She stirred in her sleep as sun rays peeked through the curtains making her eyes blind. Stiffling a yawn she rubbed her eyes to soothe the pain and opened after a while only to come face to face with him.
"Aahhhhhhhh." She shouted making him startle in his peacefull sleep. Waking up with a jolt he looked here & there.
"Kon hai?...kon hai?" He asked hurriedly & then his eyes landed on his beautiful wife who seem to be in the process of sinking in reality.
Hoor remembered all the events of last night and looked at him embarassed for waking him up.
"Kya hua. Cheekh kyu mari?" He asked confusedly making her ears turn red.
"Wo...wo..." she couldn't say that she got startled seeing him breathing on her face in sleep. "Ham dar gaye the." She stated stupidly.
"Mai itna khatarnak to nahi hu?" He asked himself making. Hoor laughed at his cute confused expression making him look at her.
In her morning look, dishevelled state, her hairs spread, eyes dark, a blush adorned cheeks she was looking exquisite. She looked down not able to meet his intense gaze.
Getting down from the bed she ran to bathroom away from his piercing gaze.
He came out of the trance when she closed the bathroom door. They had been through many firsts of their lives from last night. But in his eyes this was the best. Her morning face.
Sighing he layed down again missing her warmth. How their life took turns in just a night, he still couldn't grasp. It felt like a dream, she was present in His room as His bride, a dream from which he didn't wanted to wake up till the sun rises from the west.
Now he just have to work for his mistake. He had to make up to her. He won't let her go now that was for sure. But it is better said than done. He knew it would be hard to make up to her. She will surely give him hard time.
Controlling her heartbeat Hoor stepped out of the bathroom after taking shower wearing the dress which she sneaked in while coming inside.
Stepping outside she looked at him who was deep in thoughts laying on bed. Ignoring him she went to dressing table and started drying her hair. Zaydan looked at her in his favourite color. She was looking earthreal.
He got up and came behind her, looking her through mirror & stood really close to her.
"Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear." He whispered near her ear. She blushed looking away making an angry expression but failing miserably. His breath fanned her side of the face. She started breathing heavily making him more restless. A shiver ran down her spine when he moved more closer keeping his hands on dressing table on either side of her. His toned abs brushed with her back.
Hoor was getting lost in his proximity. She didn't want to lose her mind too. So she did what she thought was best in the situation.
"Aaaahhhh." Zaydan groaned in pain as soon as Hoor's elbow made contact with his abs.
Leaving her Zaydan stepped back rubbing the place where she had hit him. "Maintain your distance." She said pointing at him.
A look of hurt passed through his eyes making Hoor almost taking back her sentence but he masked his emotions replacing it with stoic expression.
He nooded at her curtly and stepped towards bathroom.
His hurt filled eyes was flashing again & again in the curtain of her eyes.

Shaking her head she got ready & stepped out of the room.

Entering the living room she greeted Shahana Begum who was sipping her morning tea. And bow down her head so that she could bless her. Patting her head whispering numerous duas Shahana begum pecked her forhead lovingly.
Than the greeting session started from her mother followed by everyone. Everyone was sat on dining table now, younger species still sleeping making Hoor sigh out of relief cause she don't know how to face them now. In a span of moment their relation was changed.
"Assalamualaikum." His voice came from behind greeting everyone making goosebumps to rise all over her body.
She didn't looked at him still.
"Mera betaa." Rukhsar lovingly kissed his head and then hers making her blush. "Nazar na lage dono ko. Aao nashta karte hai." He stepped towards his usual sit but was stopped by his chachi.
"Areee waha kaha ja rahe ho. Hoor k paas baitho na." Nusrat teased him and gestured towards Hoor.
They both looked at each other. He was looking more irresistable in traditional black kurta.
Averting their eyes when everyone laughed at Nusrat's sentence he stepped towards her.
His scent engulfed her making her relaxed. They started to have breakfast in silence with usual talking of elders and Zaydan frequently filling Hoor's plate, making her heart flutter.
Hoor got distracted when her mobile pinged with a message. She confusedly opened it & saw a message from unknown number.
"Congratulations. Enjoy your life in hell."
Her heart beat increased & she got scared at the message but shook of the thoughts thinking it as unknown number.
"Mirha ka call aya tha?" Shahana Begum asked her daughter-in-law. "Ji Ammi. Bhot khush hai wo. Saad layege use lunch par. Ammi wo..." she trailed off. "Maine Mirha ko bataya nahi Zaydan or Hoor k bare me. Call par batana munasib nahi laga."
"Hmm koi nahi. Wo ajayegi to zada ache se baat ho jayegi." Shahana begum shrugged.

Ahmer was sprawled on couch. Still sleeping he wasn't effected by any noise. All of them were awake by now & were sitting around him making noises deliberately.
"Are nahi na. Chodege nahi hame wo." Ahmed whispered in Haider's ear.
"Kuch nahi hota. Tu chup kar." Haider shushed him and started tickiling Ahmer's toes. Ahmer flinched in sleep causing Haider to retreat his hand back & again went to sleep.
This time Hamza came towards his face with a small stick he found somewhere. Gesturing all of them to keep quiet he stinged the stick in his ear making Ahmer slap himself.
All of them giggled softly. Hoor made her entry on cue & saw them gathered around Ahmer.
"Aao Hoor tum bhi aao." Fajar whispered & gestured her to come.
She stood beside her & saw them torturing the poor soul.
"Ruko ruko ruko." Saying she ran inside. Everyone looked confusingly at her. Hoor came back with shaving cream & sprawled it on Ahmer's hand which was placed at his side.
For a moment she forgot what happened last night & all her insecurities fade away when she was with them.
Taking artificial feather from the vase she tickled Ahmer on his nose. And as a reflex he slapped his hand on his nose. Spreading the cream on his face in the process.
Everyone fell down laughing hardly clutching their stomach except Ahmed who was still processing what happened.
Ahmer woke up with a jolt & looked here & there sinking in reality when his gaze landed on a surpised Ahmed. In a reflex he slapped him hard, making everyone pause their fits of laughter.

It wasn't even a second when again loud laughter resonated in Jahangir mansion with Ahmed still processing what happened with a hand on his cheek.

Hoor was sitting in her parents room with her parents listening to her mothers never ending lectures as she was in her 'sasural' now.
Rehman Khan was sitting on nearby sofa casually listening to them when he got pity on his daughter and called her to him. He engulfed her in a side hug. "Beta hamne apke sath zyadati to nahi kari na?" Hoor looked at her father through her lashes.
"Nahi abbu. Ap hmare sath kabhi zyadati nahi kar sakte." She stated smiling assuring her father.
"Kal wo...thappad..."
"Tch...abbu raat gayi baat gayi." Hoor cut off him waving her hand as if not bothered by his slap.
They continued talking & laughing for a while. After sometime Hoor looked at her mother & then father.
"Abbu ap hame wapas nahi le jayege?" She asked hopefully. "Ham itne din se ghar nahi gaye." She asked on verge of crying.
He looked at his wife & then turned towards his daughter. "Beta ab apko hamse nahi, Zaydan se permission leni hogi."
"Ye kya baat hui abbu. Ham par apka zada huq hai. Ap hi aj tak hamare sare faisle lete aye hai." She said sniffing a little.
"Beta aisi baat nahi hai..." he was cutt off by a knock on the door.
Hoor wiped her tears as her mother stood up to open the door.
"Aapi...wo Mirha aapi aagayi hai." She nodded at Safiya & stood up following her without looking at her parents.
×××××××
Hoor stopped near the living room to see the situation going on. Mirha and Saad was sitting next to each other with happy faces. On the other side of Mirha was Zaydan and beside Saad was Mirha's father.
All were talking happily & listening to Mirha's rant about her in laws.
Hoor felt like she would invade her privacy. She was feeling awkward facing them. What must be they thinking about her? How will Mirha react when she will know that she is her sister-in-law now? How can she face everyone?
Feeling suffocated she was about to step back when Rukhsar noticed her.
"Hoor. Aao beta." Cursing her fate she stepped inside with a fake smile. All eyes turned to her. Only she knew how much she hated attention at that moment.
Mumbling a small salam to the new couple she hugged Mirha who stood up seeing her enter.
"Ye kya aj tum kyu nayi dulhan ki tarah tayar ho?" Mirha asked taking in her appearance. Haider chocked on his snacks listening to her. She was still clueless. Smiling awkwardly she sat beside Rukhsar.
Ahmer cleared his throat knowing Mirha's anger issues. Ahmed & Azhar ran from there not wanting to witness her anger mumbling, "hame kaam hai ham abhi aye hai."
Hamza snatched the news paper from Ali & hid behind it.
Ali took out his mobile and pretended to do some important work cursing Hamza in the process.
Mirha looked at all of them confusedly. They were surely behaving strangely, because seconds ago they were hell bent on teasing her to death.
"In sab ko kya ho gaya?" Asking her mother she looked at her.
"Wo...Mirha hame tumhe kuch batana hai...thande dimag se sunne ki koshish karna." Rukhsar coaxed her daughter.
"Kay baat hai ammi ap dara rahi hai mujhe."
"Wo Zaydan or Hoor ka kal raat ko nikah ho gaya."
Rukhsar let her daughter sink in the information.
"Oohhh achaaa..." She replied casually but then realised what her mother said, "kyaaaaaaaaaaaa" she stood up while shouting.
"Mazak na kare Ammi." She said but saw the serious expression at her mother's face.
"Bhaiiii..." she called her brother. Who looked away from her.
"Ap...matlab...ap log ne inki shadi kara di wo bhi mere bagair..." she exclaimed, still sinking in the knowledge.
Mirha went in deep thoughts, processing everything her mother was telling. After some minutes she suddenly looked at Hoor without any expression.
Hoor became conscious of herself. What if they didn't want her to be their bhabi. It was the sole reason she hadn't faced any of the youngsters from morning.
Afterall Zaydan was thier big brother. And no-one must have imagined his wedding to be like this because of her mistake with her.
They must have something in their mind while imagining their bhabi. And now she had taken that place. What if she couldn't step into their expectations of "Badi Bhabi" of the house.
She awkwardly started fidgeting with her fingers. Saad was forgotten long ago in the background, and he didn't seem to mind.
Mirha averted her gaze from Hoor & turned towards her brothers.
"Tum log 1 call karke nahi bata skate the." She shouted, startling Ahmer, Hamza, Haider & Ali. Ahmer began to look here & there for escape whike Hamza began to fakingly choke on his snack. Ali was still hiding behind the newspaper while Haider started drinking water out of nervousness.
"Mi...mir...mirha ham ca...call karne wale the. Mag...magar wo Bhai ha bhai ne mana kar diya." Ahmer stuttered badly knowing his sisters anger.
"Mirha..." Zaydan called her. "Sab kuch itni jaldi me ho gaya k pata bhi nahi chala. Or ham kaise tumhe disturb karte. Tum adhi raat ko pohochi hogi. Or sab thake hue bhi bhot the. Isliye hame call karna munasib nahi laga." He explained his point of view.
"Or tumhe to mubarak baad dena chahiye. Itni pyari bhabi mili. Upar se shikayate kar rahi ho." Haider said like an aunty.
Hoor looked surprised at him but next second blushed.
"Sorry bhaii...bhot bhot mubarak ho." She side hugged Zaydan who whispered a small thank you.
"Hoor ko bhi relax karlo thoda." He whispered in her ear still hugging her.
"Haaayeee. Bhai abhi se itni fikar." She teased him in a whisper.
"Ye kya khusur pusur ho rahi hai?" Ahmer asked narrowing his eyes at them.
"Kuch nahi. Ham dono behen bhai ki baat hai. Tumhe kyu jalan ho rahi hai." Mirha ignored him.
"Haaa...mai to hu hi nahi na apka bhai." He huffed like a small child.
"Ammi apne ise bata diya ye adopted hai." Mirha exclaimed dramatically keeping her hand on her heart.
"Chup kar jao moti." Ahmer slapped her lightly.
"Acha bas kar jao tum dono." They stopped at their father's voice still making faces at each other.
"Hooooorrrr..." shouting Mirha stood up & came towards her engulfing in a hug as soon as she got up.
"Bhot bhot bhot mubarak hoooo..."
"Shukriya." Hoor could only whisper looking down.
"Chalo aao mujhe tum ab puri baat batao." Mirha dragged her towards Zaydan's room.
"Rukoooo mai bhi aarahi hu..." they were followed by Fajar shouting behind them not wanting to miss a chance of gossip.
×××××××××
They were seated on the sofa in Zaydan's room. Fajar filled in Mirha by yesterday's happenings. Hoor was still quiet listening to their endless talks.
"Ap to bataye apki raat kaise guzri?" Fajar asked Mirha making her blush.
"Kaisi guzri hogi? Zahir hai hame kyu batayegi ye ab inke secrets." Hoor teasingly asked her making her more red due to shyness.
Slapping both of them lightly on hand she showed them bracelet which Saad gifted her as a wedding gift excitedly.
"Tum batao tumhari raat kaise guzri?" Mirha aimed this question at Hoor teasingly but it disappeared her smile.
She looked down without uttering a word.
Sensing the situation Fajar changed the topic.
"Acha wo chodo ye batao k tumne aj tak mujhe bhi ye baat nahi batayi k tumhe Zaydan bhai pasand hai."
"Kuch batane ko tha hi nahi. Kya batate ham?" Hoor shrugged her shoulders acting non-chalant.
Mirha was noticing her every action. Her every expression. But didn't said anything.
"Lekin bhai ne tumhe reject kyu kar diya tha? Wajah to batayi hogi na." Fajar wanted every detail about the incident.
"Shayad wo hame pasand nahi karte hai." Hoor said smiling fakingly snatching away their smiles in the process.
"Kya matlab pasand nahi karte? Agar pasand nahi karte to shadi kyu karte wo tumse?" Fajar took her brother's side.
At the same moment door clicked opened making them flinch. Seeing Zaydan they stood up from there places.
Zaydan was looking at Hoor who was looking down with expressionless eyes. He sure did heard her sentence.
Wanting to give them some privacy, Mirha & Fajar sneeked out of the room sensing the situation & closing the door behind them.
Hoor stepped forward to follow them but was stopped by Zaydan stepping towards her.
"Hamse dur rahe ap." Hoor pointingly said to him.
"Kya keh rahi thi ap? Mai mohabbat nahi karta apse? Huh?" He asked her in dangerous voice ignoring her warning and stepping more close to her making her fall back on couch.
"Galat kya kaha hamne. Hame darane ya dhamkane ki zarurat nahi hai. Achi tarah samajte hai ham apko. Sabke nazro me Hero ban gaye. Hoor se shadi kon karega? Yeh apka masla nahi tha. Lekin hamare nazro me ap wahi hai jis shaks ne hamare upar ghatiya ilzam laga kar hame reject kar diya tha." Zaydan stepped back from her shocked as hell. He didn't knew she still think this about him. How would she know your reason, did you told her? His mind mocked him.
But he didn't want her to know exact reason of his denial.
Hoor looked at him who was first shocked at her, but his expression changed to that of hurt after a second. Making her regret her sentence. But he wasn't their to see her breaking every single second after that. And now he has the audacity to marry her.
Sighing dejectedly Zaydan sat on bed with his head in his hands & rubbing his hairs now & then. Making Hoor feel more guilty.
"Kya aap sach me ab mujhse mohabbat nahi karti?" She averted her gaze at the sudden question.
"Jis dil me ap the wo dil hamne usi din band kar diya tha jis lamhe apne hame thukraya tha. Ab kuch feel hi nahi hota." She shrugged her shoulders yet again & stood up to leave the room.
Zaydan was looking at her every action keenly.
She stopped near the door & turned towards him.
"Hamare dil ki chabi apke hath me hai." Saying she disappeared through the door.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
