Character driven story- a story which revolves around characters and internal conflict.

Plot driven story- a story that focuses around events and action.

If you strip every book down to its roots, these are the two categories they would fall under. There are pros and cons of writing either style of story and I have a few tips for both of them.

Character Driven Stories

Pros- get to explore many different themes and develop your characters. These books tend to be thought provoking and can be fascinating if written well.

Cons- if not written well, these books can bore readers as they aren't as focused on action.

Tips:

* plan your character's personality beforehand, make sure it is complex and has many plot twists (e.g. Secret backstories, hidden flaws)

* Still have action, just focus more on how your character feels in those situations

* Make sure your character is interacting with other characters, otherwise the reader might get sick of just hearing your character's thoughts

* INTERNAL CONFLICT! Make your character make difficult decisions.

Plot Driven Stories

Pros- won't ever be boring, action round each corner. Interesting to write and relatively easy to write.

Cons- you won't have the time to develop your character, meaning the reader won't have a certain connection/bond with the book.

Tips:

* don't have every chapter being action packed- let yourself have a few filler chapters to let tension build again

* Still try to look into your character's thoughts- even if it is briefly

* Describe action in great detail so it doesn't appear like you are rushing things.

To be honest, most books tend to be a mixture of both styles. There is no right 'driven' story, it all depends on the story.
