《Two Brothers》Chapter 42

I was preparing the new auction report, this is a very important auction for us. The land for auction is in the heart of city and building an integrated township within the heart of the city is a great asset to the company. I am confident about the auction and Siddharth is confident about the bidding. He asked me to prepare the report as soon as possible so that he can review it.
I finished the report and proof read it once. I took the print and filed it in a folder. I decided to take it to him by myself. It's been awhile since I saw Priya. I kind of missed our chit chat. I walked towards Siddharth's office after coming out of the lift. I saw Priya coming out of her cabin with some files. She saw and waved her hand at me with a smile. I smiled and waved back.
"Hey. Where were you? I haven't seen you since the party." I asked her. Her smile dropped and she bit her lips. "I. I was not feeling well, so I took the sick leave." She said. "Oh. What happened? How are you now?" I asked concerned. "Yeah. I'm fine now. How are you? What are doing here?" She asked.
"I'm good. I came here to give the auction report to Sid and also thought that I could spend a little time with my cute friend." I said while pinching her nose. She hummed and rubbed her nose and pouted. "Okay then come inside. I too have to give this file to him. After that we can go to the canteen and have coffee." She said and pulled me with her.
Sid was doing something in his desktop computer when we entered. He looked up to us when he hears our giggles. He gave us a wide smile and got up from the chair and stalked towards me. He gave me bear hug. "How is my sweet sis-in-law? I missed you." He said with a happy smile. I scoffed at his gesture. "I'm fine. How have you been?" I asked. He smiled and glared at Priya. She immediately looked away. "I have never been better." He smirked looking at her. I frowned at both of them.
"What's cooking?" I crossed my arms and gave them a questioning look. "Nothing." Priya said at once. I scoffed at her. "Why is he calling you sis-in-law?" Now she was the one who gave that questioning look. I bit my lips and looked at Sid. He smiled and crossed his hands across his chest and turned to Priya. "Because she is my sis-in-law." He said smiling. Creases appeared on Priya's forehead. "She is married to my brother." He said. Priya's mouth fell open. She looked at both of us in surprise. "You mean Mr. Vedant Aryan?" She asked. Sid nodded his head in a yes. She looked at me with surprise. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?" She asked. "It's complicated." I said and gave her tight lipped smirk. She raised her eyebrow and tilted her towards me. "I will tell you later." I said with a blank look. She gave me an understanding nod.

We all walked towards the sofa and sat there. We discussed about the auction report and Sid gave me some of his suggestions and pointed out some changes that I should consider. After a little chitchat we got up to leave, that's when the door to the room opened and Vedant entered. I looked at him and he looked surprised to see me here. Sid got up fast from the sofa with a smile. "Hey, brother..." He opened his mouth to talk but became speechless when he saw the other person entered the office after Vedant.
"Arohi?!!" Sid's mouth gape opened. Sid was having the same look Ved had when he saw Arohi on that morning. Arohi gave a small smile to Sid. He looked between Ved and Arohi with a shocked face. It took a few moments for him to come back to his senses. He ran his hands on his face and looked at Ved. "She. She is not dead." He said looking at Ved. Ved nodded his head. "Then where was she all these years? Her dad told you that she died in that accident right. Why did he lie?" He asked still in shock.
"I was in coma for more than a year after that accident Sid." Arohi said in a low voice. Everyone looked at her in shock. "What?" Sid asked her.
"My father took me to US for treatment. I was under treatment for two years there. After that he didn't let me come back. He told me that Ved doesn't care about me and he has moved on from me. I believed it because he never came looking for me and also because of the fight we had on the night before the accident. And he never tried to contact me also. Recently only I came to know that my father lied to him that I died in that accident. I questioned him and we had an argument. He told me that he did it because he wants to get rid of Ved from my life. He was furious towards Ved that he caused the accident and it almost cost my life. I tried to make him understand that the accident was not Ved's fault, it was unintentional but he was not ready to listen. My father always tried to convince me to marry someone else but I couldn't do it because I was still in love with Ved. And when I realised he is going to get me married to a businessman by force I ran away from home. I came back to tell everything to Ved and clear the misunderstandings, but I guess I'm far too late." She said and gave Ved a sad smile. Her eyes were filled with tears.
The uneasiness in my heart was increasing. I lowered my gaze. My eyes were glassy. They were in love, perhaps still are. Fate played a role in separating them in the past and now I am the one who came in between. If he didn't marry me, then they still had a chance. What will he do now? He already made it clear that we won't be together forever. Will he let me go? Will he choose his love over his revenge? I know if we are divorcing he won't be able to keep the shares. You may call me selfish but a small part of me wishes that he don't let go of his revenge. I want him to choose me. But who am I to wish such things? I looked up and saw that everyone was looking at me. Ved was looking at me with pain and guilt. Sid and Priya held pity.

I cleared my throat. "I. I will go out." I said and walked towards the door. Priya followed me. I came out and leaned back to wall. I'm trying my beat to not break down. I took deep breath. I wanted to run away from everyone's view but my legs were weak. Then I felt someone rubbing my back. I looked and saw Priya with tear filled eyes and a concerned look. She led me to her cabin and made me to sit on one of the chairs. I lifted my head to look at her and that's when all my control left me. I hugged her waist and cried my heart out.

I was walking out of the office building when I spotted Ved and Arohi standing there. They were talking with each other. I gulped down the lump forming in my throat and took a deep breath. They both looked at me when I reached near them. Arohi smiled at me and Ved was in his usual emotionless face. "Hmm. Raghu will take you both back to the pent house. I have a meeting to attend." He said. I nodded without looking at him. "He went to get the car. Shall we go near the pickup point?" He asked again. I still didn't look at him. "Yeah sure." I heard Arohi replying and we walked towards the pickup point and waited for Raghu to bring the car. Suddenly Arohi's cell rang. She excused us and walked away to pick the call. I knew that Ved's gaze was on me, which made me look everywhere but him. I saw Arohi walking towards the road while talking in the phone. I couldn't help but jealous that Ved's heart once belongs to this woman. Or is it still with her?!!
"Niharika." I heard Ved calling me. I looked at him. We stared each other for a second. I looked away instantly. "I..." He started to say something but was cut off when I screamed. "AROHI."
I ran towards Arohi. She was a little away from us. She was so much immersed in the conversation over the phone that she didn't realize that she stepped on to the main road and a car was coming at her in full speed. She didn't hear me shouting her name. The car almost reached her when I pulled her back. She jerked me with force and we both stumbled back and fell on to the foot path.
I sighed in relief when the shock left me. We both sat up and panted heavily. She looked at me and then looked at the road in shock. There were some people standing on the foot path and they gathered around us. "Are you alright?" I asked her while getting up. She nodded at me. I extended my hands towards her and she took it and got up. "Thank you." She mumbled. Her voice was still shaky. I smiled at her.
That's when Ved came to us while moving the people gathered around us. He looked terrified. He looked at us. "We are okay." I said to him and he nodded. Then his gaze fell on Arohi. "Are you alright?" He asked and held her shoulders and looked at her hands and legs for any injuries. "I'm fine Ved." She replied. He looked at her. He suddenly cupped her face. "You are bleeding." He said while turning her head to right and checking her temple. Raghu brought the car by the time in front of us and came towards us.
"Raghu, give me the key. Take Niharika to home in my car. I'm taking Arohi to the hospital." He said. "Ved, I'm telling you that I'm fine. No need to go to hospital." She told him. "I don't want to argue in this matter. Get in the car now." He gritted his teeth and ordered with his cold attitude and went around the car to get into the driver's seat. Arohi sighed and turn to get into the passenger seat and our eyes met. She looked at me with a guilt expression. I bit my lips and gave her a weak smile while holding my left hand with my right. It was so difficult to not let the tears fall. He took off the car when she closed the door without even sparing me a glare.
