《The Lost One》Chapter 20

The first hour was silent except for the GPS.

"Richard, if you're good with it I'll open the mind-link to the others they want to ask some questions?"

A grunt was the only response from the back seat, although Kaiden saw Olivia perk up in the rearview mirror at this.

"Aus, Blair, Clay I'm going to open the link so you guys can listen into Richard, you have the drive to ask whatever questions you want. Don't make me regret this either!" He said to his men in the vehicle behind them through the link.

"Okay first ask him what makes them so different, the royals I mean, like what can they do? Why are they so special?" Austin asked he seemed the most curious about all of this.

Kaiden rolled his eyes but relayed the question anyway.

"Different? Hmm I guess you could call them that" Richard mused as if he had never thought of it in such a term, "It isn't so much that they are different from us, well they are but it is more that we are different from them. They are the pure ones, their blood is the pure blood of the werewolf gene. We all carry less pure or diluted forms of it. The King was the oldest and first of our kind. It is from him that all of us descended."

"What!? So are we all related to them?" Blair asked disgusted.

"No the King only had one child the Crown Prince. And his mate was human, he found her only 300 years after he was first created. But one of the powers or abilities of the royal line because of their pure blood is that they are the only werewolves able to create new weres." Richard said nonchalantly.

Kaiden grimaced as shouting from the other car filled his head as they hurled questions at him.

"You need to explain Richard." Was all he said.

"We call them Silverbloods. It refers not only to the Royal pack but to the crown themselves, those in their pack will absorb some of their traits as will those who make oaths tying themselves to them, like the Guardians and the Warriors. But some of these traits are ever only given or are only ever tied to the Blood themselves, to their actual blood. It is what separates us from them. One of these distinctions is that their blood lets them create werewolves. It also keeps them from aging, gives them increased speed, strength, and then some other things which I will not speak of."

"Why not?" This time it was Olivia who spoke up.

"Some secrets of the Royals are meant to be kept secrets. Some are only kept within the pack and others were known only by the Royal Household itself. They are not for your ears, at least not yet." Richard answered cryptically before continuing, "Their blood contains silver. It is where their name comes from, again I don't know all of it, how it exactly works or why. I just know it is what aids in their abilities and is manifested through their hair, eye, and wolf colorings."

"What color wolf does she have?" Olivia asked.

"I've never seen it." Was all he said on the matter, but Kaiden felt that he knew more than he was saying but he let it go for now.

"So she can make others?" Clay demanded.

"Yes in theory. Her bite has the ability to carry in it the silver along with the gene of the wolf. The silver is meant to break it down, venom begins to kill the host while the wolf gene is then able to infiltrate and trigger the change. It is how the King first started the Werewolf population. Those he created were the strongest, their descendants have become the Alpha's and Beta's of today. The closer a wolf's ancestry is to that of the Royal line the stronger the wolf. He stopped creating them however when the first war broke out amongst our kind. The destruction was said to have nearly destroyed him, the violence and absolute lack of respect for life in those he had created broke him. He spent the next century hunting down every wolf that had been a part of it. He was ruthless stalking them to the ends of the known world killing every last one of them with the first of the Guardians and Warriors at his sides. After that he created the first pack pulling the remaining wolves together and binding them to himself, vowing to protect his people and humans from the violent tendencies of the werewolves he had made. He was astounded when the oaths created the mind-link, pack loyalty and triggered the mate-principal. Those that refused to accept his rule became the first rogues, shunned from the protection not only of the crown itself but of the oaths that would allow them to hang on to their humanity. It is why rogues are so vicious and inhumane still today. They lack the binds of pack and loyalty that the King created. He ruled the were population for the next century and half alone until he finally met his own mate. The Queen became one of the last werewolves ever created."

"Wait hold up! They're immortal?" Austin asked in astonishment.

Richard chuckled from the back seat, "Yes. Eventually they stop aging. One of the reasons Aislinn has always looked so young. It was different for each of them, The King looked like he was in his early 40s the Queen stayed frozen at the age she was changed at 36. The Prince stopped earlier then his father although he was younger as well, born in 1802 he appeared no more than 29. Those with oaths and bonds will share this trait."

"You won't age?" Olivia asked in disbelief and wonder.

"Nope. Not so long as I hold the oaths of the Guardian it is a part of the marks, designed to keep those close to them strong and allow those who are loyal to stand at their sides as long as they do. Others in the pack would feel the effects to lesser degrees. The Royal pack felt it the most of course, resulting in extremely slow aging. Most pack members usually lived for two to three centuries. While those in the other packs feel the effects to a much lesser extent, slower but not stopped aging. Alpha's looking 40 at 65 and such. Again the closer the bloodline the stronger the trait."

"Next question, do we have to bow? And what are we supposed to call her?" Austin was pushing his luck by the growl that Richard let out when Kaiden relayed the question.

"Yes." Richard ground out clearly not amused.

"Richard" Aislinn's voice snapped from the front seat for the first time. Kaiden hadn't thought she had been paying attention as she had been staring absently out the window the entire time. Her eyes and body giving no indication that a conversation about her was going on around her.

He let out a huff of air in annoyance at the reprimand. "They owe you respect."

"Richard"

"Fine. No you do not need to bow. Until Aislinn speaks the oath of the Crown, the oath that would officially claim her the throne, that of the Corona Lupus for herself and snaps the bonds that her grandfather created to herself then she technically is not Queen." He answered although his voice spoke that he was distinctly unhappy with what he was having to admit. "As of now she holds her original title Princess along with the inherited title from her father of Heres or Heir. Her official title would be as of now Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess..."

"Richard!" The cool metallic voice snapped again from the front seat.

"I wasn't going to say it Princess."

In response she merely let out a low growl of annoyance.

"Say what?" Olivia asked eagerly, her uneasiness from this morning having finally dissipated replaced by a growing curiosity and simple excitement.

"Her true name." Richard said unhappily.

"Oh." Olivia said.

"Why doesn't she want us to know?" Kaiden was to distracted wondering the same thing to pay attention to who in the rear car had asked the question in his mind.

"Off limits." Richard said shutting down any further talk of Aislinn's true name. "As for how to address her simply call her what you will, I doubt she will accept anything else at the moment she seems to have kept her stubborn streak through the years."

"You knew her before?" Kaiden asked quietly not wanting to upset her with his question but curious to hear about his mate when she was a child. To hear anything about her life before it was destroyed, a time when she was happy and free.

"Personally? Unfortunately, no I did not." Richard said. Kaiden's hopes dashed instantly.

"She was well guarded kept away from the majority of the court and pack for security reasons, but I knew of her. You couldn't not. Everyone, even if they had never seen her was in love with her, obsessed with 'Their Princess'. I was part of her father's security team, training with my own father. Each member of the Royal family and the key members of the court had individual Guardians as well as Warriors appointed just to their safety. She though, her safety was the absolute highest priority of the entire court and pack from the very moment she was conceived and only the most trusted and loyal wolves were even allowed to know who her security teams were let alone where she was or what she did. But even still the stories managed to trickle out." As he remembered he let out a laugh.

Looking at Olivia's quirked eyebrows he let out another deep chuckle, "She was an absolute terror." He got out chuckling at the look of surprise at his words.

"Seriously?" Kaiden asked.

"Oh god yes! The stories about her even just as a toddler were legendary. She had the entire palace wrapped around her finger and she knew it. Ran her poor nannies and Guardians into the ground trying to keep up with her. Of course to the Prince and Princess she could do no wrong and the King doted on her, she was their world. Which only made her worse, she could get away with murder! Had grown seasoned wolves running around like chickens! When she was four she decided that her favorite color was purple and made her father have all of them dye their wolves purple because she didn't like the other colors."

"No way!?" Olivia asked incredulously.

"Oh yes!" Richard said laughing.

"But they didn't actually do it, right?" Kaiden asked looking at his mate trying to imagine her like that, and finding it impossible.

"Are you joking? Of course they did. Barely even made a grumble about it from what I heard too. Although they did stop running with the others for a few weeks until she decided she hated the color purple again." Shaking his head at the memory of the large purple wolves he had caught sight of once as they had been patrolling around a secluded pasture.

Kaiden couldn't help himself he let out his own laugh picturing it. Soon the other car and Olivia had all joined, imagining hardened and imposing wolves like Richard, all easily agreeing to dye their wolves purple for a tiny four year old girl.

"I can't believe they would do that!" Olivia finally managed to choke out.

"Believe it and I highly doubt that was the worse she had them do either. I remember once maybe a few months after that suddenly the court went into an uproar. Never did find out what exactly happened but it was rumored the entire kitchen had to be gutted. All two stories, then the king suspiciously had his beta sent away to go stay with the council for a few weeks right around the same time. Could never get it out of anyone what she actually did to him or what he did her."

The cars fell silent as they all considered the stories. It was so strange the way he spoke of her, the life and person she had been before so different to who they knew now. Light incredulous laughter filtered between the cars and mind-link. All wondering what had happened to the young princess, their internal musings were cut short however.

"He wouldn't let me have any more sweets." Aislinn's monotone voice suddenly spoke up.

"Huh?" Kaiden gaped at her.

"Uncle Robert, he said I couldn't have any more sweets. He was watching me for my father for a few days, he hid all of them on me. I was very displeased. Plus then he ordered all the staff to refuse to give me anymore or even to bake me any." Aislinn explained calmly.

"I knew it was you!" Richard roared. "We had to get food catered in for weeks! I couldn't look at fast food for months after that!"

"What did you do to him?" Olivia asked.

Aislinn simply shrugged her shoulders, "Only what he deserved, I just wanted a simple cookie after all. It was his own fault."

"I told you she was a terror!" Richard barked.

Kaiden couldn't help his grin even if it made him look like a fool. He had just had an almost normal conversation with his mate. Could they be making progress?
