《Gone Before Raine (Interracial-Bwwm)》Chapter 8

Raine spent the entire day in and out of consciousness. The pain in her foot was so extreme that she found it hard to move anymore. Every time she regained consciousness, she was hoping Daryl would be there, but he wasn't. From what she gathered she had spent an entire day in the cave, no signs of Cherry, Daryl or even George. Raine took in a deep breath, managing to stand up without putting too much pressure on her foot. She winced as she made her way to the mouth of the cave.
Raine peered out into the bright opening, looking both direction for any motion; there was none. Raine had no choice but to leave the cave. If she staid there something would surely get to her. She looked around her and found a thick branch. Raine thought it would be a good idea to use the branch as a cane to help her walk. Hesitantly she stepped into the forest again, keeping her ears open for any sounds of movement that wasn't her.
Somehow after walking for what seemed like eternity to her, Raine made it back to an area that seemed familiar to her.
"The camp!" She whispered to her self as she made her way to their camp site. It was the same as they had left it. She looked around for something she could to use to tend to her foot. Raine sat down on one of the logs, looking down at her wound. "Ew." She gags at the puncture wounds. Raine grabbed one of the shirts and cleaned the wound with some left over water from a water jug. At this point Raine was becoming numb to the pain. She grabbed another shirt, ripping into shreds to tie tightly around her injury.
Raine knew she had to try to find help as well. She couldn't just sit and do nothing. She stood up, grabbing her makeshift cane and made her way back through the trees to try to find the road. Raine swatted away bugs, pushed branches to the side, struggling to make her way through the thick forest.

"God just please let me get through this." She prays out loud, stopping to lean on a tree. Raine rested her head on the tree trunk, closing her eyes. She didn't know how much longer she would last.
"Ahhh!!!" Raine opened her eyes, letting out a gasp. It was Cherry! It sounded like she was in trouble. Raine limped as fast as she could to where she heard the scream coming from.
"Cherry?" She calls out, pushing the bushes out of her way so she could get through.
"Ahhh!!!" There the scream was again, Raine turned around in all directions, she didn't know where to go.
"Cherry?!" She yells out again, feeling completely useless.
"You can't help her." Raine jumps and turns to face the voice.
"Who are you?" Raine takes a step back, looking at the young male in front of her. Unlike her, he was pretty calm. He was clean, he didn't look like he spent a night in the forest trying to fight off an attacker. Raine glanced down to his hands, there was no blood. "Who are you?" Raine repeated again, raising up her makeshift cane to use as a weapon. He didn't look like their attacker, but she wanted to make sure she should defend herself.
"I'm Harry, I live near by. Now hurry let's go before he finds us." He holds his hand out for her. Raine bit her lips. She wasn't sure if she should trust him. "I won't hurt you." He tries to reassure her. Raine sighs and grabs hold of his hand. Harry smiles pushing his hair out of his eyes. "You'll be safe with me." He lifts her up into his arms since she could barely walk and started walking with her through the forests.
"Where are we going?" She asks looking behind him, just to make sure no one would pop out.
"Somewhere safe." Was all he told her as he rushed through the area. They way he walked around was as if he knew this place like the back of his hand. "Don't worry he knows not to come where I live."

Raine raised a brow, "Him? The guy who attacked me and my friends?" Harry nods, sucking his teeth.
"Yeah, he also lives in the area. He likes to hunt down people who come camping up here. He doesn't really like you city folks. He doesn't really bother us locals, that's why you're safe with me." Harry smiles again finally reaching his car.
"You have a car?!" Raine exclaimed. This was perfect, they would be able to go get help. Harry nods and helps her into the car. He makes sure she was buckled up and gets into the driver side.
"Yeah, why?" He asks starting up the car. He focuses his eyes onto the road, turning onto another dirt path.
"You can take me home! We could drive into town and get help for my friends." She tells him letting out a sigh of relief. This would all be over soon. Harry raises his brow, tapping on the stirring wheel. Raine watches him a little confused about his actions. Harry finally reaches his destination and parks the car. He sees Raine staring intently at his car keys. He frowns and takes them out of the ignition and shoves them into his pocket. "Will you please take me into town?" She asks hopeful that he would.
Harry chuckles opening the car door, "Of course," he gets out a scowl on his face as he walked around to the passenger side. He puts a smile on his face when he opens her door. "First I need to check out your foot, then we'll be on our way to town tomorrow morning." He tells her.
"No! It will be too late by then! We need to go now!" She tells him. Harry ignores her and shuts the door, carrying her up the steps to his cabin.
"You need to lower your voice." He tells her walking into the cabin, locking the door.
"What?" Raine looks at him confused as he sets her down onto the couch.
"It's my car and I say we leave tomorrow morning. It's a long drive into town. If you want me to drive I need to get my rest." He walks to a closet in the hallway and pulls out some blankets. "Are you hungry?" Harry grins walking to her. "I know this amazing recipe for this delicious chicken soup."
Raine stares in disbelief at him. Was he okay in the head?
"You know what, maybe I should go." Raine starts to get off the couch. Harry clenches his jaw, pushing her back on the couch.
"I just saved your life. You have to stay for dinner. Leaving would be a little disrespectful, don't you think?" Harry stands up, running a hand through his hair. "Mother was right, you city folks are very ungrateful." Harry tugs on a handful of his hair.
"Okay! Okay! I'll have dinner." Raine whispers looking up at him. Harry stops pacing, turning to look at her.
"Really?" He claps his hand as she nods her head yes. "Great! I'll start making the soup after I clean your foot. That fox trap must have did one number on you." He says walking away from her. Raine thought for a moment, how did he know it was a fox trap?
Harry came back with a first aid kit, "How did you know it was a fox trap?" Raine asked him, watching as he cleaned her wound with the disinfectant.
"You told me." Harry says with a shrug. He wrap her foot with the medicine wrap.
"No I didn't." Raine says. Harry closes the first aid kit.
"What does it matter anyway? The forest is full of those fox traps. We have to hunt our food somehow." He explains to her. "Now rest while I make dinner."
Raine watch him scurry off to the kitchen. 'I should have never trusted him.' Raine thought to herself.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Curiosity Killed The Imp
A/N: On hiatus (higher priority). The story is planned out but I need to do some rewriting for clarity and cohesiviness. Still very interested in the story though. Aeris is a place of endless conflict. Bloody evolution is the way forward, and the closed fist is the path given. Life is a luxury granted only to the strong. In a tiny corner, at the edge of a volcanic land, is born an imp. An imp no different from any other save one thing. An anomaly in its code. A blip in its creation. For unlike other imps, this one was born…curious. Book Cover by Betty Elgyn: https://www.deviantart.com/bettyelgyn
