《Klaus's Pet》Chapter 45

Klaus's POV:
Hope walks into the dining room.
"It smells like beignets!" She says excited
"I got every flavor for you." I say with a smile
Hayley walks in.
"Hold on sweetie. Go wash the paint of your hands first." She says giving a kiss on the forehead
Hope has decided to try and forego the use of paintbrushes but I'm not sure how long it'll last but I smile. Her creativity glows brighter as each day passes.
"I found them!" Freya says running in
"What?" Hayley asks
"The rest of the witches. Some are in an abandoned warehouse and the others are making their way out of town."
Hope isn't the only child Evelyn is trying to take. She's just the closest.
"Hayley and I can take the warehouse." Elijah says entering the room
"Lorelei and I will wait here. If we keep Hope here-" I begin
"No! Hope honey please leave the room." Hayley interrupts
Hope curious and a little bummed, leaves and I turn to Hayley.
"She'll be safe. Hope's magic is basically a beacon and it will draw her here and we can end this." I insist
"I can protect her with boundary spells and she won't see a thing." Freya says
"What about the witches taking off out of town?" Lorelei asks
"I'll call Rebekah. She and Marcel can hunt them down." I say
"Kill Evelyn." Hayley says and walks out of the room to Hope
After an hour of planning, we're ready. Freya cloaks Hayley and Elijah and they take off to the warehouse. Freya takes Hope and they disappear under the tunnels of the house. Rebekah and Marcel are heading to intercept the other witches.
Hayley's POV:
I walk into the warehouse with Elijah and immediately run into witches. I attack and they fight back as one.

Klaus's POV:
"What a beautiful home." A voice says
I turn and a woman stands a few hundred feet away, facing me.
Rebekah's POV:
I walk into the gas station. There's three witches in here. They are taking out security cameras while the store clerk careless scrolls on his phone.
I smile.
Makes my job easier.
I rush at one, knocking her into the fridge and shattering the glass. I speed over to another one and sink my fangs into her neck, draining her dry. Elijah snaps the neck of the third one.
I drag the bodies out and toss them into dumpsters while Elijah compels the cashier. I close the dumpster and call Freya for an updated location.
Four more to go about two miles away.
Klaus's POV:
"It's a shame this couldn't go more peacefully."
"I'd never let you simply take my child. You'll regret your actions. Death is quick but torture can last a lifetime." I hiss
"I'll take her and I'll kill all of you." She says simply
"You come into my home making threats? You've misplayed your hand." I tell her
Evelyn stares at me but I can see the confusion in her eyes.
"By this point Hayley and Elijah are at the warehouse and Rebekah and Marcel have found the other witches who made a run for it. So they're all dead only leaving..." I trail off pointing at her
Lorelei's POV:
I stand still where I'm crouched down, hidden behind the pillar. We wanted Nik to have backup if she decided to enter the compound. The good news is, Freya lit a candle infused with black magic. It's called Flame of Imprisonment and now the only one who can leave the compound or extinguish the flame is Freya. Kol helped her create one. It's a black candle with an upside down skull resting on the base.

I grit my teeth as the witch launches Nik into the wall. We have to time this perfectly or we're screwed. I see the light across from me flicker.
Freya's signal.
I'm now cloaked.
Evelyn won't see me coming.
"I'm taking her and I'll wipe her memory so she doesn't remember any of you. " Evelyn says
My eyes glow and I lunge at her. I collide into her, knocking her to the ground. I roll a few feet and crouch, turning as Nik breaks a chair and chucks a piece of metal that lands in her leg. She screams.
She flings him back into the wall and pins him up in the air. Before she can snap his neck leaving him indisposed, I rush at her. I bite and scratch as she screams and tries to fight off her invisible attacker.
She whispers an enchantment and there's a blinding white light and piercing ringing noise and I stumble back.
I turn back and collapse to the ground. It takes me a moment to realize as my hearing returns that the person screaming, is me.
"Fuck! Fuck! My eyes!" I yell
I feel someone in front of me and kick hard.
"Lorelei it's me! She's gone." Nik says
"I can't see!" I tell him
"Bloody hell. We'll see what Freya can do."
I feel as he lifts me off the ground and listen to his footsteps.
Klaus's POV:
I go down to the tunnels and explain what happened.
"She just disappeared?" Freya asks stunned
"She knew she was outnumbered." I say
Freya takes down the spell and I tell Hope to go to her room for a few minutes and bring Freya to where Lorelei is lying on the couch.
Freya finishes checking Lorelei out after a few minutes.
"She'll heal. It might take a minute but I'm not sure what spell Evelyn casted."
She looks to me for an explanation.
"She didn't say anything. One moment she was here then she was gone." I say
I hand Lorelei a blood bag and guide it to her mouth. She's content so I go check on Hope.
"Is everything okay?" Hope asks as I walk into her room
"Everything is fine sweetheart."

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!

Cosmic Bulldozing Team
"Welcome to the Cosmic Bulldozing Team! CBT for short... references to any other acronyms are purely coincidental." Breve has one exceptional gift: an inborn potential for Resurrection magic. The cost? Every other healing spell she casts is absolutely paltry in comparison to the rest of her race, making her family outcasts within her society. That potential alone, however, classes Breve as a Rank A Healer. By what metric? Well, by the crazy elf lady who’s about to destroy her planet. Wait, what? Here's the low-down: her planet has been targeted by the Cosmic Bulldozing Team, which, as their name suggests, operates in the apparently lucrative business of destroying planets. This comes with the unfortunate side-effect of also murdering everyone who lives there. And Breve would’ve been killed, too, if she hasn’t unintentionally passed their audition for a new healer. Unwillingly saved by the people who just annihilated everything Breve ever knew and loved, she’s dragged into a massive spaceship before, without a moment’s reprieve, being assigned missions to sally forth and commit the same atrocities on other planets. And with Breve's home lying in a pile of celestial bedrock, it seems that cooperating is the only option. And she will cooperate, or so help her, they'll send her back whence she came: into the void of space, where the smashed rubble of her planet now drifts along. "Buckle in, rookie: you've got some planetary destruction ahead of you." (Updates every 2 days.)
