "We only guessed that Kaito was killed in the bathroom. There's no body to examine, so there's no proof that he was killed any other way." Shuichi thought for a moment. "There was a hole in Kaito's sleeve.."
You noticed that Himiko suddenly got really sweaty. "No, that hole had nothing to do with Kaito's death!"
You adjusted your earbud a bit, so you would be able to hear a little better. "Himiko, why are you freaking out all of a sudden?" Tsumugi asked. "I'm not freaking out... I'm just saying it's impossible for the weapon to be that small!" Himiko claimed.
Shuichi put a hand over his mouth. "I think... I think the weapon was the crossbow Y/N and I found in the washroom. There were three bloody arrows next to it, that were definitely small enough at the tip for them to be able to make a hole that small."
So the crossbow was the murder weapon?
"O-oh, I see! It's so surprising that the crossbow was the murder weapon." Himiko exaggerated her words, but you doubted it was really that surprising. You glanced at the exisal with Kokichi inside, a suspicious look in your eye.
"I'm guessing she just needs to pee. Anyways, about Kaito getting shot. If he was, then who shot him?" You looked back at the ground. You knew someone was going to blame Kokichi.
"Who else but you could've shot it?" There it is. You looked up at everyone, no emotions in your eyes.
Shuichi noticed this... and he was rather concerned. You normally had so much life in your eyes, but they were so... dull. "Then, Kokichi had to have shot Kaito from the hangar, since he was the only one there."
"O-Oh! It was possible to shoot someone from outside the hangar. There was a window in the washroom that anyone could have shot through."
As you were about to look down again, you heard someone.
"You seem to be trying to pin the blame on us." Maki accused. "Is that what a detective does? Pin the blame on their friends? You're getting in the way of defeating the Remnants of Despair."
"That's not what I'm trying to-" "STOP IT!!" Everyone turned to you, surprised by your sudden volume. "A detective has to look at all possibilities, even if it's friends. You said that emotions shouldn't be brought into a class trial, right?" Maki was silent. "On the other hand, a detective also has to be able to work with peers. Am I wrong?"
Silence.
You put the earbuds back in your ears. Shuichi and Maki looked at each other and sighed. "R-Right..." You looked at the exisal with the suspected Kokichi inside.
"A-anyways, I didn't even know about that window!" Himiko claimed. She had seemed on edge since the moment the small holes in the sleeve were mentioned.
"Just because anyone can be the culprit, doesn't mean everyone's a suspect." Kokichi said. You tilted your head as you looked at everyone. Not everyone's a suspect... "There was barely any info from the Monokuma file, not even the time of death..." You mumbled. "So anyone who had knowledge about the crossbow."
Your eyes shot around the room, looking at each person that knew about the crossbow: Maki and Shuichi.
"I didn't know about a crossbow!" Himiko defended herself. "S-so I'm not suspicious! So there's no way-" "It does concern me that Himiko went to the hangar last night." Everyone's eyes turned to K1-B0. "Okay! Then the culprit is Himiko!"
You raised a hand. "Actually, she doesn't know how to assemble it, does she?"
"Y-yeah! Maki's more suspicious than I am! The crossbow is from her research lab..."
"But anyone could've gotten the crossbow." Tsumugi reminded. Maki had a murderous glare, and she was pointing it right at Himiko. "I-I swear, I'm not the culprit! Kokichi and Maki are!"
"How am I suspicious? Anyone could've entered my lab." Maki pointed out. "I won't say I'm not suspicious. Maybe I am the culprit!" Kokichi said.
You knew what was coming and took out your earbuds. Maki, Kokichi, and Himiko began talking over each other. Himiko claimed to be empty-handed when she went to the hangar and that's when Shuichi jumped in.
"Himiko, didn't you go to the hangar with a black bag?" He asked. He lifted up a black bag, similar to the one Himiko brought to the hangar. "This was it, right?"
K1-B0 nodded, and confirmed that it was the exact bag he saw her carrying. "But that's the crossbow bag!" Maki observed. You put the earbuds and the device they were connected to in your pocket.
"W-Wait! I just brought it there! I didn't shoot it!" Himiko claimed.
"The only way someone could use the crossbow is if they assembled it, right?" You asked Maki, to which she nodded. "And the only way it could go into the bag is if it was disassembled, right?" She nodded again.
You asked for the bag Shuichi was holding and held up two parts of the crossbow in front of Himiko. "Do you know how to put these together?" She held the two parts and tried connecting them, but little did she know, those two parts didn't even go together. You took back the parts and put them back in the bag.
"I don't think it was Himiko. It is required for you to assemble the crossbow before you use it, and she clearly doesn't know how to. Especially since she was trying to connect the sight to the riser."
Himiko scratched her head in embarrassment. "R-Right! So it wasn't me..."
You stood up straight. "Only Maki, Kaito, Shuichi, and I know how to assemble the crossbow, as far as I'm concerned. Well, we are at least aware of some of the parts."
"What if Maki taught Himiko how to assemble the crossbow? And she was just lying about not knowing how to put together the parts?" Exisal Kokichi suggested. "Sh-she didn't! Right Maki?"
Maki was silent.
"M-Maki... is this about before? S-sorry... I thought they were going to suspect me... so I lied. Please... just tell them the truth." You aime a questioning look at Maki.
"Fine, I'm not going to lie. I didn't teach Himiko how to assemble the crossbow, so she couldn't have used it."
"Then why did you bring the crossbow to the hangar?" K1-B0 asked.
"I was asked to." You looked at Himiko's nose, which twitches when she lies. You noticed it in the past few minutes. It seemed to be still. "It was Kaito, right?" Shuichi asked. "Only Kaito or Kokichi could've asked for the crossbow, and Himiko wouldn't bring the crossbow if Kokichi asked her."
Himiko was asked to explain what happened. "Well, I couldn't sleep because I was nervous about the fight the next day. So I went for a stroll near the hangar. That's when I heard Kaito call out to me. He scared me, so I wet myself a little, and went over to the window. He asked for the crossbow, and I trusted him so I went to Maki's lab and gave it to him." Was the wetting herself part really necessary?
"Kaito probably tried to attack Kokichi, but got disarmed of the crossbow." K1-B0 assumed. "Then, Kokichi shot the crossbow at Kaito."
You shook your head. "I think they both shot at each other. Both Kaito and Kokichi's clothes had small holes that insinuate that they were shot at." You looked at this "Kokichi" in the exisal. "I'm not sure. I don't remember it happening..."
You scoffed. "Kokichi, if you don't remember, then we can remember for you. Why can't you come out of the exisal?"
"Cuz Miss Killer is gonna try and kill me of course!" You eyed the exisal suspiciously.
"That doesn't matter. In the end, Kokichi killed Kaito." Maki said. "So let's just hurry up and vote-" "Wait, but isn't it too soon? There's too many-" "Who cares about that? We already know who the culprit is-" "Are you sure about that?" Will anyone be able to finish their sentences?
Everyone turned to Monokuma. "As the one leading this class trial, I am offended when people say mysteries don't matter. I encourage you to really think about things. After all, there should be some mysteries that still matter. For example, is Kokichi really inside that exisal?" He paused, a small smirk appearing on his face. "It seems as though Y/N knows the answer to that."
"Well..." You began thoughtfully. "Even though we can hear Kokichi's voice from the exisal, we also heard Kaito's earlier, right?"
"Right, don't rely on that. This does have a voice changer, you know." This time, it was Kaito's voice. "Cuz of that, nobody realised I was pretending to be Kokichi. It's actually me, Kaito, Luminary of the Stars. There's kinda a situation going on, so I didn't really have a choice but to pretend I was Kokichi."
He makes a pretty good impression.
"That's not Kaito..." Maki said. "Come on, Maki Roll. Don't you believe me?" Maki seemed to burst. "Don't. EVER. CALL ME THAT!!" You looked at the floor, your hands shaking from the sudden screaming.
"Come on, Shuichi! Tell them I'm not dead!" You looked up at the exisal, which was now claiming that it was Kaito. "It seems like we have a disagreement." Monokuma said.
Your podiums were brought up into the air, one side saying Kokichi got crushed, and the other saying Kaito wasn't. But you were in the middle, in front of Monokuma.
"Y/N seems to have mixed feelings about this, so they will stay with me." You looked at your arguing allies. They all had made an effort to get through this trial. More than you had. The debate had ended, and the podiums went back down.
"As much as I'd like to deny it, all evidence points to Kaito being the victim." Shuichi said. The exisal jumped and went to a different spot in the trial room. "Yep. Sorry, that was a lie." And now it was Kokichi's voice.
You looked under the exisal and saw a glowing blue circle. You looked in the area it stood in when Kaito's voice came out, and there was also a glowing blue circle. Each blue circle was behind the person's podium, depending on who was talking.
Why would Monokuma even take the time to do that?
To make a closing argument, you needed to know what happened. "Alright, well when the crossbow fired, what was even going on?" Kokichi asked.
"Kaito had the crossbow first, and he probably shot the first shot at Kokichi!" Tsumugi stated. "And Kokichi took the crossbow, and returned fire." K1-B0 added.
"Well, only one arrow was shot." Himiko said. You tilted your head and looked at her. "One arrow? But Shuichi and I found three."
"But I only gave him one arrow." Well... that makes everything easier, doesn't it? "Are you positive?" Shuichi asked. "Of course!"
You and Shuichi looked at each other. You thought back to the night before. While you were with Kokichi, you didn't notice any arrows around the room, and he sat on the railing near the control panel, so he couldn't have hidden them in his pocket either, otherwise they would've fallen out.
"Were the extra arrows brought by a third party?" Shuichi guessed.
"But why would they bring two arrows?" K1-B0 asked. "To..." Shuichi thought for a moment. "... use for themselves."
Maki glanced at him. "But how would they even get inside?" You looked up, trying to remember a detail from the investigation. "Maybe... they used an exisal? K1-B0 saw an exisal enter the hangar last night, correct?" He nodded.
"Just to clear one thing with Monokuma." Kokichi began. "If a person were inside the exisal, would the alarm still go off?" Monokuma shook his head.
"So that's what probably happened then. When Shuichi and I were investigating, the exisal's hatch was opened, meaning that someone had been inside."
"But can anyone pilot the exisals?" Tsumugi asked. "Yep! All you need is both arms, both legs, and both nipples." You looked at Exisal Kokichi. Are you kidding me?
"But... controlling the exisal... isn't possible." Maki muttered slowly.
"Well.... all the electrohammers were charging, so they wouldn't be able to control the exisal." Kiibo recalled.
"No, that's wrong!" Shuichi yelled. "When I was investigating, I found an electrohammer in the area the exisals were circling around Monokuma." Himiko gasped. "Was that used by the third party? Maybe they used it to disable one of the exisals!"
