《Broken | completed》Chapter 16

"Now the other foot," I mumble and he takes hold of my other foot and massages it. In all honesty, I really wasn't serious about a back or foot rub. But, he insisted. I wasn't going to complain, but I even told him I forgave him and he didn't have to. He still wanted to. I suppose he still felt bad.

Currently, Matthew was taking a nap on our bed. He had his thumb in his mouth and looked peaceful. I was sitting on the edge of the bed as well as Kaden. Luckily, Matthew didn't take up much room.

We weren't sure when Matthew's mum was coming back, but I wasn't bothered. Looking after him was great. I'd never experienced this before as I was pretty much isolated from my whole pack, but it was amazing to experience babysitting! I felt as if I was doing a good job. I mean, I really hope I am.

Matthew stirred in his sleep and began mumbling words which were not audible. He then shot up, crying his eyes out. I wasn't the one who rushed to his side though, it was Kaden. "What's wrong?" he asks as he tries to calm Matthew down.

"Nightmare," he sobbed out and I made my way to his side. I pull him in for a hug and he holds onto me for dear life. That must've been a bad one. "Mummy, daddy and other people died!" Definitely a bad one.

"Don't worry, little guy, they're still here. It was just a nightmare, okay? Here, how about we go see them, yeah?" Kaden offers and Matthew calms his crying down. He looks at Kaden with big wet eyes and a small smile forms on his face.

"Mummy?" Kaden nods his head and takes Matthew in his arms. He cradles him like a baby and I awe at the sight. Matthew snuggles into Kaden's arms and puts his thumb in his mouth. Kaden motions for me to follow.

We soon arrive at where Matthew's parents were. We were told what room they'd be in and Matthew was getting more and more excited. However, he was slightly scared by the amount of unknown people there were. Hell, even I was feeling a bit nervous. "You go in and get his mum, bring her out," Kaden tells me and I nod my head. I walk into the room, knocking on the door lightly. When I walk into the room, I freeze. The wind was knocked out of me and I struggled to breath. I backed out of the room slowly and bump into Kaden. "What's wrong?" he asks, but I couldn't form any words. I was shocked, possibly in shock. "Love?" He frowns at me and hands Matthew to a nearby nurse, figuring I probably wasn't in the right state to hold him. He walks into the room and I hear a thunderous growl. He's mad. He comes storming out, his eyes flaring with red. "Who the hell has been in there?" he growls out to the nurses.

I could see Matthew get frightened and I made my way to him, snapping out of my haze. I take him out of the nurse's arms and pull him towards me, mumbling comforting words. "What happening?" he whispered. I didn't answer.

"N-no one, A-Alpha," one nurse replied, shaking in fear. "J-just the w-wife," she adds.

"This hospital is on lockdown, make sure all the patients are I'm a secured room and no one gets in or out aside from me." He goes behind a desk and presses something. The whole hospital starts flashing in red and loud noises surround us. Woah, what the hell? He turns to me, "Stay with him and stay here," he then leans down and kisses my forehead.

"Kaden-"

"I'll be back," he quickly says and runs off. He goes into different hospital rooms and coming out angrier and angrier. He storms back towards us. His features soften as he looks to Matthew. "Matthew, how many people died in your dream?"

"Kaden!" I scold, because that's not the type of thing you ask a little boy. Or is it?

"I need to know," he tells me, "so Matthew, can you tell me?"

Matthew looks up at Kaden and blinks. "Mummy and daddy, and-" he closes his eyes and his lips move as he silently counted, "-eight more," he replies.

"Kaden, why do you need to know?"

"There's eight other people dead," he whispers to me after covering Matthew's ears. "Maybe his dream wasn't such a dream. Now, I've got to go. I'll be back." With that, he runs off again.

"Thirsty," Matthew mumbles. I look to a nurse and call her over.

"Do you have any drinks? He's, um, thirsty," I ask her and she nods her head. She rushes off and soon comes back with a little sippy cup filled with orange juice. He drinks his drink as I sit the both of us down on one of the waiting chairs.

"Mummy and daddy?" he asks and I mentally cry out, not knowing what to tell him.

"Not yet," I mutter. He shrugs his shoulders and continues to drink his drink. After what seemed like forever, Kaden came back. It had been a good few hours and Matthew had fallen back asleep, his head resting on my lap. I had my head rested against the wall and had almost fallen asleep.

"Come on, we're going home," he mutters. He picks Matthew up and cradles him again, careful not to wake him. I jump up from my seat and follow him. Throughout the whole way back, he never said a word. He was lost in his own little world. After we put Matthew on the couch and a blanket over him, Kaden pulled me towards the bed. I was going to argue and ask why we didn't put Matthew on the bed, but I suppose it was because Kaden wanted to rest on it.

"What happened?" I ask after a few minutes of silence.

"We searched the perimeter. Nothing. We didn't find anything, not even a scent. I've got someone to clear up the bodies, and we'll have funerals for them. Sadly, we will have to tell Matthew. But, there's something about him. We need to find out more about his dream," he explains and I frown.

"He's two, he can't explain it as well as we would be able to."

"I know, but his dream could've been the real thing and we need to know if there was anything other than dead bodies that he saw."

"Pretty gruesome for him, I don't think he will want to relive it," I say but Kaden says that there's no other way. He was furious that pack members had been killed without his knowledge, or anyone's knowledge.

"You stay here with him and I'll go make us some food, it's been a long day." He kisses my forehead again and gets off the bed, heading out the room. I huff, and sigh. Today sure is one crazy day.

Matthew started stirring again in his lip. He shot up. "Teddy," he mumbled and ran off of the couch. I quickly ran after him, following him. He opened a door and walked in, grabbing hold of a teddy bear with its head ripped off. "Teddy," he pouted, hugging the two pieces of the bear. I sniff the air, hoping to catch a scent. But I don't.

"Matthew, come on," I take his hand and lead him downstairs. "They were here," I tell Kaden and he stares at me with wide eyes. His eyes travel down to the teddy bear with its head ripped off. He notices something and takes out a piece of paper out of the neck.

It read: Is she really worth the safety of your pack?
