《A beautiful mistake》44

The D-Day, what every woman would live to remember as long as she lived, that is their wedding, no matter the number of divorces she had gone through.

The thought of the church bells, a whole congregation of people watching her take the vows, the one time everyone would like her just because she had some shiny glossy lipstick and a nice gown white as snow seemed too overwhelming. And the whole- bride walking in slow motion thing to the aisle-terrified the shit out of her which was ironic because being on the spotlight was her thing both literally and metaphorically.

But the best of all this, was that at the end of the day, she was going to get married to her Tequila. The funny, goofy, spoilt, honest and the most caring guy she had met. She imagined walking down the aisle her bouquet of flowers clutched in her hands, her hand held high, her favorite song This Town by Niall Horan being sung in tune and all while she stared through her veil at the hunk of a man eagerly waiting for her to be his.

But wouldn't people start gossiping? Where was the family of the bride? Why had no one from the bride's family shown up?

And right there, right then she would be obliged to tell everyone that her family disowned her. That her family thought of her as a disgrace and less of a family member. But even as she thought about it, if it wasn't for her job as a hooker, she would have never met the guy whom she splashed tequila on. The guy who appeared just when her sister's death shook her to the core and the sudden disappearance of her brother Leonardo Grayson broke her heart and alienated her family.

Kevin Cervantes had loved her despite knowing what her work was. He had shown full support when she decided to reveal to her family where she got her money from all those years. He had been with her even when she became too clingy, overbearing and distant. And no matter what stereotypes said, love was never judgy, it happened to anyone be it poor or rich, be it sick or healthy, be it among righteous people or sinful ones.

"Hey, I know that look,"Liz, her best friend pointed staring at Chloe from where she sat.

"What look?" Chloe questioned staying put while the makeup artists did the last finishing touches.

"The look every bride has before her wedding. 'Am I doing the right thing? Does he love me?' And to answer your questions like the bestie I am 'Yes you are doing the right thing and yes Tequila loves you so much that it grosses me out everytime I see him stare at you like a freaking meal"

"Tequila?" And her soon to be sister in law, Mikaella questioned straightening her dress for the umpteenth time despite how gorgeous she looked with her raised ponytail, defined cheekbones and a figure most men would find swoon worthy.

"Right. She doesn't know? Well it's a long story that involves a whole bottle of tequila being poured on your brother in law, hence the nickname Tequila. Her Tequila"

And Mikaella arched a brow staring at Chloe in the vanity mirror.

"What? I didn't know his name back then so I went with what I got"

And the other bridesmaids chuckled each taking their little bouquet from the L couch in the large hotel room they were in. The bride couldn't afford to run late so with the makeup artists and the hair stylists done, the girls helped Chloe stand up without ruining or stepping on her floor length white dress.

Ding. Dong. The doorbell rang and all women stood alert.

"Joey get the door,"Liz shouted and Joey reluctantly opened the door.

"Who's there? Am I running late?" Chloe panicked.

"Deep breaths, Chloe. Deep breaths everything is fine,"Mikaella assured.

"Huh... someone left this at the door. Has your name on it,"Joey said carrying the large purple gift onto the bed.

"What if it's from him? A little momento before the wedding," Chloe asked taking small careful steps to where the gift lay.

"You might as well open it, we all want to see if there's a ruby necklace, a sexy negligee from Tequila for the honeymoon night or even maybe glass slippers?"

"Okay..."Chloe bent a little unwrapping the gift box one step at a time and every woman including the hair stylists eagerly awaited to see what lay inside.

The gift box had already been unwrapped and in all the few hours she had been there watching Chloe get her hair done and her makeup, sadness suddenly engulfed her remembering that she too was a bride. A bride who thought that once she stood beside the priest, the whole process of saying 'I do' would be quick in a jiffy and she would be in Hawaii having the time of her life in a beach resort for her honeymoon.

But the groom never showed, the wedding of her dreams never came to be and she got married in a little cafe just by putting her signature on a piece of paper. Was it jealousy she was feeling? No, Chloe was a good person who deserved a happy life with her Tequila.

Ugh, even saying Tequila somehow creeped her out and made her envious. How come Chloe had a nickname for her love while she and Roman didn't? The wrapping paper sealing the box fell off one by one until there was another box inside with something like a flashdrive on top.

The rest of the girls held hands squealing, one of them even said,

"It's going to be a slideshow of their cutest moments, I just know it"

Of course, she couldn't be wrong, what else would there be? Mikaella reasoned.

"Quick get me my laptop on the drawer,"Chloe almost cried with the woman who Mikaella now knew as Joey taking it fast to her.

"Ok let's see what lover boy is upto,"Liz chuckled and Mikaella took a good look at the laptop's screen practically biting her nails while she was at it.

They were all nervous and yet none of them was the bride but a bunch of nosy bridesmaids.

Mikaella's heart beat rapidly almost becoming afraid that everyone would hear her.

And when the flashdrive finally showed on Chloe's laptop, there was only one video. A video that without hesitation Chloe clicked.

The video started off foggy but became clearer over the past seconds recording. The first few seconds showed an empty road and a diner right across it and just before the women would conclude that the gift was sent to the wrong Chloe because it contained what seemed to have been caught by a hidden CCTV camera, the sound of a speeding car came from the left hitting the one coming up from the right without mercy.

And they all gasped, yet there were twenty minutes to go for the video to end and a lot to be revealed.

Ten minutes later, another car approached and a man walked out helping the driver from the speeding car out of the wreckage. The man from earlier walked to the other car watching the woman viciously bleed to death. The more they watched the video, the more everyone in the video became clearer.

They had switched the drivers, cleaned any evidence for them being there...and then left the scene like nothing happened.

Chloe knew who they were.

Mikaella knew who they were.

Practically everyone in the room knew those faces well.

And with a shrill cry, Chloe sobbed,"They killed my sister!"
