She was the person that he wanted to fuss at him when he forget to eat lunch or when he wasn't listening to her talk. She was the person he wanted to build a fortune with for the rest of his life. She was the person he wanted to keep coming home to, the person that loves him and his flaws. The person that showed him what love is.

And what being in love felt like.

Matthias sucked his teeth "I'll kill him" He said seriously and she laughed even harder.

Matthias didn't care, call him what you want but he would fight anyone over Ailani and was proud of it.

It would also be on a respect thing with him as well. He and Jabari were very close friends. For him to play in his face and actually be in love with Ailani would make him feel betrayed.

He hated funny acting people especially since Matthias wasn't anyone you have to lie to.

"Period bubba, we were gonna jump him." She nodded while he reached behind her to grab her washcloth to wash her off.

"We knew he was the only one to get you outside tho. He really can't hold damn water, we had to keep him away from you the whole night" He chuckled, putting the soap on the rag and then washing off her chest.

Matthias almost slapped Jabari a few times since he was close to telling and ruining the surprise. It was like he wanted to tell her so badly.

Matthias just knew when Lani went over to check on him, he would break but surprisingly he didn't and went through with it.

"I love you" She softly smiled. He smiled back down at her "I love you more mama" He leaned down to peck her lips.

"It's so beautiful here." Ailani gushed as they walked through the resort they were staying at, holding hands. She was surprised when he told her they were taking a trip. She didn't even pack anything but of course Matthias being full of surprises, he packed for her.

Ailani felt like she needed to start paying attention more when they have talks like he did. She only told him once when they were getting to know each other that she wanted to come to Maui.

They never even went into details about it. She just said it and that was it.

"Wow, now how am I supposed to top this for your birthday?" She frowned while they walked down the entranceway to get to the beach. They walked down the stairs before stopping, he took his slides off while she took her slides off once they made it to the hot sand.

"Nah, it ain' a competition remember?" He laughed as they walked on the beach and the sun beamed onto them.

"You made it into a competition when you tried to compete wit' me first!" She laughed as they walked towards the many tents that are provided by the resort. She honestly didn't know how she was going to compete with an engagement and a trip to Hawaii but she had a few months to think about it.

"So what? We are in competition now?" He smirked asking, after paying to rent out a tent for two hours. She grabbed his hand and they followed behind them a man that was walking them towards their tent.

"You started it so yes" She laughed walking inside the luxury tent that had AC inside. They told the man thank you before flopping down on the lounge couch and Ailani started opening her beach bag with the snacks and drinks she packed for them. Along with the little games and Uno cards they could play when they aren't in the water.

She took a mental note to check for ingrown once they got back to Atlanta.

"I wanna keep my last name" She blurted, watching his face for any sign of him being mad. He furrowed his eyebrows a little "You want to hyphenate your name?" He asked to clarify what she was saying.

She nodded slowly and nervously clicked her acrylic nails together"It's all really left of my father's name and I jus' wanna keep it since me and my granny are the last Hughes. At least the ones we know." She explained the best way she could without sounding weird or selfish.

Ailani just honestly didn't want to give up her last name. That's one of the last pieces she has of him. She was one of the last bloodlines and she didn't want to end it off. She just didn't want Matthias to feel a way about it.

Matthias just chuckled "Baby you don't have to ask for my permission to do that. If that is what you want to do, you should do that. We're still gonna be married and you're still gonna be Mrs.Wood" He shrugged.

Ailani let out a small breath of relief "So you won't be mad? I jus' didn't want it to be an issue in the future ya know?"

He nodded "Yeah but dats some controlling type shit. I ain' on that." He said, she just smiled before leaning into peck his lips.

"November 16th," She said simply, he raised his eyebrow "That's the date you pick? You want to do it this year?" He asked.

"No, next year. I wanna be able to fully plan what we want. I never had this type of stuff in my mind to know what I want and how I want" She explained. Lani needed more than 9 months to plan for a wedding. This is going to be her first and only wedding so she wants it to be perfect.

"Bet, what colors?" He asked, giving her his full attention and causing a bigger smile to break out on her face. She was glad he wasn't going to put it all on her and actually help plan for their dream wedding.
