《Second Chances》Chapter 19...

I was a goner as soon as my lips touched Mia's. I wasn't going to kiss her but when those bright green eyes looked up at me, begging for me to do something I lost the battle. I didn't regret it though. There was no better feeling than kissing Mia. Nothing. And that came from a guy who's won the Super Bowl three times.
Last night I hadn't planned on asking Mia to see me again today. But when she started walking away from me I knew I had to do something. Besides all the questions I wanted answers to I couldn't just let her walk away, not again.
The day I met Mia five years ago I felt something instantly. When those green eyes looked up at me that day I was hooked. She had no idea that in that moment I was in.
I had no clue what happened that day. I never missed a throw not even just passing the ball back and forth with some friends out on the lawn. But somehow the ball veered to the right and headed straight for a red hair girl walking along the side walk. I had yelled to watch out but it was too late. I had absolutely no idea that the girl I had just hit in the face with a football would become the love of my life.
Earlier when Mia asked me why I picked number 15 I hadn't answered her. When I got drafted I specifically asked for number 15 because it meant something to me. She didn't know but it had taken me 15 days to fall in love with her. 15 days to realize that she had completely stolen my heart and that I couldn't imagine my life without her.
Even though we were broken up I wanted something that reminded me of her. Like in a way she would be beside me the whole time. So I didn't answer her question, not sure if I or even her were ready for that conversation yet.

Back at the cafe when Mia asked if I had someone in my life I wasn't lying when I said no. I didn't date. Over the years I've hooked up with maybe three people but they only ever lasted one night. I tried once to date someone, maybe a year or so after Mia and I broke up but I couldn't do it. Dating just wasn't the same for me. Besides how do can you date someone when your heart still belongs to someone?
Pulling back from the kiss I rested my forehead against her, letting out a shaky breath. God I could kiss her for hours and never get sick of it. Her hands were pressed against my chest while my hands stayed at her back holding her against me. She seemed to fit even better against me.
"That was..." Mia whispered.
"Amazing?" I supplied. She nodded making me smile. She seemed just as lost for words as I did. Neither of us were clearly planning on kissing the other today but I hoped she didn't regret it.
"Want to finish seeing the stadium?" I asked, although all I wanted to do was kiss her again.
"Sure." She answered but neither of us made the motion to move. I didn't want to let her go, ever. She belonged right here in my arms. She belonged in my life. I didn't want to get ahead of myself but when I was with Mia things made sense. Like I had been walking in a fog until she came back into my life. Last night I felt like I was breathing for the first time in five years.
I had to force my body to let her go and take a step back. If I didn't I would drag her back in for another kiss. My hands itched to hold her again but I settled for grabbing her hand. Just like everything else with Mia our hands fit perfectly together.

With our hands clasped together I lead us across the grass and towards the stands. I planned on showing her everything there was about the stadium, spending as much with her as I possibly could. Even if that meant us climbing every single stair to the top.
"Are you ready for this?" I asked as we came up to the very first row of the stadium seats.
"Ready for what?" I loved how her nose scrunched up when she was confused.
"We are going to go right there." I pointed up towards the highest seat, up in the nose bleeds section.
"Wait...are you serious?"
"Deadly. What better way to see the stadium then up at the top."
"There's no elevator for us to use?" She looked around as if one would magically appear. I chuckled under my breath and shook my head.
"Nope, we gotta go old fashioned." I lied. There was an elevator we could use to take us up the boxes where the announcers sat but where was the fun in that.
"But thats got to be over a 3,000 steps!"
"We better get started then." With a grin I dropped her hand and started walking up the steps. She wasn't kidding though there were a shit ton of steps up to the top, I would know cause we've done stadium drills where we've had to run up and down. While I have gone all the way to the top I knew for certain I was going to feel this. If I was then Mia definitely was.
"What if I decide to stay right here?" Mia placed her hands on her hips and glared at me. I paused on my step and shrugged.
"You can stay down here like a chicken. Doesn't matter to me." I knew calling her a chicken would get her to come along.
"What are you five?" She huffed but started up the steps. I grinned widely knowing it worked. If anything Mia was severely competitive, just like I was. One thing that really bonded us when we first met.
The two of us walked on opposite sides of the railing up the steps. We didn't talk for the first few flights but it was nice just being beside her. We got to about step 70 before we had to move over and continue up. My calves were starting to burn and beside me Mia was already breathing heavily.
"You are going to owe me the biggest burger after this." She panted. I glanced over at her and felt my heart skip a beat. Even with her face slightly red for climbing, and wearing a sweater, a few pieces of her red hair framing her face, she loved looked more beautiful. She had absolutely no clue what she did to me.
"Fine after this I'll get you a big burger and a milkshake."
"And fries." She added. I laughed agreeing. I would gladly buy her as many burgers and fries for the rest of her life if she wanted.
Because when it came to Mia I would do anything to make her happy.
