《My Vampire Ex》Strange Alliances

My knuckles were dripping with blood. "Tell me where she is!" I screamed.

Jared was underneath me. His face was covered in his own blood but his smile never faltered.

"Do whatever you want to me, Finn. You won't find her. No one will." He shoved me off of him and stood up shakily. Tanner stood to the side, watching us carefully. I expected him to stop me when I came barreling upstairs and attacked his best friend in the middle of the main corridor but he just watched silently. I wanted to know what he was thinking but I didn't have time to worry about him at the moment. Rage pumped though my veins. I couldn't let him walk away. Not this time. Jared staggered toward the front door but I beat him to it.

"You ought to go watch the tape if you want to save your Pureblood." Jared mocked. His body was slumped and his eyes were barely open. I had fucked him up badly, but I wasn't done.

"It's your turn to see how it feels to be helpless," in one swift motion I took his head in my hands and twisted it. His neck snapped and I let his body fall to the floor.

I glanced to Tanner at the other side of the room. His expression was still unreadable. My chest heaved up and down. There was so much anger still burning inside of me but I needed to calm down. I still needed to check on Zach and I needed to brace myself for what was on that tape.

"Help me carry him down to the basement." Tanner finally spoke. He walked to Jared's body and lifted his legs.

I starred at him, bewildered. "You want to help me?"

"Don't think too much of it. I still hate you," he muttered. We lifted Jared up and walked him down to the basement. He would reanimate in a few hours. I wanted to rip his heart out and actually kill him but I knew I might need him to find Jessica. We set Jared down in a chair. Tanner walked to the intercom located on the left side of the room and pressed the button. "Kara, come down to the basement please," he spoke into it.

"I don't get it. Why are you helping me?" I prodded. This was way out of character for him and it was really freaking me out.

Tanner rolled his eyes at me, "just because I stick up for Jared doesn't mean I think everything he does is right. You and father may think I don't care about Jessica but I do. He didn't just take her from you you know. I don't know where she is either."

I frowned. He was right. I was so preoccupied with my rage and feelings that I hadn't taken his into account. "I'm sorry Tan," I murmured.

"It's alright. I'm used to you doing things without regard of how they effect me. Let's just find Jess so you can take her and not come back for another ten years." Ouch. That last comment stung more than usual. I've been a good business man but not a good brother. I needed to fix that.

Kara cleared her throat. She was standing just below the basement stairs. Her posture was more concave then usual and she stared at the ground. "You rang, sir?" If my senses weren't heightened I wouldn't have heard her speak. This wasn't her usual demeanor. Had our encounter frightened her? Or had Tanner done something when I left... 'Tanner's going to kill me isn't he? Five years of perfect service ruined all in one day.'

I nodded internally. She thought she was called down here because she was in trouble. That makes sense. "Kara, honey, you aren't in trouble." I reassured her. Tanner could have been mad at her but that didn't matter. As long as I was here she wasn't going to be punished. She stood up for Jess and tried her hardest to protect her. That was something I really appreciated.

Tanner nodded in agreement, "I just need your help. You're the only one of us that can touch vervain." He sped over to a shiny black wardrobe and fished keys out of pocket. Kara stepped closer to me. "I know I shouldn't be nosy but I need to know. I-is Jessica, okay?"

I bit my lip. That was a harder question than it seemed. She was away from Jared so yes, in a way she was okay. At the same time, he had hid her somewhere with Lord only knows who or what. In that case she was not okay. "She's missing, Kara," I finally decided to say.

Her brown eyes widened with shock. "Did she get away? Or did Jared..." She trailed off.

I nodded, "yeah. Jared."

Tanner pulled two buckets out of the wardrobe and set them in front of the chair Jared was propped up in. "Take the vervain covered ropes in these buckets and tie him to the chair like I taught you please." Tanner's voice seemed off, it was so monotone. Kara went right to work without any further questions.

"I need to check on Zach," I thought out loud. So much had gone on so fast I had kind of neglected him. Now that I thought about it, I just realized my father was no longer around either. He must have left after his argument with Tanner. That was one good thing in a mess of bad things. If father would have been here for all of this he would have killed Jared and maybe Tanner without a second thought. As smart as he was, he has a lot of trouble controlling his anger.

"I'm going to stay here with Kara. After she's done I'll be back up to watch the tape with you." Right. The tape. I had no idea what to expect from it. I just knew it couldn't be good.
