《So Dark the Night: A Paranormal Shifter Romance》Chapter 44

Keller fidgeted nervously, as well he should. All his tactics had failed miserably and now he was mine. I could barely contain the power swirling like a blizzard inside of me.
"If you kill me you will be the cause of death of hundreds of innocent humans." Keller was grasping at straws to save his own neck by playing at my sympathy.
"No, you are the cause of hundred of innocent deaths. I am just ridding the world of a monster."
Keller turn to run, just like the coward he was after I answered him, but his speed was no match for my power. It blasted from my finger tips so hard and fast that my hands burned.
A horrid cry of pain and death came from Keller as my power reached him and burnt him to a crisp. I looked in awe at the scene I had caused. Everything in its path was black and charred. I had never seen my power cause that much destruction.
My attention was immediately drawn to the hundreds of cries that were at the bottom of the hill, with Keller dead, all the other werewolves were dying as well. I walked on shaky legs towards Roary and fell upon my knees in front of him. I carefully picked up his head and laid it on my lap.
His death and the death of all the innocent people below hit me with full force in the chest. I lifted my head and screamed to the top of my lungs in hopes of releasing some of my pain.
Rook jumped to the top of the hill in a single bound, his wide, worried eyes resting on me. Once he saw that there was no threat, he shifted back into his human form.
It wasn't a matter of want, I needed his touch, I needed his comfort and he must have felt it. He walked around to my back, kneeled to the ground and wrapped his arms around me. I fell to pieces all over again at his touch.

"Roary." I whimpered.
"Shh... I know, love, I know." His voice was like a balm to my tattered soul.
"Roary? How did this happen?!" I looked up as my father spoke.
"Keller turned him into a werewolf in hopes of defeating me."
Tears anew fell down my cheeks as I brushed my fingers through Roary's hair.
"Then you must fix this." My father's voice turned from hurt to anger.
"How?"
I looked up at him with hopeful eyes. Did he know something that I didn't?
"Roary's not dead, not yet anyway, but he will be if we do not reverse the werewolf curse."
My father bent down and put his palm on Roary's chest. I saw it then, the very slight rise and fall of Roary's chest. Hope soared through me as I watched my brother hanging on for dear life.
"Tell me what to do." I demanded my father.
"I did it once for you when you were little, I reversed the curse, by recalling it into me, but it nearly killed me. With your power, you should be able to absorb Roary's curse."
I glanced back at Rook, whose face was hard and bloody from the war he just fought.
"Will this work for all the others that were affected by Keller's bite or just Roary because he is a hunter?" I asked.
"In theory it should work for anyone, its not the strength of the victim that is important, but the strength of the one that is removing the curse. But surely you do not intend to try to remove everyone's curse. You will die!" My father answered and his eyes widened at my question.
"Bring them to me, all the werewolves that are still alive." I said in a tone that was not to be argued with.

My father spouted off every curse word in the human language as he told me how stupid I was being.
The lycans had slowly made their way to the top of the hill and were looking at Rook, waiting for his response. I leaned back and looked him in the eyes. His rough, strong demeanor cracked slightly. I could tell by looking in his eyes that he was concerned for me.
"You heard your Luna, do as she says." Rook finally spoke and the lycans trudged back down the hill to gather up the werewolves.
My heart melted a little more for my mate. His love and respect for me had no bounds. He would honor my decisions even if he didn't agree with me. I leaned back into his chest and closed my eyes, focusing on my power.
The lycans dragged a little less than a hundred werewolves to the top of the hill and laid them down in front of me. What was over a thousand was now a mere hundred, my heart cracked a little for the loss of lives of the innocent.
I place my hand on Roary's chest and outstretched the other towards the dying werewolves.
"Eve! I want let you do this! I will not loose both of my children in one day!" My father stormed towards me, but he was immediately detained by two lycans.
My father thrashed and fought against them, trying to get to me.
"I believe in you." Rook whispered in my ear, causing a rush of adrenaline to flood my veins.
"But please, be careful." Rook requested and then place his hand on top of my hand that rested on Roary's chest.
His nearness and strength only intensified my power. I reached deep pushed my power into each and every one of them. My body trembled violently as I snaked my power into them and pulled at Keller's poison that resided in each of them.
"Eve! No!"
I could hear my father pleading with me to stop, but I couldn't, I was too far invested in this. It was working, I was pulling the werewolf curse from them all, little by little. The world around me started to sway and I could taste the metallic tang of my blood as it trickled from my nose.
"Eve. That's enough."
This time it was Rook who spoke, but even his strong, demanding voice was not enough to make me stop. I was going to finish this or I was going to die trying.
I pulled at my power until I was limp in Rook's arms. My body felt like it was on fire and everything around me started to fade to darkness as I lost consciousness.
I heard Rook plead with me and scoop up my body before everything went black.
