《My Vampire Ex》Betrayal at the House in Los Angeles

"Do you think we should tell your dad?" Zach asked as we walked back up the driveway. This was the first break we had taken from trying to find Jessica in three days. No amount of pain was making Jared talk and he left no lose ends, no clues, nothing.

"We can't. The last thing I heard him say was that if anything happened to her he wouldn't leave Tanner alive." As much as I wanted to find her, I couldn't do that to my brother.

"Then what do we do? Nothing's working."

I sighed, "honestly Zach, the only think left is to start considering giving into his demands." It was an exhaustive list and the only thing the video was made up of. But all of what Jared wanted could be summed up in one sentence: Zach and I gone and Tanner to stop pinning after Jessica and treat her like any other human. If it meant she would be safe I was willing to never see her again. That being said, Tanner could never stop having feelings for her. She was the only girl he has ever truly loved.

"What? No. You can't give up that easily, mate."

As we reached the front door I could hear faint female screams. Zach and I exchanged confused looks.

"Is that," Zach began.

"No. That's Kara." I finished.

I threw opened the door and sped toward the noise. In the kitchen Tanner had Kara pinned to the wall by her hair and his teeth buried in her neck. Kara's olive skin was getting more pale by the second and her heart rate was beginning to falter. "She helped him, Finn. This is her fault!" Tanner paused to say.

"I didn't want to. You have to believe me," Kara's eyes closed for a brief second, "I'm sorry."

They had been through a struggle, that's for sure. The kitchen was in shambles. Broken dishes and fallen pots and pans every where. Kara was cut up and bruised but Tanner had not a scratch on him. Had she really helped Jared? That wasn't like her at all.

"Wait. Tanner stop. What if she knows something? Don't kill her yet." I placed my hand on is shoulder and a growl erupted from somewhere deep down inside him.

He retracted his teeth and dropped her to the floor. "You're right. I was too hungry to think about that. I was just so mad when I found the phone."

"What phone?" Zach cut in.

Tanner pointed to the counter where a small outdated flip-phone sat. "It started buzzing in his pocket when I was down there. He said Kara gave it to him."

She sat slumped against the wall. Her chest barely moving. How would dad feel if he found out a girl he saved betrayed his family? I grabbed a kitchen knife and scraped it across my wrist. Her eyes went to it immediately. "Thank you," she whispered.

Kara reached for my wrist but I held it back, "not so fast. You only get this if you promise to tell me everything you know. No left out details."

She nodded slightly, "I promise." I turned my wrist down so the blood poured into her mouth.

"Australia." Zach said.

"What about it?" I turned to him, my eyebrows raised in confusion.

"The last call he received came from Australia." Zach was holding the flip phone, still thumbing through it as he spoke.

In a flash Tanner left the kitchen. I thought about going after him but he should be fine now that he's eaten. I talk a lot of shit about my brother but he's pretty smart when he put his mind to it. Kara let go of my wrist and wiped her mouth off with the back of her hand. "I don't know much. I was only there to give Jared the phone. I would untie one of his hands so he could make his calls. If I knew anything important I would tell you I swear."

"I'd hope so. Wait until my father hears about what you did to this family, the one who saved your life."

"No! You can't tell him! Please! Your father means everything to me!"

"Tell me what else you know then." I didn't like to prod but I know she had more to tell me. She was holding back something.

"I promised you I would tell you what I know and I did. Please, Mr. Finnigan." She stood up and looked at me with tears in her eyes.

I rolled my eyes, humans and their puppy dog looks. That only worked for certain people and Kara wasn't one of them. Not for me anyway, I wasn't buying it one bit. "You still hungry, Zach?"

Zach shut the phone and stood beside me, "I could eat."

Kara ran for the door but I was much faster. I blocked her only exit and Zach grabbed her my her arm. "Why would an innocent person run?" I questioned.

She trembled in Zach's grasp. "Promise me you won't kill me and I'll tell you the rest."

I shook my head and walked towards them slowly. "Your opportunity to make deals with me is over, little Kara." She was way shorter than Jess, I'd guess 4'8. I towered over her and that made my demeanor even more sinister. "I'm not going to risk turning you with my blood in your system so no, I won't kill you. But you'll wish you were dead."

"I know why you can't hear her thoughts anymore," Kara blurted.

I tilted my head at her, "why."

"His witch friend enchanted a bracelet. It's locked on her wrist and it blocks any kind of magic, even the kind she provides you."

Huh. I never thought to go to a witch for something like that. How awfully clever of him. "What else," I prodded.

She shook her head, "That's it." It's interesting how humans all have their tells when they are lying. Kara, for example, couldn't help but look to the right side.

"Fine," I turned my attention to Zach, "Take her to the sink. Maybe some water will jog her memory."
