《Klaus's Pet》Chapter 44

Hayley's POV:
Lorelei and I take off into the street.
"Hayley I'm so sorry." Lorelei says
"It's not your fault Lorelei. Evelyn has been trying to take Hope for awhile now. I thought we had chased her out of town and that it was safe for Hope to be out in town again and I was wrong. This is on me. But it doesn't matter now. We need to find her."
Klaus's POV:
I pace back and forth as Freya skims through the Grimoire on the table.
"Klaus I know this is a lot to deal with right now but I can't focus with you doing that." She says
I walk out of the room and focus, trying to come up with a plan.
Hayley's POV:
"How could they have just snatched her like that?" Lorelei asks
"They must've been watching us."
She's silent for a moment.
"The woman at the bar!" I say
But why? Hope wasn't even with me.
They were checking us out. They were trying to pinpoint the best time to take her.
"She must've been one of Evelyn's followers. This is where we were, over here." Lorelei says walking over to a spot.
I close my eyes and inhale. The scent is faint but I can catch my daughter's scent.
"Yep. Let's go." I say
We follow the scent but lose it a few blocks down. I look down the street. And another.
Nothing.
Freya's POV:
I close my eyes in frustration.
It's the fifth spell and nothing worked to break the cloaking spell.
"Anything?" Klaus asks annoyed
"Brother I am doing the best I can. There's at least 15 witches anchoring this spell somewhere. I can feel the magic and it's strong. Evelyn doesn't just have a coven. She has an army."

Klaus's eyes widen.
This situation is worse than we've imagined.
"Well track her then. I'll rip the heart from her chest and leave her corpse for her followers to find."
"I can't locate her either."
"What CAN you do?"
"I'll send you to the witches who are anchoring it. Someone didn't think to cloak them. Kill them and the spell will be broken."
Klaus's POV:
I get the address and speed off.
There's 12 witches in the woods surrounded by torches. They are sitting in a circle. I break off a large tree limb and launch it into the chest of one of the witches. They all start bleeding from where I had struck the one. They are all linked so they're all going to die together.
Blood trickles from their mouths and they all crumple. The lights in the torches go out.
It worked.
Hayley's POV:
I start pacing frustrated. The phone rings and Lorelei pulls her cell out of her pocket.
"Yeah. Great. Where?" She asks
She hangs up.
"They're at a house an hour away. Freya broke their spell. It's 403 Werth Avenue."
We take off as fast as our legs can carry us. It's a two story brick house with a chain linked fence but it has borded up windows.
Lorelei goes through the back and I enter through the front. We've caught them off guard because there's witches in the hallway. I snap necks left and right and rip off limbs. I catch one woman as she exits a room and I pin her to the wall so hard it cracks the drywall.
"Where is my daughter?" I demand
She doesn't speak, looking stunned.
Lorelei joins me from upstairs and shakes her head.
She HAS to be here.
"I won't ask you again, I'll rip your throat out." I say with a growl

She points to a door towards the other side of the hallway. I slam her head into the wall, knocking her unconscious.
We rush down the hallway.
Lorelei walks a few steps into the room and collapses to the floor. Hope is in the middle of the room in a chair that's surrounded by salt. I rush in and feel someone enter behind me. Another witch.
"Hope baby close your eyes." I tell her
She does and I move to kill the man but he attacks, hitting me with a strong force, knocking me back a few feet.
"You messed with the wrong family." I hiss at him
"I don't care who you are. I'm doing what I'm told. Just like wolves have an alpha, we have a leader we must answer to."
"Your leader will be dead soon enough but you won't live to see it."
Suddenly Lorelei springs up from out of his view and she snaps his neck.
I listen for any more footsteps and I don't hear any. I rush over to my daughter but there's a boundary spell keeping me from her.
Lorelei calls Freya back.
Freya appears moments later in astral projection. She's got a bloody nose.
"Freya are you okay?" Lorelei asks
"I'll be fine." She says wiping it away
Then she gets to work on breaking the spell.
"It's okay sweetie." I reassure my daughter
After a few moments, we snatch her out and speed back home.
As soon as we're back at the compound, Hope runs into Klaus's arms.

Trials of a Magic Core
He was brave, and noble, and true. He was also a hunk of crystal floating in a magical circle, brought into existence by the self-styled "Greatest Magus of All Time" to be his personal intelligent magical encyclopedia, filled with every minutiae of the arcane this Magus could stuff into it, all ready and accessible at a moment's notice. But is simply knowing all there is to life? Can he strive for more? Should he? (Writer's Note:) I'm a pretty new writer, so expect delays, errors, inconsistent logic, plot holes the size of a small 4-wheeled vehicle, and a distinct lack of snark. At least from the MC. Also, yes, the cover is an image I made in paint. I have...NO artistic skills. It is a placeholder. Also, I came up with this idea in the shower after a nine-hour RRL binge. SO BEAR WITH ME.
