《So Dark the Night: A Paranormal Shifter Romance》Chapter 17

"You two remind me of bickering she wolves."

I growled as I gripped my pounding head. Leo and Conner had been going for each others throat ever since the council meeting started and I had about all of it I could stand.

Truth be told, I was tired, hungry and I hadn't seen Eve since the last time I checked on her in the middle of the night last night. That was the real reason behind my sour mood, but I refused to admit it, even to myself.

My wolf was growing more and more restless as the days passed because I hadn't claimed what was rightfully mine yet. I needed to shift and go run off some of this pinned up energy, because there was no way I was going to take Eve as my mate, I had already decided that.

"Are you even hearing what you are saying? You want us to attack and take over all the other packs? Have you gone mad?"

Leo's eyes began to glow as he was fighting back the need to transform into his wolf. Conner grinned wickedly at him, almost daring him to challenge him.

Conner was power hungry and crazy as hell if he thought for one second that I would agree to taking over the other packs. His excuse was that would stop the lycan's from changing human's into werewolf if I was in control of all the packs. What he was really trying to say was if he was in control.

"Quiet!" My voice boomed with dominance and all who were within the room bowed their heads in submission.

"We will go visit the other packs next week, not attack them. I want to be sure which ones are changing the werewolves before any senseless blood shed. Can we agree on that?"

My eyes scanned over Conner and Leo for any signs of defiance.

"Yes, alpha." They both said in unison.

"Good. Split the males evenly. I want half to go with us to the other packs and the other half to remain here to guard our home."

The council was still in an uproar, but I got up from my seat and walked out of the room without another word. I was done.

I started towards the kitchen, but somehow found myself in front of Eve's door instead. My wolf was getting on my nerves with unyielding desire to be near her constantly. I heard voices on the other side of the door. My hackles were raised until I detected it was only Mia and Yvonne within.

I knocked on the door and entered when told to do so. I learned a long time ago, you did not enter into a female's domain without permission first.

I walked in and paused at the door. My body was frozen in the doorway at the sight before me.

I hadn't seen Eve in anything other than baggy clothes that were ten times too big for her, but what she wore now was a drastic change.

My wolf howled from within at the mere sight of her. She wore skin tight black skinny jeans with rips in the legs, exposing her creamy skin. My t-shirt had been replaced with a white tank top that hugged her curves perfectly. She had showered again, her hair was silky and fell in loose waves down her back.

The room fell silent as I stood there unable to do anything except breath.

"Are you coming in or are you just going to stand there?" Yvonne's cocky voice was the distraction I needed to awaken me from my trance.

I walked further into the room, but one sniff in Eve's direction and my wolf became enraged. She no longer smelled like me, she smelled nice, but not like me and my wolf was not having it.

"Mia. Go brush your teeth and pick out your pajamas. I'll come and read you a story before I head back home."

Yvonne smiled at Mia and she dashed off with a yippee.

Eve stood and started easing her way back. She must have sensed the predator deep within, screaming to get out.

"Doesn't she look nice, Rook?"

Again Yvonne's words pulled me back to my sanity. But it still wasn't enough to appease my wolf. I continued towards her until she had no room left to go backward.

"If this is about the money we put on your account. I'll pay you back, somehow." Eve said.

She became flustered at my nearness and unknowingly nibbled her bottom lip, the sensation sent a rush of heat through my body. I reached out and snaked my arm around her waist and pulled our bodies flush. She placed both of her hands against my chest, to push me away, but she wasn't strong enough to move me.

"What are you doing?" She hissed as I brought my face closer to hers.

I felt her tense body ease in my embrace and felt it when she stopped fighting against me. I couldn't answer her now even if I wanted to, my wolf was calling the shots.

I could hear her heart as it thundered in her chest like wild horses racing across a plain. I bent my head lower and ran my cheek against the soft spot between her shoulder and neck, just like I had done the first time I had seen her.

Her skin broke out in goose bumps and her cheeks flushed. I took a few deep breaths and my wolf calmed down. She was marked and smelled like me again. I blinked my eyes a few times to come back into focus, but I still wasn't willing to let her go, not just yet.

"Umm hmm, that's exactly what I thought."

I had completely forgotten that Yvonne was still in the room with us.

"Rook, love, may I have a word?"

Yvonne rose from her spot on Eve's bed and walked out the door. Eve and I were still breathless from our encounter and the last thing I wanted to do now was leave her, but I needed to. I had to force myself to let her go now, because if I didn't I may not be able let her go ever again.
