《So Dark the Night: A Paranormal Shifter Romance》Chapter 25

I stood motionless in the cell, my mind was trying to play catch up with what just happen. That jackass! I could not believe he had just locked me up in the dungeon, again!

Anger bubbled through my veins like molten lava. Who exactly did he think he was? I was not a princess that had to be locked up and protected in her tower. I walked up to the bars, gripped one bar on the door and the other on the cell wall. Using opposite force, I snatched the door and the little dead bolt that held the door in place, snapped in two.

I could have gotten myself out of this cage at any point, but before I was playing it nice, before, I was plotting against them and trying to gain information, but now, I was just plain pissed. I was about to show that thick headed, egotistical, male chauvinist, alpha lycan just what I was capable of.

I marched up the stairs and out into the crisp air. Leo rushed up towards me, but I continued on like a banshee on the warpath.

"I can't let you leave, the alpha gave me explicit instructions that I must follow!"

Leo leapt in front of me, blocking my path with his body, but never tried to reach out and touch me. I smiled to myself, this was going to be easier than I thought.

When I stepped forward, he stepped backwards.

"Leo, you and I both know that no matter what happens, you're not going to put a hand on me. Rook might smell your scent on me and he might go loco again." I said with a devious smile and continued on towards the house.

Leo followed behind me, more than a little defeated by the truth I had spoken. I rummaged through my room, throwing anything that I might need into an old knapsack I found in the closet.

"What is going on in here?" Yvonne asked as she bypassed Leo and walked into my room.

"I'm going after Rook and don't try to stop me." I warned.

"I wouldn't dream of trying to stop you, you are his mate, your place is by his side."

I stopped and considered her words. Was that why I was so eager to go after him? No, it couldn't be. I wanted to go with him to help him stop the werewolves, I was a huntress after all.

I ignored the strange stirring that was in my heart by the words that Yvonne spoke and continued to pack my bag.

"How may I ask are you going to get there for one and how do you plan on finding him when you have no idea where he has gone?" Yvonne asked, making more than a little sense.

"I was hoping you would point me in the right direction." I smiled.

Yvonne looked at Leo, who in turn rolled his eyes with annoyance. I could tell neither of them seemed overeager to help me find Rook, but it was either that or I was going wondering through the woods until I happen upon them.

"Come with me." Yvonne huffed and walked out of the house.

I followed closely behind her, with Leo bringing up the rear. She walked behind the house and up to a big shed. She opened the door and walked into the dimness.

"I'm sure you have notice by now that we do not have any vehicles, we do not have any use for them as we can travel swifter and quieter without them, but Rook does have a dirt bike."

"Do you think you can drive it?" She motioned towards a small sporty-looking dirt bike.

I walked over to it with a smile on my face.

"I think I can handle it."

I screwed open the gas cap and looked in it. It was full. I kicked the stand up and pushed it out into the sunlight. It was much smaller and light weight compared to the motorcycles I was used to, but that made it more practical for the rough terrain.

"This is a bad idea." Leo said as I secured my bag to my back and got on the bike.

"I assume you are coming with me?" I asked him, ignoring his moaning.

"Someone has to go with you to show you the way." He huffed. "Rook is going to skin me alive."

Leo shifted into his wolf form and looked back at me as I turned the bike's motor over with a loud roar.

"I promise to protect you." I said with a small smile.

Leo snorted at me and rushed off into the woods. I smiled my thanks to Yvonne.

"Be careful. Just because Rook was able to gain control of his feral wolf last time, doesn't mean he will be able to do it again." She warned.

"I understand." I said as I followed behind Leo.

"I'm not so sure you do."

I vaguely heard her say before I was completely engulfed in the vast wilderness. I swallowed past the lump that had formed in my throat. I hoped I wasn't making a mistake. My father had always said that my rash behavior was going to be the death of me. Hopefully today was not the day.

We rode until the day turned to dusk. My butt had gone from uncomfortable, to painful and was now completely numb by time Leo stopped.

He glanced around nervously, which in turn made me nervous. He shifted back into his human form and I tossed him the clothes I had stored in my pack for him. He quickly dressed and joined me back in the opening.

He made quick work of making a fire, never once looking at me or speaking.

I chewed the bottom of my lip nervously. Was it that big of a deal to go to another pack's territory?

"What do we do now?" I finally asked, breaking the unbearable silence.

"We wait for him to find us." Leo answered.

As if on cue, I heard a very low, very threatening growl. Leo stood up immediately and stepped away from me.

When Leo said "wait for him to find us", I knew the "him" he was referring to was Rook and by the sound of it, he had already found us and he was not happy at all.
