《Broken | completed》Chapter 22

Matthew cried for days on end, and it broke my heart. Unfortunately, I couldn't really do anything to comfort him. Today, his endless crying stopped and I noticed he was just completely silent. He wouldn't speak to me and he refused to drink or eat which worried me a lot.
I didn't know what to do and Kaden wasn't around because he was so adamant on finding out what Lucien was up to. For some reason, he didn't believe the story that Lucien had told us, but I found it to be quite legit. I didn't see anything wrong with it, and if I looked carefully I could actually see some resemblance between him and mum. It was weird that I had been face-to-face with my half-brother, but then again it was really cool.
I left Matthew in his room and walked up the stairs to Kaden's office where he was most of the time since we came back from seeing Lucien. I knocked on the door and heard a low 'come in'. I walked in and he looked up, a grin emerging on his face. "Hey, love," he said, looking happy as ever. Aw. He stands up and moves around from his desk, making his way towards me and enveloping me into a hug. "How are you? How's Matthew?"
"Not good," I reply back, "he's stopped crying but now he won't eat or speak or do anything. I don't know what to do, Kaden," I whispered, tears brimming at my eyes. He kissed my forehead gently and told me not to worry, but that wasn't going to help. I was obviously going to worry! How can I not? "That won't help, I can't help but worry! He's only two and he's already lost everything!"
"I'm sorry but we really can't do much but stand by his side. It isn't like we can magically make them alive or take away his pain and suffering. He's two, yes, but he's got to go through some sort of grief and he will get over it. I know, it's difficult. But he will have us, and the pack, by his side. He will get through this. He won't ever forget them, but he will learn to accept that they are gone. It sounds harsh, yes, but it's the truth. Unfortunately, Matthew is going through this at a very young age and there's also the fact he had seen them die in that life-like dream. Love, I know you're worried and so am I, but you have to just be patient and stand by him. Okay?" I let his words sink in and nodded my head slowly. He was definitely right, but I really did wish I could do something to stop his pain right away. I hate to see him suffering, and then it's also affecting his health too! He's two. Poor guy..

"You're right," I sigh out and I see him smile a little. But it wasn't anything happy, it was a sad smile. "I better go and see him, do you want to come with?"
"Sure, why not. Later on I want to take you out, though," he tells me and I ask him where, to which he says for dinner. I agree, knowing it was probably a date. Even if it wasn't, I would've said yes anyway because we haven't spent so much time together. I did miss him and it was odd because ever since he marked me, I've been feeling the need to be closer to him all the time. It was an annoying feeling, but I knew he felt the same way. Mind you, he always wants to be with me whether or not he's marked me.
We went and saw Matthew who was just sitting on his bed sucking his thumb. He was staring into mid-space, not even blinking. "Man coming," he says, still staring into mid-space.
"Man? What man?" Kaden asks immediately, jumping into Matthew's sight and kneeling down in front of him.
"He pale," he simply says, shrugging his little shoulders.
"Pale? The only pale person we really know is-" Kaden stopped speaking and his eyes glazed over, "-Lucien is here." He takes my arm and leads the both of us downstairs, leaving Matthew behind in his room. "What the hell are you doing here?" Kaden growls out.
"Wow, what a lovely welcome brother-in-law. Hello, Nova. How are you?" he asks me and I reply, telling him I was fine. I also asked him how he was. "Oh, I am great."
"Why are you here?" Kaden asks again, narrowing his eyes at Lucien.
"I've come to see Nova's father, actually. So I suggest you let me go see him." Oh yeah, that's another thing. Kaden refused to let my dad go and kept him prisoner. He kept him locked up with barely any food. I felt sorry, but then again I really didn't. I was having so many mixed emotions about it all. "And you're coming with, Nova."
"So am I," Kaden announces and Lucien laughs.
"Sorry, but this is a family matter." Lucien walks past Kaden, taking my hand and leading me to where the basement was. How does he know? We got to the basement and the cells where my dad was being held. We entered it, after I had to enter a code of some sort. "Hello, there."

My dad looked up, narrowing his eyes at Lucien and I. "Who are you?" he asks to Lucien. Lucien, again, laughs.
"I suppose you could say that I am Nova's half brother. Well I say suppose, but I am her half brother. So, you, her father, how are you?" It baffled me as to why he was asking how he was seeing as he seemed to have quite a lot of hatred for my dad, but I as also confused as to why I had to be here.
"Half brother? You're that vamp offspring she had. Oh, the illegitimate child?"
"If I was the illegitimate child, why am I now King? Answer me that, mutt."
"What do you want? Why are you here?" Lucien walked up to my dad, towering over him. Suddenly, it all happened in a blur. My dad was being lifted and held against the wall by Lucien. When I mean that, I mean Lucien was practically choking my dad. Welp.
"Lucien-"
"No, Nova," he says, cutting me off. "I know what you did to her, and I know what the whole pack did to her. Fortunately for you, I never knew of her pack but now I know what you have done. Believe me, mutt, you're going to pay. And so will everyone else. Maybe you should go warn them, huh? Nah, surprises are better don't you think?" My dad was losing his strength and I could see the life draining out of him. I mean, I suppose it didn't help that he was already weak, right?
Lucien let him go and my dad fell to the ground, taking in deep breathes. "You're a monster," he wheezes out, making Lucien chuckle.
"No, no, I think you are the monster." Lucien turned to me with a smirk and I saw his fangs elongating. He turned back to my dad, leant down, and plunged his fangs into him. My dad let out a scream, and even I did. I wasn't expecting it at all. Lucien was killing him.
Instantly, Kaden came to my side and pulled me away from the scene.
Once we were upstairs, he pulled me into a hug and mumbled sweet nothings in my ear. "It's okay, love, nothing to worry about." Just then, Lucien appeared. "What the-"
"Sorry, I hadn't fed in a while. He was there, so I thought why not? I mean, I'm definitely not going to feed on either of you. Don't worry, he's still alive. Weak, but alive." I let out a sigh of relief but I didn't know why. Why did part of me still want my dad alive? He's still your dad, Ariella told me, and even though he was so bad to you, he was still the only family you had.
But now have Lucien and even Kaden, surely that's my only family now? I don't need dad, he was awful to me. Why do I still care?
Because, she started off, you're a caring person. The world needs more of you.
"Did you have to do that in front of her, though?" Kaden growls out. Wow, Lucien's presence always makes Kaden really angry.. Huh, well then.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. But I must be off. Oh, and you might wanna check on that kid. Seems to me he's having another nightmare whilst awake- or had another one," and with that, Lucien was off leaving me running up to Matthew's room. Matthew was sat up on his bed, eyes wide.
"Matthew, are you okay?"
"Vampy, you, man." He saw. "Vampy feed on man." Is he psychic or what?
"It's okay, shh," I hug him and he hugs back.
"Luna?"
"Yes, Matthew?"
"Food please?" he asks with a small smile on his face.
"Of course!" At least he's wanting to eat now..phew.
