《Two Brothers》Chapter 26

Kavya
I was eating a bowl of mango flavoured yoghurt while watching my favourite TV show. It was really hectic in the boutique today. Some new collections have arrived and my pre ordered customers came today. I was busy for full day today.
I was feeling hungry after the long hot bath. I was not in the mood of cooking so took out the flavoured yoghurt from the fridge. Today is the final episode of my favourite series. It was reaching the climax when I heard the door bell. I kept the yoghurt bowl on the side table and sighed in irritation and walked towards the door.
The person in front of my door gave me a heart attack by her presence. It was Niharika. She was socked in rain from head to toe. Her eyes were red and puffy. They held an emotionless stare. She looked like a zombie. Her face was pale. She was shaking. "Hari. What happened to you?" I asked anxiously. She didn't say anything. "Come inside." Saying I pulled her inside and closed the door.
When we reached the living area I turned to her and asked. "What happened? Did that scumbag did something to you?" I was afraid that Karan Kohli has something to do with her condition. She turned her gaze at me. Her eyes started to water. Suddenly she hugged me tight and cried. I was stunned for a moment. Then I slowly tapped her back. "Tell me Hari. What happened?" I asked softly. But I didn't get any reply instead I felt her weight is increasing. "Hari. Niharika?" I called and pulled her out from the hug. She was unconscious. I couldn't hold her weight. I slowly made her lay on the floor. I was totally afraid now. What happened to her? Why is she in this state? I tried to call her but there was no response. I heard someone banging the door when I was about to get water. I ran to the door and opened it. I saw a panicked Vedant standing in front of me. He was totally dishevelled.

"Where is she? Where is Niharika?" He yelled at me. "I don't know what happened. She just showed up here few minutes ago all socked wet. Now she is not waking up." I could feel the shaking in my voice. He ran into the room. He stopped once he saw her on the floor. Then he kneeled down next to her and took her head in his hands. "Niharika. Niharika." He shouted. "She is cold. She is freezing. We have to take her to hospital." He said while carrying her in his arms. He ran outside and pressed the elevator button. I followed them after locking the room. I looked at him. His eyes were filled with tears. He was looking at her like his life is going to end. His hold on her was so tight. It was like if he loosens the grip she will leave him. The panic was evident in his eyes.
I was holding my life in my hands throughout the drive to hospital. He was driving like a maniac. I left my breath only after the car stopped in front of the hospital. He opened the back door and took her again in his arms. He ran into the hospital calling for the doctors. They brought a stretcher took her to the doctor.
.....................................................................
We both are now waiting outside the room for the doctor to finish the check up. Vedant was restless. He was looking at his watch from time to time. The doctor finally came out and asked. "Who is with Ms. Nharika Varma?" we both ran towards him.
"Who are you to the patient? Are you her relatives?" He asked us. "I am her friend. And this is.." I was cut off by him. "I am her HUSBAND." He said firmly. I was shocked. I looked at him questioningly. What the hell? Did he lose his mind?

"Oh. I see. And you are?" the doctor asked. "I am Vedant. Vedant Aryan." He said.
"Ok. Mr. Aryan. So your wife is having a high fever. It is pure luck that you got her here before she caught hypothermia. It looks like she is very much stressed. Now she is stable. But we have to keep a check on her temperature. I suggest keeping her in observation for tonight and if the temperature goes down by tomorrow morning you can take her home." The doctor said.
"Ok. Thank you doctor." He said and shook the doctor's hand. The doctor nodded and walks away. He sighed in relief and turned towards the room. I got a hold of his hand and made him to turn. "What non sense were you talking to the doctor? Husband? When did you become her husband? Han?!! What do you think of yourself? I know you have something to do with her condition right. What did you do now? Why is she in this condition?" I asked furiously.
"I am her husband. And I don't have to explain the things between us to you. Now I am going to see my WIFE. So leave my hand." He was very intimidating. It felt like his eyes were boring holes in my face. My grip on his hand left automatically. He turned around and walked fast into the room. I followed.
She was sleeping on the hospital bed. Her clothes were changed in to a hospital gown. Her hair was lying freely around her. There are dark circles under her eyes. The blue colour left her lips but it was still pale. There was an IV drip attached to her left hand. I remember seeing her in a hospital bed last time. But the situation was far worse than this. Thank god this time nothing serious happened.
Vedant was looking at her with concern. He walked towards her and sat on the bed he slowly removed a strand of hair lying on her face. Then he held her free hand in between his palms and brought it to his lips. He gave a soft kiss on it. "I am sorry. I am so sorry. Please forgive me." he said I could see tears falling down from his eyes.
For some reason I am starting to believe this guy. I don't know why he is calling himself as her husband but I could sense the sincerity in his voice. His eyes held a deep emotion. The way he is looking at her, shows how much he care about her. It was something she is yearning for years. And she deserves someone who genuinely cares for her. Could he be her knight in shining armour?

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
