"How bad was it?"
"Well she yelled at me and hasn't spoken a word to me since we got home"
Don't! You do not get to say you were jealous. Roman, there's something called trust. Marcus is my friend. My friend! Say it with me 'F R I E N D' No! Don't apologize. You always do this. Today was supposed to be my day. My day of being with Chloe, getting to know her better but noo leave it to my husband to do what he does best. If you say sorry one more time, I swear I'll smack you and those bruises on your face will be the last thing to worry about.
He recalled her scoldings word by word. She was pissed, so much that the drive back home was silent. After the fight earlier, both Chloe and her friends as well as he, Mick and Marcus were banned from the store. Nonetheless, the bastard got what he deserved. Mikaella was angry at him for the moment but as time went by she would get over it, he at the moment was concerned about his family.
The idea of leaving LA crossed his mind but what would he tell Mick once she started asking questions? He had been restless since he found out that Ruby Grayson was Marcus' wife. The dude wanted revenge and he clearly wasn't going to back down until he got it.
"No wonder the tuna casserole was salty"
"Yeah I felt it too but I couldn't complain since she was in a mood,"Roman said stretching his legs on his son's bed.
"When she gets like this, the best thing is to woo her. This one time, I ate the chocolate cake she had baked for her bookclub meeting and it didn't end well. I didn't eat chocolate for days"

"What did you do to fix it?"
"I wrote her a card with my crayons, telling her she is the best mom ever then she got emotional and lifted the no chocolate ban in the house"
Roman chuckled, finally seeing that Seth was more like him than Mick. Getting advice from his son seemed like the best thing to do at the moment. There was no way he could rush to Kevin and tell him that the past was back to haunt them. Again there was no way, he could tell a single soul about how his brother had murdered an innocent woman.
No way, that secret was his to keep and he would pretty much take it to his own grave.
"Ok time to sleep. You got school tomorrow"
"Since you and mom are fighting and I gave you some tips, is there a way I could maybe skip school tomorrow?"
"Nice try, kiddo. Sleep" He stood up from Seth's bed slowly covering him with the duvet and ruffling his hair.
"Is that a yesss?" Seth whined and Roman left the room shaking his head unbelievably.
The kid was growing a lot more faster than he had realized.
Gulping the air he needed, he sauntered down the hallway stopping outside his bedroom door. An angry Mikaella sure scared the shit out of him. He turned the door knob, noticing that the lights in the room were off and at the same time thanking God that she was still in their room and not in the guest room.
Getting under the covers, he stared at nothing in particular in the eerie darkness. God! He hoped that she wasn't mad anymore. Scooting to where she slept so soundly, his right hand lay on her waist while her back faced him. Burying his head in her hair, he smelled it loving the aroma of the new shampoo she recently bought. Was it strawberries or raspberries?

"I-I can pick Seth from school today,"he offered tightening his cuff links while watching her seated at her vanity table doing her makeup.
"You don't have to do that. I'll pick him up myself, Raquel's got everything handled and I think I'll get off work early today"
She was being difficult. Wooing her with small things as such wasn't going to work.
"But I insist"
Then silence engulfed the room.
"Fine. Four pm sharp and if you won't make it, James will pick him up like he always does"
God. Women were so difficult, he thought. A simple gesture from him and she couldn't as much as give him a glance. Didn't she know how much watching her applying nude lipstick to her lips enticed him. Her applying lotion to those inviting long legs seduced him. He had a feeling she was punishing him and God damn it, her plan worked. His throat bobbed, every tiny action arousing him.
"How? How long are going to torture me like this?" He asked watching her face in the vanity mirror.
"Till you learn a lesson"
Nearing her, he lay his hands on her shoulders,"Well I've learned my lesson, baby. I'm done being jealous"
Jealous. He was never jealous of Marcus to begin with ok maybe a little bit. Fear was his driving force. He feared Marcus and to what extent he would go just to avenge his wife.
"Words aren't enough to get out of this one. I need to see that you trust me completely"
"Fine I'll do anything. Anything"
"You could start by getting your ass to work"
Still giving him the cold shoulder, putting on his big boy pants he went to work prepared to woo her back come what may.
Work was exhausting as always. Hours and hours of signing documents, handling complaints, again signing documents, skipping lunch to meet with the shareholders and yet with everything done there was still another meeting with the foreign investors.
Roman sat there with a bunch of old geezer checking his watch now and then. Of all the days, this had to happen today. A meeting with men who spoke a language he didn't understand and the hired translator bailing at the last minute with an excuse of getting the flu. Thirty minutes later, a new translator entered the meeting enabling the one hour meeting to proceed.
Convincing the old geezers was tough, they took a further twenty minutes to determine whether the contract itself was legal and binding.
"It's a pleasure doing business with you," Roman concluded taking his phone from his pockets and switching it on.
Five missed calls from Mikaella, an SOS message from her also, three missed calls from Kev and the others from his parents. His heart beat rapidly warning him of something tragic.
Calling the first person, he stared breathless at his screen waiting for her to pick up,
"Mick. W-"
"It's Seth! R-Ro. I- I can't. I simply can't l-lose him," and the screeching noises followed with Mick's cry in the background,
"Bro" Kevin took the phone from Mikaella.
"Kevin. What's going on!"
"It's Seth. Your little man is missing, they haven't asked for ransom yet"
"What do you mean missing? Ransom? My son's been kidnapped?"

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

The Dao of Magic
Here I am, sitting on a mountain so far away from civilisation it might as well be the godforsaken arse of the world, about to ascend. Can't wait to leave this crapfest of a planet... Turns out that the higher ups decided that an unaffiliated rogue like me is too big of a risk to let run around free. Seems like this entire cultivation world is a late stage capitalist money making machine for the powers that be in the higher realms, and me stealing the good loot in front of their descendants and sect disciples noses finally pissed them off enough to take action. First, they sent all the sect masters and hidden dao protectors to off me - which failed, obviously. Heh, afterwards they simply bitch slapped me out of their universe though. That is interesting and all, but I just woke up in a valley watching some critters murder each other while trying not to freak out about how bad it smells here.Soo… where the fuck am I? Why is that deer fighting a feathery squirrel? Why am I teaching this baby rabbit saved from a cannibalistic mother how to kick beings in the face with the power of qi?Releases a couple of times a week!
