《Second Chances》Chapter 18...

He had to be talking about the stadium....right? It was probably a coincidence, I mean I did say it was incredible and he agreed. Just because he was looking at me doesn't mean he was talking about me. Yeah that's it. I mentally told myself.

Hunter shook his head as if to clear his thoughts. I looked away from his eyes and back to the field. It looked so much bigger than it did on tv. The fake grass looking insanely green.

"The best place to view the whole stadium is at the 50 yard line." Hunter said following my gaze down the field.

Before he could do anything I found myself yelling, "Race you!". I was already mid-motion as I yelled it, giving myself a heads up. From behind me I heard he curse before he took off after me. I grinned like an idiot as I ran my faster, trying my hardest to get to the 50 yard line before him.

My attempt was futile because we both knew who would win. Hunter had years of training under his belt and the only running I ever did was to the fridge. I knew where I needed to go yet it seemed like I wasn't going anywhere! It was way further than it looked. Damn it.

It was only a matter of seconds before I saw Hunter out of the corner of my eye. He was just casually running beside me, a stupid smirk plastered on his face, acting like this was nothing. It probably wasn't anything but here I was panting like an idiot as I ran as fast as my legs would allow. I was stupid for even thinking I could beat Hunter at a race. It didn't help his legs were much longer than mine.

"Are you slowing down there?" Hunter taunted. I narrowed my eyes at him as I pushed faster. I could see it straight ahead now. I could see that I was a few feet ahead of Hunter and with each step I got closer and closer to the 50 yard line.

Just as the thought that I was going to win flashed through my mind, I watched from the corner of my eye as Hunter sped up just a little overtaking me. In a matter of two strides he was ahead and reached the halfway point first.

I slowed to a stop, breathing heavier than I have in a long time, bending over with my hands on my knees. Oh god I think I may pass out. I can't remember the last time I ran like that.

"Y-you....c...cheater." I panted. I knew my legs were going to give and I let them. I fell onto my back on the grass, spreading my arms and legs out like a starfish. No doubt my hair was falling out of it's ponytail and sticking up everywhere.

Hunter stood above me and peered down the same smirk on his face.

"You okay down there?" He asked nonchalantly. He had the gull to not even be out of breath.

"When I get up f...from here, you are going to face my w...wrath." I panted my breathing slowing down a bit. He just laughed making me throw my head back. Well that was enough cardio to last me a month.

As I finally got my breathing under control I sat up and peered up at Hunter. He still stood over me watching with an amused look.

"Are you going to help me up?" I demanded, throwing both my arms up. He reached down and lifted me off the ground almost as if I weighed nothing. "Guess they don't call you quick feet James for no reason." I commented, straightening out my sweater and then my hair.

"Wait, quick feet James." The skin between his eyes creased as he looked at me. I could almost see the wheels turning in his head before it hit him. "You watch my games."

"What?" His statement threw me off a little. "No I don't." If he knew I watched him play he'd probably think I was some crazy stalker ex.

"Yes you do. If you didn't you wouldn't know they call me that." He sounded almost smug as he spoke.

"Psh like I would watch you play. If I remember correctly you can't throw all that well." I shot back. He took a step towards me as to what I believed the memory of us meeting came to his mind.

"And if I remember correctly you said that exact same thing to me when we first met."

"Yeah because you hit me in the face with a football." I reminded him. "Which really hurt by the way."

"I thought you said it wasn't my fault. That you were part to blame?" He raised an eyebrow.

"I lied." I shrugged like I was being serious. By the twinkling of his eyes he knew I was kidding.

"Oh so now the truth comes out I see." Hunter took another step towards me, now only inches away.

"But I was right about one thing." I made my voice go soft as my hands reached to touch his chest. When I felt the hard muscle under my hands it took everything in me not to move them and to not give into my thoughts. By the way he leaned closer in I knew I had him.

"Right about what?" His voice turned low as he gazed down at me.

"That you....throw like a child." With that I shoved his chest hard and took off down the field. I caught him off guard as he stumbled back but he managed to right himself.

I ran down the field laughing loudly, my hair whipping around my face. The look on his face was priceless when I shoved him. I was too busy laughing to notice Hunter come up right behind me until it was too late.

A pair of steel arms wrapped around my middle and whipped me around. I squealed loudly as my feet left the ground and I twirled in the air. My squeal turned to laughter as he whirled me around one more time before he slowed down.

The tips of my toes barely grazed the ground as Hunter held me tight to his chest. His arms were secure around my middle. He dipped his head so his lips were close to my ear. His breath tickled the side of my neck and sent a feeling straight down my spine. His lips softly grazed the shell of my ear as he whispered.

"Want to say that again?" I shivered at his tone. In one motion Hunter swung me around to face him. His arms were still wrapped around my back, tugging me flat against his front. My hands landed back on his chest in surprise.

I had to tilt my head back slightly to look up at his face. I knew my face was flushed as I gazed up at him, those blue eyes now midnight as he looked at me. The longer he stared at me the more my body and head screamed at me to do something. All he had to do was lean down just an inch and our lips would touch.

Everything inside of me wanted to kiss him. To feel those lips against mine and taste him. All thoughts flew from my mind as I stared up at him. I was pretty sure my eyes were begging him to do something.

I watched as something passed through his eyes before he finally leaned down and captured my lips with his. One of his hands left my waist to cradle the side of my face. As soon as our lips met I sighed and sunk against him.

It was in that moment I knew that I was finally whole once more being in Hunter's arms.
