《Loving him from afar [Completed]》《 Chapter 9: Friendship 》

I bit my quivering lips to avoid any sob that wanted to escape from my mouth. I could feel my eyes getting teary.
At that moment I was mad, not at him. But at myself, because I had these hopeless expectations that ended up hurting me.
I know he was just looking at her, its no big deal. But still, she was thinner, better, prettier.
Everything I am not.
I made a quick call to my dad to come to pick me up and texted my friends that I'm going back home since I don't feel really well.
That night, I'll never tell anyone how much I cried.
After 2 hours, I heard a knock on my door. I have calmed down and washed my face.
"Come in" I quietly said.
"Hey." Leah peeked into my room with a slight smile.
She shut the door and joined me on my bed, and we just sat there in comforting silence. After a while, I asked her, "so what brought you here?"
"The look you had on your face when you saw him looking at her. That's what brought me here." She sighed.
Silence followed. "You know you can tell me anything," Leah said. And for the first time that night, I smiled. "Did you see how she looked tonight? She's so pretty! I couldn't help comparing myself with her. And then he was also looking at her like that-" I said while fiddling with my fingers.
She cut me off, "Looking at her doesn't mean he likes her! And let's say he does. So what? Are you going to cry yourself to sleep like this? Years from today, he will be nothing but a high school memory. I'm sure it hurts a lot, but you can't just stay still and expect a miracle to happen. Also never again compare yourself with others, know your worth." She ended her little speech I will always remember with a gentle squeeze to my hand.

"I just stopped crying you know...", I said with glistening eyes, my tears threatening to fall anytime again.
She chuckled and hugged me. I hugged her back. "Thank you...I feel much better." I mumbled.
I would surely be a mess without my best friend.

Re: (Union//Incarnation)
Two years ago, a meteor fell and decimated the southeastern lands of Gaia, turning them into wastelands constantly shrouded in white fog. None of those who saw the blazing calamity with their own eyes lived to tell the tale, and those who attempted to venture in never came back. Since then, towers, caverns, and ruins have appeared and disappeared without a pattern. Those who were brave enough to venture in were rewarded with a partner capable of defying the natural laws as humanity knows it. People started to call them ‘Incarnation’, and before long, more and more Incarnation were gathered and sold as commodity, especially after a billionaire has sponsored a fighting tournament offering cash prizes to those possessing the strongest Incarnation, spurring the greedy and desperate to hunt for the fabled creatures at the cost of their lives. Claire Saphira wanted none of that. She simply wished for a life where she could live without worry of her own survival. As she ran from the debt collectors for the umpteenth time, she was swallowed by an errant tower, where she saw a frail, pale-skinned girl with ashen hair hung by chains. It was a chance, a chance to participate in the tournament and live without worrying about survival. Yet, something nagged in the back of her mind. Why did she look so familiar? Planned release schedule: One chapter every day for Mon-Fri, and a break on Sat-Sun. The release will slow down at some point, but most likely won't go under 3 chapters a week.

On the second jump, Claire's bad leg gave way and she felt herself tumbling forward. A cry of surprise escaped her and Claire was certain she was about to topple off the side of the train. Alek, however, moved quickly, catching her mid-fall and keeping her upright, and alive. Claire lifted her eyes to meet his which were wide with alarm. The expression was fleeting, lasting for only a moment before it was replaced by a frown. "You could have fallen," he said pointedly."I know," Claire breathed, finding her thoughts drifting to the strong arm wrapped around her waist. A flush rose to her cheeks and she was grateful for the biting wind that masked her reaction. "Thank you.""You need to be more careful," he continued, his eyes locked on hers, bright and haunting in the silver glow of the moon overhead."I will," Claire assured him, her heart skipping in her chest.
