《Kidnapped (Book 1)》Isolation

The prison walls shook around Kyle, echoing of other criminals filled his ears. The stench of sweat and decay surrounded him. Kyle had been in many prisons before so this was nothing new to him. He actually didn't mind the loud, dirty environment. This would give him plenty of time to think and plan. Think and plan. A smile appeared on his face as he began to think and plan. Everything would work out, he guaranteed it. He sat quietly in his tiny cell that consisted of a cot and a toilet. This would be temporary until they decided to move him to a maximum security prison.

"Hey! Newbie, whatcha in for?" A prisoner yelled at Kyle, but he ignored him.

"Yo asshole, are ya deaf?" Another shouted.

Kyle was good at ignoring people so this was a piece of cake and frankly, he didn't give a shit about anyone here but himself. What he told Robbins about not being scared anymore was true. Nothing scared him anymore, no even these wimps they call prisoners. There was no need to talk to petty criminals that were most likely in here for stealing a pack of beer or robbing an old lady walking down the street. Where he was going, he would meet people more like him and who hopefully, understood his situation.

Kyle heard footsteps coming and by the sound on the steps, he guessed that the person named Dole. Even when he was caught, Kyle memorized the sounds of how Dole walked. Kyle hadn't even met Dole when Kyle was a police officer, so he must have been new on the force; he may be even replacing Kyle's spot. He knew that Dole was assigned to be his escort to his new home. That's probably where they would be going right now. Kyle was relieved, he was already sick of this place. He sat back in his bed and listened to the yelling of his nearby prison mates and the increasing loudness of the footsteps. As Kyle expected, Officer Dole appeared in front of his cell.

"Kyle, it's time to go." He announced, but Kyle already knew that.

"Aren't you supposed to call me by my prison number?" Kyle asked.

"Would you like me to degrade you like that? I mean I will if you want?" Dole asked as he got a set of keys out from his pocket.

"Doesn't matter to me. Let me ask ya something, are you replacing me on the force?" Kyle asked grinning, knowing that the other inmates would hear that he was a cop.

"Eh, you a cop!" The prison next to Kyle spat.

Kyle was cuffed and as about to leave with Dole when he said, "Was a cop."

He smiled at the prisoner who wouldn't see Kyle ever again but the look on the prisoner's face told Kyle that he would never forget his face, not that he was scared. Kyle could easily take on that twig. The two of them walked down the hall of inmates who screamed obscenity at the two men.

"So buddy, how ya been?" Kyle asked, seeing Dole frown.

"Quit talking." Dole demanded.

"I'm truly hurt. I'm just trying to make small talk." Kyle proudly announced.

When Dole didn't say anything, Kyle added, "Aren't you wondering if I'm upset of the death of my long lost friend, Marcus?"

Office Dole refused to answer his question. Kyle wanted to make him talk, even if it was to tell Kyle to quit talking. Kyle guessed that Dole wanted to know the answers to his questions but was too stubborn to reply to Kyle. He was excited to mess with all of the police officers who wanted to know answers to questions only Kyle could know. This was just the beginning for Kyle. They could put him in the farthest and most secure prison in the world and yet, they would still hear of Kyle Olive. He would never disappear. Even when they lowered Kyle into his grave, there would still be unanswered questions that would linger in the minds of the people in Colorado.

"You will be transported to the Denver Maximum Security Prison where you will await your trial date." Dole answered.

"Great, I love Denver." Kyle replied enthusiastically.

The cold, metal handcuffs clenched to Kyle's wrists and ankles as he was forced into a transportation van. He was locked in the back of the van and knew from the past of being a cop, that you can't escape these types of vans. There was a small window that was about as big as a soccer ball with metal bars covering it, this allowed little light into the van so that it wasn't pitch dark. With light or without, Kyle didn't really care. The only thing in this world that he cared about was Kelly and he would get back to her, no matter what.

He pictured her long blonde hair and her bright blue eyes that never failed to make him smile. He did have to admit that he felt bad for shooting her but she needed to know that he was in charge, a type of tough love. He knew she would forgive him for that eventually. He already missed having her tiny body in his arms. But the thought of returning to her and being together forever would get him through the tough times in prison. He had something to look forward too.

After about an hour drive, Kyle looked out the small window to see the prison he was going to be staying at. He was actually somewhat excited to be here, maybe he could learn a few things from the other inmates, possibly get some connections. The jail was surrounded with a barb-wired fence that was almost a story high. There were four guard posts on each corner of the jail's fence. The two-story building was about the size of a neighborhood or two. This was one of the largest prisons in Colorado. It was also where the deadliest prisoners are sent to. He felt honored to be apart of this population.

The van pulled to the entrance of the prison and Kyle was escorted into the prison. Guards were stationed at the main doors. Kyle smiled at them but they didn't even seem to notice him. There was a tall, thick man waiting for them as soon as they entered. He was the warden because o the big white words stuck out on his navy blue uniform. Kyle wondered why he would want to stick out to be the warden because that's who he would kill first if he ever broke out of here. Then again I'm sure everyone here knew who the warden was since he is the most hated guy in the building.

"Ah, Kyle Olive. I have heard a lot about you." He snarled, glaring up and down at Kyle, sizing him up.

"Glad I'm famous here already." Kyle said smiling.

"Officer, my men will take him to his cell." The warden said as he handed Officer Dole some paperwork to fill out.

"Okay, but he must be kept in isolation. No contact with any other prisoners until after his trial." Officer Dole demanded.

"Alright, we'll go talk in my office for a little bit." The warden said to Dole.

"See ya around Dole." Kyle said grinning as two guards grabbed his arms and forced him forward.

Kyle was taken upstairs and down several halls before coming to an all white hallway with about thirty individual rooms that were boxed in. Kyle made a mental map of the prison in his mind, knowing he wouldn't forget a single detail, even only seeing the place once. His cell number was 872, so he was prisoner 872. That was supposed to be degrading but honestly, it had no effect on Kyle.

The guards opened the door and took the handcuffs off him and forced him into the claustrophobic room. The room was all white and was an eight by six feet room with a toilet and bed. Everything was bolted into the ground. The door had a small window for others to look in and see him.

Isolation was just beginning but wouldn't last long. His trial would be quick because there was so much evidence on Kyle, it wasn't even funny. There wasn't a need for a trial though, he would happily plead guilty eventually but he wanted to see Kelly again so until then, he would plead not guilty so that the trial would have to happen. He would get life in prison, with no parole and probably the death penalty. After everything he did, there was no way he would get any less, not that he cared about his sentencing.

Kyle walked over to his bed and sat quietly on it. The bed was as hard as a rock but that didn't bother Kyle, he had slept on much worse before. This was his new life and he wouldn't let these little things change how he thought about his new life. Kyle did pushups, sit-ups, and jogging in place so that he would stay in shape. He had to be ready for what was to come and he was certain that it would be successful. The rest of his day would consist of sleeping, eating and more working out. This was the end of this period of Kyle's life but this just opened up a brand new beginning for Kyle and he was definitely going to take advantage of that.
