《My Vampire Ex》Don't Worry

I tried my hardest to ignore the screams coming from down stairs. A part of me wanted to stay but I knew it would do no good. Derek would want me to take part in his sick twisted games and I was low on tolerance for human blood, therefore irritable. What I told him earlier was true, I had planned on feeding on her but chickened out. I hated that I will eventually have to do that to Jessica. I'd hoped that the song I created last night to calm her wouldn't take all that much out of me, but it did. Humans are precious things and I didn't want to hurt her anymore than she already was. It's okay though, I can help from up here.

I finished stuffing the last of my things into a suit case. The only thing I have left to do is call the prince and hope that he will take us in. We would have been out of here days ago had it not taken so long to find his personal cell number. This was a deal ridden with treason and I couldn't have the king or the other prince of the United States finding out about it.

"Brandy, Brandy! Can I come in?" Olivia's voice pleaded outside my door. I froze. She couldn't see my things packed up, she'd tell Derek in an instant.

I sped out the door and closed it firmly behind me. "What's wrong Liv? Didn't Derek tell you to stay in your room for today?" She was so tiny, so precious. It was hard to imagine that she was more dangerous than anyone else in this house, including me. Oliva was dressed in a frilly black dress that looked big enough to fit a Barbie doll and white tights. Her shoulder length hair had been curled by one of the staff and pushed back with a matching black headband. Everyone who worked here adored her and it was easy to see why. She was the only one I will miss when we leave tonight. I would take her with me, but she was Derek's pride and joy and she loved him like a father, even if he had kidnapped her and turned her into a monster.

"Yeah but I keep hearing Jess screaming. Is she okay? What's happening Brandy?" Her big red eyes twinkled with curiosity.

I sighed, "she will be okay. Derek is just—" I paused. Do you tell a seven-year-old child about the torture her kind puts lesser beings through? She normally wasn't around to hear the screams of Derek's victims. "He's just playing with Jess. It's all pretend," I decided to go with.

She frowned, "I wanna play! How come no one plays pretend with me?" Her bottom lip stuck out in an adorable pout no creature could resist.

"I'll play with you in a moment, princess. Just let me get cleaned up." Derek strolled up the stairs, licking blood off his fingers like a fat man who had just finished off a bucket of wings. His t-shirt and jeans were soaking wet and he reeked of Jessica's scent.

I walked beside him into his room, "holy shit Derek. Is there any of her left?" If he killed her not only would he lose his payment from Jared Chavez but I would lose my way out of here.

Derek flashed me a smile that was not of a killer. It was of a boy who had just had the time of his life playing with a toy. A smile that chilled me to the bone. "I don't know. I fucked her up pretty badly. It was the most fun I've had in decades. I've got to go into work, will you look after her while I'm out?"

My eyes widened, "y-yeah. I'll make sure she's alright. How long will you be gone?" His job at the embassy was a blessing in disguise. I had been hoping for an opportunity to slip Jess out of the house would present itself and here it was.

Derek changed into a button-up black shirt and dark grey pants. "My guess is at least seven hours. Gina isn't happy that I was trying to take today off to spend with Jess. It's alright though, I did everything I wanted to and more. Jared asked for a broken girl and boy did I deliver. It'll only get worse too." He tossed his bloodied clothes in the basket I was standing next to and the scent hit me like a truck. It won't be long before my hunger completely consumes me.

"Well have a good day. I'll hold down the fort here."

I went to walk away but Derek sped in front of me. "Oh, and by the way, her and I have a bit of a wager. I know deep down that you enjoy helping mortals but try not to get tied up in this one. You'll only hurt her more."

I gulped. What could he have possibly bet her? Whatever. It didn't matter. We were one phone call away from freedom. "Don't worry, I won't get in the way of your plans." I lied.
