《Alpha Rogue》2 - Partner

Still craving for avocado.

It is still lunch, so I returned to the cafeteria, there's less people now and I'm a ninja.

"Oomph." I covered my eyes. The cup of avocado on my other hand.

Erase. Erase. Erase. My eyes, oh my not so innocent eyes. Why?

"Huh? What's wrong?"' Another of my bullies whispered to his... yuck... partner in their make-out session, mr. Nice to meet you. Ugh.

"What are you doing here?" Her sweet yet fake voice asked.

"I...uh..." I peeked between my fingers. The previous image of their session still in my mind. Ugh. Gross.

"Avocado." I raised my cup awkwardly. It was not my intention to look but I noticed his eyes... they were sad... for a second, hurt then angry. My chest suddenly hurt making my hand that covering my face to clutch on it.

"Tsk." He stood up.

"I didn't see nothing." I quickly scrambled out. Way to go, Thalia, Why do they have to do that in front of me? Well, for first timers I was the one who suddenly popped up and second, it's a normal thing, I think. I don't really have the affinity with that kind of thing. Aiyu said that I am still a kid, but he is older than me. He is always older than anyone.

Anyways.....Avocados are delicious! Hmm... I smiled to myself delighted. "This school year will be interesting." I mumbled.

The bell rang, and I ran.

I did not notice that I wondered to the opposite side of the school, away from my next class.

"Oh, you're late.. and because?" Congratulations, I was late. Mr. Crow raised his brow. Curse you delicious avocado!

"Late... lunch?" I whispered just enough for him to hear. He stared at me. I adjusted my glasses. That was the truth.

"And... Mr. Michael?" What? Somebody's behind me, isn't there? Wait. Michael... heard that somewhere.

"Lunch." The familiar voice said. Oh... that guy.. Yeah right, lunch.

I internally groaned at the image in my head. Erase. Erase.

Mr. Crow nod at us to go sit. Eeh.. He's tailing me. I sat at the back, the usual place, and a screech beside me suggested what I don't like. There's some whispers and laughters and disgusted looks. Oh no. What in the world are they thinking? No. No. No. It was Mira who did it with him, not me! I sat down throwing my bag to the ground. Now, I'm a whore.

"Quiet." Mr. Crow tapped the table, back to business. Although, i can still hear my new nickname. Way to expand my reputation.

"Since, Ms. Nicolai and Mr. Michael decided to turn out last, you two will be partners for this project." He pointed at the blackboard. Wait, what?

A low growl runs chills on my arms. I turned to my... partner. Unbelievable. This? This is my partner? I'd rather do it alone. I was to raise my hand but...

"You have to do it by partners, no individuals, or else, no grade." Ow. I slumped back to my seat. Getting my pen and notebook to take down notes of what the project is all about, since my excuse of a partner does not look like the writing type.

After few instructions, he left us to talk about our project. Sheesh, that's just an excuse to talk to another teacher.

So, I turned to my right, surprisingly, he was staring at me. Weird people. and so... we had a staring contest because I... I don't know. I just felt like it.

A few... something after, he shifted his gaze to my paper. I witnessed his resolve so I made a decision.

"I will draft the project for your approval." I whispered. He gave a confused look and was about to say something.

"Don't worry, I didn't see anything." I smiled before turning to my notebook. He did not bother me and that's enough satisfaction. I tried doodling while thinking of the project. Multitasking is a skill I'm good at.

Ugh. However, it is inclusive of noticing the... what should I call him again? Partner? Yep, partner. He's been annoyingly glaring at me. You're invading my personal space! But, who cares, right?

The hours passed by and he went away without a word. The remaining classes were uneventful. Sigh. My boring life. My hopes lit up a bit while walking to my last period, Gym class!

Reminding myself of the hours of exhaustion, a slight adrenaline rush, if lucky, while tiring my muscles and breaking my bones. The last part happened before, literally. Their prank was to the next level and I ended up breaking my left arm. But it was a small blip from my boring life, so it was considered fun. I sure am reckless.

I was the last one to change, wanting not to spoil my favorite class with some drenched uniform. You know how bullies have a thing with spilling drinks. And as the last one who entered the gym, I sneaked in, staying at the back.

I scanned the area, wow, my bullies are almost all here. Let's see what new record we'll make this time.

Mr. Kent walked in and since it's the first day, he asked us to start stretching before going on a 15 laps run. 15? Only 15? I groaned, but still going to comply. I tied my hair in a loose ponytail, deciding that I would not run fast. Well, depending on the bullies' pace. I did some small stretches. When I noticed a pair of eyes on me. Curious, I returned his gaze. Deep blue eyes peered back. It's him. His eyes were intense and I could practically feel him burning off our distance. Something in my stomach felt weird. I felt as if he could touch me if i move, and his eyes were... drowning me in thought. My eyes took in his presence. His dark hair were yearning for someone to run his hand into. It looks interesting. His arms were two big muscles wanting to escape from his tight shirt, he has a bulky yet comfortable looking arms.

"Line up!" If Mr. Kent did not shout, I would still probably gaping at his mighty presence. What? My partner has an amazing... hmm.. posture? I sighed. Thalia, enough of this.

I went to the back, he's with his friends, some students away from me. As we're signalled to go, I ran contemplating, measuring speed, chances of getting pushed or falling, the hate of being slow. Yet I kept my turtle pace until I saw some people walking. I took the opportunity to speed up, avoiding to run into trouble. And as I approached the fast runners, i noticed that my partner and his friends were up front. They were laughing over something that it was not on my mind that I was following their pace.

His laughter were curious tones my ears tried to keep. So I picked up my pace, and his voice were becoming my interest. He might've noticed that I was deep into staring that his face hardened, making me frown. His companion noticed it and turned to me with a questioning look. I remember him, his brown hair and his hazel eyes, almost the same built as my partner. He was sitting at the back of my Math class. He was sleeping when i sat in front of him, but he got his face up to peek at the stranger, me, who was definitely liking him off my spot, but i'm not into arguing mood so I sat on an empty chair almost as good as my favorite sit at the back.

They stopped and I did, we're done but my eyes couldn't help but wonder of this foreign people. Would they be bullies? Well, my partner practically rejected me after introducing himself. Perhaps, he wants me to notice him and makes me wonder of things I would never get the answer to. If he didn't introduce himself, I wouldn't take this much attention to him. I would probably still notice him at a point, but it'll pass by. Does he really need to come pick me up and let me hear that interesting low voice? Does he really need to be constantly staring at me? Does he really need to be my...?

Yiisshhhh!

I fell, huh? Why?

The hand pressure from my back suggested that someone pushed me. I was quick enough to prevent the fall with my hand but good God, it's getting lame. My eyes suddenly turned to my partner and I swear I saw his eyes darkened.

"Are you alright?" I nod not minding that the one who asked is the Math guy, his friend.

"Can you stand?" I nod again, slowly standing up, my eyes not leaving my partner, as if holding me in place. Something tells me that if I look away, something bad will happen.

"Your hand.. You okay?" Huh?

Math guy was about to check my hand but he... flinched. Maybe, I'm seeing things, he stopped and said a sorry before walking away like I did not exist. He and my partner talked about something before they both left. That's weird. I checked my hand and noticed some spots of blood. Oh. But it doesn't hurt that much.

And so that is the end of my day, I walked home for about half an hour. I don't care. As long as I get my muscles burning up, that's fine. I made a quick dinner at home and did not enjoy, I live alone in a functional house. That is enough, right? It is what makes of an ordinary human life, right?

How about him? This day makes me wonder. Is this enough?
