《Voices - Liam Dunbar》Chapter 3 - Fresh/man

"Mom I can't find her," a boy said, entering his house and locking the door behind him.
"Who are you?" Adela asked him. He didn't answer. Didn't even flinch. He walked over to the light switch for the outside light, flipping it off. "Mom?" He called again. He walked towards the stairs about to turn off the foyer light and paused. He looked over at Adela but didn't seem to notice her.
"Hello?" She said, looking back at him. When he looked back at the stairs she lost it. "Answer me!" She screamed. The boy gave no indication that he saw or heard her.
"I'm going to bed," he called, sounding uneasy. He flipped off the light and slowly walked up the stairs, Adela right behind him.
When he got too the second floor he walked towards what Adela decided must be his room. He stopped, looking right through her again, towards an open door.
"You really can't see me, can you?" She asked, not expecting a response. He turned towards his room, walking in and slamming the door. Adela tried to follow but instead she walked right through the wall. Yes, through the solid wall.
She looked at the guy. He was in bed, about to shut off his lamp when he looked down. There was some kind of reddish substance on it. He leaned over the bed and looked underneath.
"Oh, hey you," he said in a happy tone. "What are you doing under there?" He grabbed the lamp on his bedside table and leaned back over the bed, shining the light under. Adela got on her hands and knees to see what he was so friendly with.
It was a cat. And upon closer inspection she saw that it was covered in blood. So did the guy apparently, because he jumped off of his bed.
Adela heard screaming. Not like screaming on TV or yelling in anger, this was different. It was blood curdling. It sounded like someone was bludgeoning someone else to death. The guy also seemed to hear it. He ran to his door and flung it open, stepping out.
Adela saw a dark figure walking in the next hall. He was holding a bloody tomahawk. The guy gasped, practically jumping into his room and locking the door. The tomahawk came flying at it, burying its self in the door. The guy ran to his bathroom and slammed that door shut as well.
He was rummaging through drawers when Adela came through the wall. She was feeling a strange sense of dread come over her. She felt like she should help but she couldn't pick anything up. When she put her hand on the panicked guy's arm, it passes through.
She couldn't worry about that now though. She needed to get out of here. She heard the slow steps of the tomahawk man walking towards the bathroom door. A second later, the door knob started to twist. When the door didn't open, Adela sighed with relief. That is, until a deep, dark, inhuman voice spoke from the other side.
"Hello Sean. I just killed your family."
Adela looked over that the guy, Sean. He looked upset.
"Do you want to die like them?" The voice said again. "Begging for your life? Or do you want to fight? I'll give you some help. Wrap a towel around your fist, smash the mirror. Use one of the shards to defend yourself. Go ahead. I'm waiting."
Adela watched as Sean wrapped his hand in a towel. He looked at the mirror for a few seconds, debating.

"Are you ready Sean? Because here I come," the voice stated. Glass shattered, and the door flew open a second later. But Sean was already gone. Apparently, her would rather jump out of a window and run than fight.
However, Adela couldn't blame him. This man had killed his family. She looked back up to see the murderer. He was wearing all black. He held his tomahawk and he had a keyboard strapped to his left arm. When she finally looked at his face, Adela gasped. He didn't have a single hair on his head, and was very pale. But the really disturbing part was his mouth, or lack of one. It was just skin, no lips, no breaks, not even an indention. Nothing.
He walked over to the window, watching Sean run down the street. Then, everything went black.

Adela shot up in bed. She was sweating, and she felt like she couldn't breath. The dream was still fresh in her mind, like a vivid memory.
But it was just a dream. It had to be, right? Lying back down, Adela drifted off to sleep again.
What felt like seconds later, her alarm clock went off. She dragged herself out of bed to get ready. After showering, she slipped on a pair of skinny jeans, an army green top, Allison's old brown leather jacket, and riding boots. She added gold bangles, gold hoop earrings, and a small emerald necklace that Ally had given her on her thirteenth birthday.
A few hours of boring school later, Adela was at the lacrosse practice tryouts during her free period with Lydia and Malia.
"Who the hell is that?" Malia demanded.
"Who?" Adela was reading a book for language arts and hadn't really been watching.
Malia grabbed Adela's face and turned it towards the field. "Him," she said.
The guy playing goalie was catching every ball that anyone through. Nothing got past him.
"He's good. Jackson was better," Lydia stated.
Usually Adela would have given her a look for bringing up Jackson but right then she was to busy staring. As the very fit guy pulled off his helmet, she noticed that he was also very attractive.
"Nice Liam! You might be our first freshman captain!" Garret, a blond guy that Adela didn't really like stated.
Adela watched as Liam turned towards the bleachers. His blue eyes fell on her and she quickly looked down at her book. Great, hopefully he didn't see her staring.
•*•*•*•
Adela had math after her free period. She walked in, taking a seat in the front. Adela was smart and very good at math. She was rummaging threw her binder for her homework when someone walked in.
"You must be the new student," Mrs. Logan said. "Everyone, meet Liam. He's a... transfer. From Davenport Prep." Davenport was the snobby private school just outside of Beacon Hills. The two schools had a long standing lacrosse rivalry.
Adela looked up to see Liam standing at the front of the class.
"Please take a seat, Mr. Dunbar," the teacher told him. He examined the room and his eyes locked on Adela. He took the open seat right behind her.
After math, Adela was walking with Kira, Scott, and Stiles, discussing their latest problem. A triple homicide.
"An axe murderer?" Kira asked again.
"A family murdering axe murderer," Stiles corrected. Adela stiffened, thinking of her dream.
"I... already heard about it," Scott said.
Stiles whipped towards him. "Wait, what? You did? How?"
Scott got to his locker and turned to Stiles. "My mom called me. She know I would see it on the news."

"Perfect. Let's go," Stiles said, turning around.
"Whoa, whoa. We've got Econ in five minutes," Scott pointed out.
Stiles looked at him like he was nuts. "All right. Did you forget the part about the family murdering axe murderer?" Adela rolled her eyes.
"Did you forget that your dad is the sheriff?" Scott shot back. "They want us to stay out of it."
"Guys, there's a family murdering axe murderer and we're not going to do anything about it?" Stiles asked in disbelief.
"Maybe we should just let the adults handle it?" Kira said apologetically to Stiles.
"So you guys are telling me that you just want to stay here, in school, go to class?" Stiles asked. "Never heard anything so irresponsible in my life," he said walking off.
"See you at tryouts?" Scott asked, feeling bad.
Stiles flung his arms out in a motion that conveyed is annoyance. The bell rand and Adela said goodbye to Scott and Kira. Walking off, she couldn't help but wonder if her dream hadn't been just a dream. If just maybe, it actually happened. If just maybe, she had witnessed the whole crime.
•*•*•*•
After school, Malia, Kira, and Adela went to go watch the lacrosse tryouts. Adela wasn't really a sports fan but she wanted to support her friends. Also Stiles was her ride.
As the three girls sat down, Adela noticed Liam again. He was doing push-ups and didn't seem tired at all. She could see his abs through his shirt. When she realized she was staring, she went back to her math homework.
Malia sniffed, looking at Kira. "What's wrong with you?"
"Me? Nothing," Kira said. Adela turned towards her friends, raising her brow.
Malia gave Kira a look. "You reek of anxiety. It's distracting."
Adela looked back at the field, rolling her eyes. "I don't even have superhuman smelling powers and I can tell something's wrong. Spill it."
"Yeah, what's going on?" Malia asked, bluntly.
Kira sighed and started to speak really fast. "Scott and I sort of had this thing happen. But it wasn't much of a thing. And now I'm starting to think it never was anything... at all."
"Well, what do you want it to be?" Malia asked the Kitsune.
"More," Kira said, simply.
Adela looked out at the field full of sweaty teenage boys. She watched as Stiles lobbed a ball at the goalie, which he caught easily. Liam was next which peaked her interest. Adela wondered if he was just as good at everything else as he was at goalie. His piecing blue eyes were filled with excitement as he picked up the ball. She saw him shoot the lacrosse ball at the net. The goalie didn't even have a chance.
Next was Scott. He through the small, white ball at the goal but instead of going in, it hit the side pole.
"Nice, McCall!" Garret said, laughing.
"Hey, Garret?" Adela's tone was as sharp as her throwing knives. "Shut up."
The pompous blond's smile faded.
Liam continued to make every goal, meanwhile, Scott couldn't make one.
"Isn't the captain supposed to be one of the best players and the team?" Kira asked. "Or good?"
Adela groaned. "Yes. That is supposed to be how it works."
Coach told everyone to switch spots and Scott and Stiles got goalie. Garret was the first person in line to try and get past. He ran right for Scott, who promptly knocked the annoying blond down.
"Yeah! That's my boy!" Coach yelled.
"Yes!" Kira said in excitement.
"Finally," Adela added.
"Those two are like sons to me," Adela heard Coach say. She tried to stifle a laugh but Liam apparently heard her. He looked over and stared for a second before looking away again. Weird.
Anyway, the boys knocked down the next guy in line as well and Kira muttered more praise. Malia gave a small smile.
The same think happened with the next guy and Coach started yelling more praise, matching Kira's happiness.
"Yes! That's how you do it! That's how it's done!" He said. Scott and Stiles did a chest bump which caused Stiles to fall to the ground. Typical, Adela thought.
Next was Liam, and he look poised to kill. Coach blew his whistle and Liam bolted for the boys. He dodged Stiles, then Scott, shooting yet another ball into the net for a goal. The team erupted in cheers.
"Ugh," Kira groaned.
Malia made a face and Adela narrowed her eyes.
Suddenly, Malia stood up. "That was luck!" She yelled. "Do-over!"
"Sweetheart, there are no do-overs. This is practice," Coach waved her off.
"Malia, just sit down," Adela told her.
Completely disregarding her friend's request, Malia continued. "Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles."
"I'll take that action," Coach said pointing towards the were-coyote. "Hey, get back in there, Liam!"
So Liam tried again. Running for the goal, he managed to doges Stiles, but wasn't so lucky with Scott. The Alpha flipped him over and Adela heard the sickening sound of crunching bone.
She shot up. "Scott!" She screamed, running onto the field.
"Don't move! Don't touch him!" Coach yelled at everyone.
"I'm okay, Coach," Liam said, right before he yelled out in pain, falling down. Scott and Stiles caught him.
One of the first things Adela's uncle had taught her and Allison when they found out about hunters was first aid. She knew a lot about human anatomy.
"Move!" She demanded, pushing through the circle of players. "Damn it, you probably broke something! You are not okay."
"I think we better get him to the nurse," Stiles suggested. The four teens made their way to the school.
•*•*•*•
"We need to get him to the hospital," Adela said. "Now." They were in the locker room, deciding what to do. Scott had gone outside to talk to Kira.
"Alright, alright, we're going. Geez," Stiles rambled.
"I don't want you guys driving me!" Liam groaned.
"Stop whining," Stiles snapped.
Adela looked down at the blue eyed boy with sympathy. "It's going to be okay," was all she said. Fore some reason, he stared at her a little longer than he did anyone else.
•*•*•*•
When they finally made it to the hospital, the four approached the front desk. Just then, Melissa walked up. She was wearing blue scrubs and a furrowed brow. "Scott?" She asked.
"Uh... Hi mom," Scott said. A few minutes later, Liam was in a wheelchair manned by Melissa.
"Don't worry, Liam," she said. "We'll take good care of you." She wheeled him away, Adela in toe.
•*•*•*•
"I'm not leaving," Adela told the curly haired women.
Melissa groaned at the fifteen-year-old's stubbornness. "Adela, you need sleep."
"Just let me apologize? It'll only take a second," she begged.
Melissa sighed for what must have been the thousandth time in the last thirty minutes. "Fine, one second."
Adela flashed the woman a large smile. "Thank you!" She fast walked towards Liam's hospital room. She was about to enter when she heard him talking.
"It's broken, isn't it."
"It's definitely going to need an x-ray," his doctor and stepdad said.
"It's broken. And it's my fault."
"You wanna tell me what happened?"
Liam sighed. "I went up against two juniors. One of them is captain of the team."
"Remember what we always say? Play smart, not hard," Liam's stepdad said.
"Are you mad at me?" Liam asked the man.
"No, of course not. Your mom might be mad at me for getting you into lacrosse but maybe we should both wait for the x-ray before we panic. And trust me... I have more reason to panic than you," his stepdad chuckled. "It's not over yet. Wait for the x-ray."
Adela heard the man's steps coming towards the door and she backed up quickly. She didn't want to look like she had been eavesdropping. After the doctor/stepdad walked out, she knocked lightly on the door jam.
"Can I come in?" She asked. Liam looked confused but nodded. Adela walked into the room and stood by the bed. She looked at the boy's ankle and knew, with utmost certainty, that it was broken. She may not have know how she knew, but she knew.
"Pretty bad, huh?" Liam asked Adela, snapping her out of her rivalry.
"You'll be okay," she said, even though she knew exactly what the x-ray would show, she didn't want to upset him.
Liam hadn't taken his eyes off her for a second. "What's your name?"
She hesitated before speaking. Adela was a very private person but asking what her name didn't seem unreasonable. "It's Adela. Adela Argent."
He gave a small smile and mouthed her name to himself, as if committing it to memory. "Well thank you, Adela," he said.
The girl furrowed her brow. "For what? My friend injured you because my other friend bet ten dollars that your victory was just luck."
He laughed and shook his head. "I mean, thank you for caring. For checking on me."
Adela was about to say something, but Scott burst into the room. "We have to go. Now!"
"What? Why?" Adela asked her panicked friend.
"We just do!" Scott said, grabbing her wrist and pulling her towards the door. She gave Liam an apologetic look just before she was yanked out of the hospital room.
They were running for the elevator when Adela stopped suddenly. "Where are we going? What's going on? I will not moving until you explain."
"Sean Walcott. His house was filled with dead bodies hidden in a freezer. We have to find him!"
"A house filled with hidden dead bodies? Yep that's good enough for me," Adela said and started to run again.
They finally made it to the elevator but the doors were shutting. "Wait, hold the doors!" Scott yelled, but it didn't matter. They were to close to being shut for anyone to stop them. They heard screaming and bolted up the stairs to the hall. Sean had Melissa on the ground.
Adela stopped in her tracks. That was the exact guy from her dream. The only difference being that he was covered in blood and had a circular mouth filled with razor sharp fangs.
Scott wolfed up, howling and Sean responded with more howling, snapping Adela out of her trance. The boys charged at each other, ready to fight. Adela ran to help Melissa, and to see if she was hurt. There was a lot of blood.
As the boys fought, Adela asked the women the key question. "Who's blood is on you?"
All Melissa did was point towards the hospital room across from them. There was a man-- or what resembled a man-- lying dead, bloody, and half eaten on the floor. Adela heard a bang and looked over to see Scott being thrown into a wall. Sean was trying to escape.
"I'm alright," Melissa said, after Scott got up and examined her. "I'm alright."
"Are you sure?" Scott pressed.
"Yeah. Go get that son of a bitch." So Adela and Scott ran after him.
•*•*•*•
They were up the stairs in minutes. Scott following the scent and Adela following Scott. They saw a blood smear on the stairwell wall and heard horrible groans. Sean had taken someone.
The werewolf slammed the roof door open, the huntress hot on his heels.
Adela and Scott saw them immediately. They were on a higher part of the roof. Sean had Liam in a choke hold and God only knew what Sean was going to do with him.
"Get back!" He yelled at the two teens.
"You don't- you don't have to do this. Whatever it is, whatever you are, we can help you," Scott told him.
Adela's grip tightened on her two knives but she stayed silent.
"No, you can't!" Sean whimpered.
Scott took a deep breath. "Let me help you."
Sean was hyperventilating. "Wendigos don't need help. We need food!" He started to turn Liam around and Scott charged. Then, everything seemed to happen in slow motion.
Adela let her daggers fly, one hit Sean in the chest, the other, in the throat. This caused him to shove Liam over the side of the building. Scott jumped a good twenty feat onto the platform. He slammed Sean into the wall and ran for Liam, who was holding on to the edge of the very tall building. Adela threw another dagger, hitting Sean in the back but somehow he kept going.
The Wendigo jumped on Scott's back and pulled at his arms. Adela watched as he managed to wrestle Scott's arms off of Liam.
"I can't hold on!" Liam screamed. Scott was forced to bite Liam's arm so as not to drop him. Liam yelled out in pain as Scott's fangs sunk into his arm.
