《The Third String.》Chapter-18

It was my freaking engagement today! Sahil had taken a week off from school but I had a hearing scheduled up this morning which was unavoidable and mumma and badi maa were freaking out.
" Shivanya, beta it's your engagement in the evening. You should cancel today. Who goes to the office on their own engagement?" Badi maa asked, sounding panicked. Mumma was looking panicked.
" Badi maa, I could simply not help it because I was just informed about all this yesterday late night. I don't have an option but you don't worry. I will reach there on time. Just keep my outfit in the car. If I get late, I'll get ready on the office and come directly to the venue. Just make sure to send me the location." I said.
" Shivanya madam, you don't have a car if I may remind you." Vivaan bhai taunted.
" I have a car bhai. Yours." I said, taking the car keys kept on the coffee table.
" You wish....the keys are not of my car. It's papa's." He said, smugly.
" Bhai, let's not fight on cars. We have four of them." I replied back, rolling my eyes.
" Good morning mumma." Sahil said, getting inside the house with papa and bade papa.
" Good morning my baby. How was your morning walk with the nanus'?" I asked him.
" Very good mumma. Are you going somewhere?" He asked, looking at me. I was wearing my formals.
" Yes champ. Mumma has to go to office." I replied.
" But I thought that you and papa will make each other wear the rings today!" He exclaimed.
" See, my four year old grandson is more intelligent than you." Mumma taunted.
I kissed Sahil's forehead and bid bye to everyone before leaving. As said, my outfit along with other things were put in the car.
In an hour and a half, I was in the court and boss was waiting for me.
" I am sorry Shivanya that I had to call you today but you were the most well versed with this case than any of us." He said, sounding and looking apologetic.
" It's okay sir. Let's get in. You can compensate this by coming to the engagement with Bipasha mam tonight." I said.
" Of course, we are coming." He said and we walked in.
The hearing started.
I stood , and walked up to the judge, where the curious crowd behind her could also listen in.
"My client has been seen holding a knife over the dead body of Rahul Saxena." I paused to look at the man then continued even louder.
"Although he is innocent." The crowd behind her gasped.
"Until proven guilty." I added.
I continued, with one finger high in the air,
"Mr. Malhotra, should know better." With full force I slammed my hands on the opposing attorney's desk.
" Order order." The judge banged the gavel.
Shit, I was so into it. Calm down Shivanya.
" I am sorry your honor, but Mr. Malhotra cannot treat my client like he has been proved to be the murderer. Innocent until proven guilty, point to be noted your honor." I said, gulping the glass of water down my throat.
" Mr. Malhotra, you will treat Vikram Juneja as a defendant and not as a murderer. Is that clear?" The judge said sternly.
Their was lunch and sir and I had a vada paw.

" You are doing great Shivanya, we may push for the verdict today." He said.
" Thank you sir, and yes this case is getting closed today. I have had enough of this Malhotra." I said and he chuckled.
The hearing resumed soon and by 5 in the evening, we had won the case. Done, dusted and emerged victorious.
" I knew that I will not regret hiring you Ms. Sharma, I am proud of you." Sir said.
" Thank you so much." I replied back.
" Now you knew that they were a big client and you are officially making your first seven figure fees here." He said, handing me a cheque of 1 crore.
OH.MY.FREAKING.LORD!!
Could this day get any better.!!
" Thank you so much sir." I exclaimed.
" I think you should get going now." He said. I nodded and started walking away, when suddenly I realized.
" Sir, you were so sure of winning? I mean, why would you keep a one crore cheque in your pocket just so casually?" I asked, turning back.
" I know your track record in the States Shivanya and I like to treat my best employees with the best." He said grinning.
I offered him a smile, turned and walked away.
Now the real problem begun.
It would take me at least an hour to reach the venue or maybe more because of the traffic and another half an hour to get ready. It was 5:30 in the evening and I was supposed to reach there by 6:30. I am going to be one hour late on my own engagement if I go back to my house to get ready. Abhimanyu's was just 5 kms away from here. Would it be better to get ready there? Yes! Anything better than facing the wrath of mumma and badi maa!
I quickly drove to home and rung the bell. Diya opened the door.
" Bhabhi, what are you doing here and why are you not ready!"She exclaimed, looking at me.
" Nice to see you too Diyu." I said, entering.
She rolled her eyes and I explained the situation to her.
" Both you and bhai are the same. Work, work and more work!
" Shivanya beta, is everything all right? What are you doing here?" Maa asked, seeing me.
Diya explained the complete situation to her and she sighed.
" We all are leaving to welcome the guests. Both Abhimanyu and you get ready and come quickly." She said, I nodded.
" Shivi, what are you doing here beta?" Dad asked, seeing me.
" I'll tell you everything on the way. Let's go now. Come Diya." Maa said, dragging dad out. Diya followed them.
I immediately was on my wat to the guest room to get ready when I bumped with Abhimanyu.
" Shivanya?" He asked, confused.
He was ready and he looked freaking handsome!
" Not now Abhimanyu, I'll tell you everything later. Let me get ready for now." I said.
He sighed.
" Fine. Be quick." He said, tucking the loose hair strand on my face to the back of my ear.
" Make way." I said, meekly.
" On second thoughts..." He said and picked me up, bridal style.
I gasped and the cheque fell from my bag.
" Abhimanyu....what are you up to!! And my cheque!" I shrieked.
" I am carrying you to our room." He said.
" I am perfectly capable of walking the the room. Thank you so much." I said hopping from his hold and bent to pick the cheque up but he beat me to it.

" Woah! A cheque worth rupees one crore! You must have won a very high profile case." He said, handing it over to me.
" Yeah....a murder case. The trial ended today that's why I am late." I replied and started walking in the room.
" Congratulations Shivanya." He said, I looked back and offered him a smile.
I immediately went in the washroom to change into my lehenga and came out.
Abhimanyu who was standing next to the door had an eyebrow raised.
" What?" I questioned.
" You look insanely beautiful." He said, walking closer to me and I stepped back.
" Why do you always step beck when I come to you?" He asked.
" Because you come so close." I said meekly.
" I hope you know that I am your husband and I am much more entitled than just coming close to you." He said, huskily.
" Actually....you are not my husband right now. You will be my husband soon." I said, finding the loophole.
He smirked.
" Legally speaking, as you like, we are man and wife Mrs. Abhimanyu Singhania." He said, sinking his neck in the nape of my neck.
" Abhimanyu! I told you that we are going old school." I said, pushing him back.
He looked like a child who was denied his candy. Almost adorable.
" Now go and stand or sit there and let me get ready. It's already 6:15!" I exclaimed.
He sulked further but did as he was told.
I quickly wore the ornaments and did a little make up, before bending down to wear my stilettos.
" Allow me, m'lady." Abhimanyu said, taking them in his hands and sitting on his one knee.
" No Abhimanyu! I can do it" I said, immediately taking my feet back.
" Stop being so uptight and let me do it." He said and grabbed my right foot, keeping it on his lower thigh.
" Now I feel like Cinderella!" I exclaimed.
" That was the intention." He said, doing what he started.
" Thank you." I said, shyly looking at my feet as he was done.
He said nothing, just pecked my cheek, leaving me red like a cherry!
My phone rang. It was maa.
" Shivanya, have you both started? We don't want to miss the muhurat." He said.
" Yes maa....we are just leaving." I said. Abhimanyu was quick to grab the car keys and I grabbed mine.
" Soon beta. Sahil is getting restless here. He wants to meet both of you." She said and we hung up.
" Shivanya, I am driving both of us." Abhimanyu said.
" But my car?" I asked.
" I will make sure that it reached your house tomorrow morning." He replied. I nodded and sat in the car.
We fell in comfortable silence.
" Aditi di. I need your blessings today and I want you to be with me. I am nervous and you know that I only accept that I am nervous when you are around because you had so many ways to cheer me up!" I thought, smiling to myself.
Suddenly, Ajeeb dasatan hai yeh started playing on the radio. The only old song that I liked! It used to calm me down.
" I know that you are nervous. You don't have to be. We are already married." Abhimanyu said.
" Yeah, but that marriage was a compromise. Everything is happening for real right now." I confessed.
" Shivanya, I am going to take care of you." He said.
I looked at him. I wanted to say something sarcastic but nothing came out. Instead I found myself thanking him.
He gave me a brief smile. We were there soon. It was 7:15.
" Finally both of you are here.!" Sahil exclaimed as he came running to Abhimanyu and hugged him. He picked him up.
" Mumma, you look so so so so so pretty!" Sahil said, pecking my cheek from Abhimanyu's arms.
" Thank you baby. You look like a little prince too." I said, kissing him back.
" Papa, don't you own anything except for these suits?" Sahil asked Abhimanyu smartly and I burst out laughing.
" I agree Sahil!" I said and he gave high five to each other.
" Okay enough, stop making fun of my son and let's go inside." Maa said.
We nodded and walked in.
Soon rings were exchanged and we were talking to the guests.
" Congratulations Shivanya for your engagement and the case!" Vedansh said as we greeted each other.
" Thank you so much Vedansh. Who is this beautiful lady next to you?" I asked.
" Tahira, my fiance." He said.
We greeted each other.
" Abhimanyu, this is Vedansh from my office. We are friends." I said as Abhmanyu walked up to me.
Both of them shook hands and soon it was time for dinner.
" Shivi, let's go for dinner beta." Mumma said, walking towards us.
I nodded and we went to the table where all the immediate family was sitting.
Then a chain started. Abhimanyu was asked to feed me a morsel or two while I was making Sahil eat.
He obliged and I took a few bites from his hands before I started eating myself. Suddenly, Abhimanyu held my left hand which was under the table while I was eating with right. Sahil had ran off playing with the other kids.
" Abhimanyu, what are you doing? Leave my hand! Everyone is here!" I exclaimed.
" So what Shivanya, I am holding my wife's hand. The problem would have been if I had held someone's wife's hand." I said, smirking.
I did not say a word and continued eating.
" Bhai, now you can leave bhabhi's hand. She will not run away." Diya taunted in front of everyone.
" I don't wish to leave her hand Diya, is there something you want to do about it?" He said, smirking again.
The nerve of this man! Does he not feel shy!?
The heat rushed to my cheeks and I tried to untangle my hand again but to no avail.
" I have not held this hand to leave it." He whispered into my ears when no one was looking.
I looked at him and then looked down shyly.
" Beautiful." He said and I blushed further.
Soon, the party was done and it was time to go home.
" I'll see you very soon Shivanya." Abhimanyu said to me when no one was around.
Sahil came running to us.
" Mumma, I am going with dadaji, dadi and papa today. I will miss you." He said.
" Aww..my baby. Mumma will miss you too but we will meet tomorrow." I assured him and he kissed my cheek.
I did the same and then we started for home.
By the time I was done changing into my night suit, it was already 12. I went down for water where everyone was present.
" I won the case today." I said, showing the cheque to them.
" I am proud of you doll." Papa said, hugging me.
I had decided, I was going to make a large vacation home so that all family could spend quality time there as a change!

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
