《His Innocent Fox... BoyXBoy》Chapter Thirty-Eight

against Niko, fisting my hands into his jacket, as he gives a warning growl, and my ears flatten on their own accord. I wriggle free from his grasp, which causes him to snap his gaze down to me, as I give an angry huff, and flick him in the nose.
" Hey?! What was that for Baby Boy?!" He exclaims, his eyebrows knitted together in absolute confusion, as I whirl around, stomp forward, shoot a very annoyed glance towards the girls, who give me a knowing look back, grab Osiris's hand, which elicits a growl from Niko, and drag him up to Niko.
" Okay... So this is how this is going to go! Niko, meet Osiris... The one who killed Xavier, and saved my life!" I announce, which earns a scoff from behind Niko." Castiel, don't you me come back there and smack you!" I growl, shooting him an icy glare, as he holds his hands up in surrender, and takes a step back.
" I know what he did to Jazz hurt all of you, but... He has actually changed for the better! Meet his Mate and kids!" I explain to my Mate, coaxing Averi and their kids out from the crowd. Averi cowers behind Osiris, but Ava, little Ava, not nutcase Ava over there, waddles forward, makes grabby hands at me, and I lift her up instantly... Placing her on my hip.
" And this little Angel..." I pause, nuzzling my nose against her little one. " Is Ava!" I exclaim excitedly, turning so she is facing Niko, as he gives a small smile, and gently nudges her chipmunk like cheek with his index finger.
" Oh! And their son Sage, and Averi... Whom is Osiris's Mate! See Niko..." I say, placing Ava carefully into Osiris's arms. " People can change... Now you two are going to shake on it, and make a Truce!" I continue, stepping aside, as Niko looks at Osiris with his eyes narrowed, and then turns away.

" Ni---"
" He may have changed Ravyn... But I can NEVER forgive him for what he did to Jazz... It was too far, and nothing will change that." Niko says softly, but I hear his voice crack a little, as Cas, his eyes huge, walks up to the broken man, and the two just stare quietly at each other... Seeming to have a full conversation using each other's eyes as the words.
" I'm so sorry..." I mouth to Osiris, who hands Ava to Averi, as the mighty Shifter drops his head in sorrow and shame, and walks away after giving me a final smile... I turn to go hug, instincts telling me to do so, but a hand suddenly closes around my tiny wrist, and I am tugged away.
I look back, my eyes huge and bottom lip quivering, only to see Niko looking back at me with a 'please don't' look in his eyes, as I give a small whimper, look back at the girls and the place Osiris had just been standing, and then stumble after Niko... Having no choice.
The whole car ride back, Niko, who gave the driving job over to Cas, sits in the passengers seat, me held securely in his lap, as Kyson sleeps in the back, his left arm draped across his face to shield him from view, and we just go in complete silence.
" So... Um... I suppose you're made at me?" I finally break the eerie silence, my ears still pressed flat against my white curls, as I lean my head back timidly, giving a small yawn, and nuzzle my face into the crook of his neck. I hate this!
' Shush Princess... Get yourself some rest.' Niko soothes through our link, making me give a small nod in response, as I curl up in his lap, and drift off to sleep... Finally back in my Mate's strong, comforting arms.

I begin to stir as a soft breeze, nice and cool, kisses my skin, and the comforting scents of home flood my glands. I peel open my eyes, narrowing them slightly from the sudden brightness of the sun, raise my head from where it was once rested on Niko's shoulder very comfortably, and gaze around.
" Mmm... Feels good to finally be home." I moan out, stretching out my arms, as I take a deep breath of fresh air, and gently kick my legs to show I want to be put down. Niko, after hesitating for a moment, gently places me down on my feet, but keeps himself close, as I wiggle my toes in the soft green grass, and give a happy squeal.
" How has the family be---"
" RAVYN!" Before I can finish asking Niko my question, my name is screamed from across the way, and, a moment later, I am tackled to the ground... Jemm and Jaxx hugging the sweet Hell out of me.
" Okay... H-hard to breath!" I wheeze out, lightly giggling, as the two jump away from me instantly, and begin to check me for any injuries that they may have caused. Waving off their worry, I pull myself up into a sitting position, although still slightly winded, and look up at them with my left eye closed.
We all burst into laughter, just happy that we have been reunited after a long time, until Niko lifts me back up into his arms, helps the two up, and we all head inside. I rub my eyes, giving a yawn, as Niko closes the front doors behind him, and places me down on the Foyer floor.
Without even hesitating, I race upstairs to our room, not even caring that Niko is chasing after me, even though I KNOW he knows where I'm heading, and burst into our room. When my eyes land on Robyn, fast asleep in the middle of the bed, his arms curled tightly around the pillow I always sleep with, my heart swells, and I stumble quietly up to him.
" Hey there Ravyn..." I flash Alec, who is sitting on the sofa, his eyes tired and trained on Robyn, a small smile, as I rush over, hug him, and then crawl up onto the bed. I sit down, my eyes full of love, and lean over him.
" R....avyn no.... No R-Ravyn... Pl-please don't go.." He mumbles, his eyebrows knitted together, as he grips onto my pillow like all life depends on it, and begins to whimper.
I place my hand on his shoulder, and he begins to stir from his sleep. He blinks in confusion, his eyes trained on Alec, before his nose begins to go crazy, sniffing at the air, and he slowly turns his head back.
" Hey there..." I smile, acting as calm as I can, even though I am literally freaking out from finally being reunited with my twin on the inside, as he shoots himself upwards, and throws his arms around me... Breathing in my scent in rapid sniffs, as I hug him back, and gently kiss him on the neck.
I feel tears pool in my eyes, and I allow them to fall, as he squeezes the life out of me, and I just enjoy it... Loving that he is back in my arms, and we are both safe. I'm home again... And I'm not going anywhere...

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
